Don't go dual. It creates a very unnecessarily close gaming experience.

Now, if you really want to do this right grab one of these cases from ParadiseArcadeShop.com. By the looks of it, there's more than enough room to toss an encased Raspberry Pi into the housing too.

From there, you can get any number of Sanwa parts to pop in place.

  • Buttons
  • Stick
  • USB PCB (that RetroPie will instantly recognize)

If you want to go a completely alternate route ... the 8Bitdo N30 stick is wireless (bluetooth), pairs with RetroPie easily, and allows for Sanwa part upgrades.

Again, unless you're confined to an arcade cabinet, using a dual stick really sucks. You're bumping shoulders with your friend all day in a room that has so much space for activities.

Also, don't be intimidated by the wiring. It's all plug and play. No electrical or soldering experience needed at all.

You can go as cheap as this or as expensive as this

An in-between may be this or this (larger, comes with plexi and has custom artwork capability) since you could swap the parts out with your sanwa parts pretty easily.

Another option would be this if you want the same as the F300 but with bluetooth but it'd require some cable splicing as it only has four 2pin connectors while Sanwa uses 5pin for the joystick.

The N30 Arcade stick from 8Bitdo is $60 and are also well regarded. You could swap out the buttons/stick, or borrow the wireless guts. https://www.amazon.com/8Bitdo-Arcade-Stick-Nintendo-Switch-Android/dp/B073ZNXFL6/ref=sr_1_7?keywords=switch+arcade+joystick&qid=1565885603&s=gateway&sr=8-7

Not sure what the pricing would be in your area but give the 8bitdo N30 Arcade Stick a look. If you're looking for nostalgia then this might tick the right boxes for you.

I can't say much to actually taking it apart, but the pro controller just uses bluetooth, Seems a bit expensive to buy one to tear down as I can't imagine you'll have much use for the rumble and gyros, which is what I assume adds a lot of the cost to it's pricetag.

For ease of conversion though, Why not use the guts in one of these?:

Cost less than a pro controller anyway.

Honestly, I would just double down on a dedicated fight stick if you're going to play a fighting game. I don't have one capable with the Switch but my friends and I all got Skullgirls back in the day and I also got a fight stick just for it. Can't go back to a controller for fighting games as I've even used it for SC6 recently. 8bitdo's NES themed one is a literal hardware clone at least on the outside of the one I use but has Switch support and I think it's cheaper. You can even replace the joystick gate and buttons with real arcade hardware if you really want assuming the insides are the same.

If you want a standard controller, not sure. Best bet I can give you is to get one of those shell swaps that change the dedicated buttons to a DPad if you're willing. I thought it was absolutely worth it, but it involves disassembly.

Another to consider (edit, it's basically an upmarked M300 with bluetooth):

I did a full Sanwa mod on it, wasn't too bad. I think you should be able to get a JLF and buttons for around $40.

Works on PC, switch, and Android and the wireless works pretty well.

I don't have it myself, but if you wanted a solution you could buy, something like this might be worth looking at.

8bitdo have made several, such as this one.

There's also THIS THING that releases later this month. I've been holding out for a good fight stick solution as well. Can't play SF with the controllers...

They have an arcade stick coming out soon:

Far cheaper and easier to obtain than the Hori Real Arcade Pro for Switch. They say it's mod-friendly and compatible with Sanwa parts if that's your thing.

Mayflash F300

Mayflash F500

Also 8bitdo apparently has a fight stick that works on Android too.

I'd go with the Mayflash sticks though since I see people actually buy those and post them here (usually with Sanwa parts swapped in on Reddit though lol).
