Andrew J. Robinson, who played Garak on Deep Space Nine wrote a book called A Stitch in Time, that adds some more back story to his character and explores what happened to him after the series ended. Despite the lame title it's a pretty fun read if you're a DS9 fan.

Andrew Robinson loved playing Garak so much, he wrote a novel to give the character more backstory. I'm sure they could get him if they wanted to. He could probably give them some story advice, too.

The amazon link, [DS9: A Stich in Time] (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000FC0UXU/ref=dp-kindle-redirect?_encoding=UTF8&btkr=1), one of my favorite Star Trek books!

The Star Trek Lit Reading Order Flow Chart is a great place to start. (link also available on our sidebar)

Basically, you'll want to start with A Stitch In Time and move on from there...

Enjoy your journey!

Check out A Stitch in Time, written by Garak himself -- or rather, Andrew Robinson.

If you like Garak (and personally I think "especially the lies" is one of the best lines of the series) you should read A Stitch in Time by the actor that plays Garak, Andrew Robinson.

As for your question there are a lot of stories Garak has told about why he was exiled, and none of them are 100% true.

From Memory Alpha:

>While suffering from the degradation of his cranial implant, he gave three versions of the reason for his exile to Doctor Julian Bashir:

>1. He first claimed he was a Gul in the Cardassian Mechanized Infantry and was exiled for killing several Cardassians, including his first officer, a man named Elim, as well as the daughter of a prominent military official, who were on board a transport going from Bajor to space station Terok Nor, when he destroyed it. Garak thought he was in fact killing members of the Bajoran Resistance who were planning to sabotage Terok Nor.

>2. He then changed his story to say that as he and his assistant Elim were interrogating a group of Bajoran children he felt pity for them and let them go instead of turning them over to be executed. He was exiled when Elim turned him in to the authorities.

>3. Garak also said that he was exiled after being framed by his best friend Elim with evidence that a member of the Obsidian Order was allowing Bajoran prisoners to escape.

>Dr. Bashir later discovered from Enabran Tain that "Elim" was actually Garak's first name, indicating that none of these explanations were entirely true.

In the book he gives a fourth account of why he was exiled. He was having an affair with a high-ranking Gul and Tain told Garak to end it immediately, but he didn't. When he went to visit the Gul's wife again the Gul caught him and Garak killed him.

So really no one truly knows why he was exiled, I suspect the fourth reason is the closest one to the truth though, if only because it's so different from the other three.

> I kid, but how could you have missed Garak?

> There's just not enough of him! I want more

Sadly not read by him as an audiobook (such a missed oppurtunity...!) but, the actor did write it.. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000FC0UXU

Also, when I backed the DS9 documentary on Kickstarter (not out yet), look at what I snagged 2 of? One will be getting framed, as I'm sure they will never be produced again.

It's actually a DS9 novel that stars Garak! No joke! ;)

A Stitch in Time. It's out of print, but there is a Kindle edition.
