Switch to these. They are typically used for fish hook earrings but they work absolutely fine with regular studs.
I have really small and plump earlobes so normal backs don't tend to stay on, or they are way too tight. The safety backs work so much better.
On the plus side, you probably already have some lying around your jewelry box if you've ever bought dangly earrings. You can just borrow them and use them on the studs.
I usually wear pretty small earrings when I ride, but I've worn some big honkin' ones too. Most important thing for me is just to make sure I'm using a rubber stopper on the back; the metal ones don't cut it and I've lost a few nice earrings because of it.
It's not particularly comfortable, but I'm too lazy to take them out and put them back in.
