sorry to be "that guy" - but actually, the freesync version of the 34" acer is the XR341CK and it's 75hz (with a fury X he would have the freesync version).

the gsync version is the X34. it's a few hundred bucks extra and 100hz.

THAT SAID, because of the adaptive sync technologies many users claim they cannot differentiate between these monitors and 144hz, so i'm totally splitting hairs on you. both monitors are really fucking nice and really fucking expensive, so your overall point is still valid

u/discum · 10 pointsr/gadgets

You want https://www.amazon.com/Acer-Predator-UltraWide-Widescreen-X34/dp/B016GNX4SE. 1440p Ultrawide @ 100Hz with GSync. It's pretty much top of the line atm, though I think there is a 38 inch version too.

u/lechechico · 9 pointsr/Monitors

How much would you like to spend?

You are US based correct?

Is there a preference in screen type (IPS vs TN vs 'best-of-both' VA/AHVA)?

What kind of games do you play? Shooters vs RPG vs Explore?

Basically 27" is standard 1440p fare, ~30-34 start to become widescreen 3440x1440 (IMO, a great monitor but pricey)

A safe, and good bet is the Dell S2716DG that you will not regret.

Acer 34inch Predator IPS panel is hands down my favorite and I recommend it. Acer Predator 34-inch Curved UltraWide QHD (3440 x 1440) NVIDIA G-Sync Widescreen Display (X34 bmiphz) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B016GNX4SE/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_4bJSCbJ5JPPWH

It comes very well calibrated out of the box, almost like those Apple cinema displays of the past. Because it’s curved you will experience a bit of backlight bleed on a total black screen but I never notice it otherwise and it doesn’t distort the colors.

u/jim2point0 · 8 pointsr/ultrawidemasterrace

Any of the 34" 100hz ultrawide panels would meet that description. They are all 3440x1440 I believe.

Asus ROG PG348Q

Acer X34

Samsung CF791 (this is a VA quantum dot panel though, not IPS)

Just a few examples. There's probably more of them.

If you truly have no budget. May I recommend a g-sync 21:9? This is a [beast of a monitor] (https://www.amazon.com/Acer-Predator-UltraWide-Widescreen-X34/dp/B016GNX4SE/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1469540543&sr=8-2&keywords=Acer+g-sync+21%3A9)

21:9 gives you the most immersive gaming experience with a larger FOV that makes traditional 16:9 feel cramped in comparison. Later in the year there are more ultrawides in development with even higher refresh rates like native 100hz-200hz thanks to DisplayPort 1.3/1.4. But that acer I suggested will be plenty fast.

u/Elrabin · 4 pointsr/pcmasterrace

Acer and Asus make the only ones i'm aware of.

both are wallet-bleedingly expensive

EDIT: They're 100hz, not 144hz

My mistake.

You'd have to go lower than 3440x1440 to get over 100hz.

I had a 29" 2560x1080 display and any bigger has very poor pixel density. A 34" 2560x1080 would be, at least to my eyes, very unpleasant to look at.

u/Pyronees · 4 pointsr/Monitors

You're going into the very questionable part of monitors right now. All those monitors all use panels made by AUO and are all "IPS like technology" and not true IPS. AHVA is what it's commonly called. These monitors are the AOC AGON AG271QG, Acer Predator XB271HU, ViewSonic XG2703-GS, and the Asus RoG Swift PG279Q. They typically range in price from 500 to 800 USD new depending on sales. The Acer Predator has been found at Costco twice in the past year on sale for $500-$600 USD and sometimes less depending on the Costco location.

You can find specs here http://www.displayspecifications.com/en/comparison/ffbdef8b

Make sure to do your research before buying any of them. They're known to have some quality issues and it's often referred to as a lottery. Make sure to buy from a retailer like Amazon where you can easily return them or exchange for another if you encounter issues. I recommend searching this reddit for reviews, pcmonitors.info, and checking out overclock.net. You'll find plenty of information on those websites and see peoples experience. I personally tried buying the Viewsonic once and had some bad blb in the top right and bottom left corner that was a yellowish/orange color. I returned it.

If you're not liking any of these, then there is the Dell Gaming S2716DG which is a TN panel. It's known to have good color, but it has some sleep issues and color banding. Only around $500 USD and escapes the gaming aesthetic if it's not your thing. Samsung is also expected to be releasing Quantum Dot 1440p g-sync monitor sometime in the future, but I don't know much about that.

Response to edit: Acer does have some g-sync curved monitors, but they're not 16:9 aspect ratio. There's the Acer x34 which only goes up to 100Hz when OC'd.

I realized my monitor is about to give in (seriously, everything I own needs replacing. I just spent half my savings to have my PC fixed).

And a monitor is priority over headphones considering my line of work focuses on visuals rather than audio. On the minute chance that I win, I'm interested in the Acer Predator. A whole lot more expensive (at 1244$) than my original request but I'm really just tossing this out here. And it ships to the Philippines.

I do doubt I'll win, so I want to ask too... what are stocks? I am a clueless gal who barely considers herself an adult. I know I could look it up but I'd rather hear about it from someone who deals with it and (going by your generosity) has been successful with it.

Seriously though, man, generous giveaway. I'm sure you'll make someone very happy.

u/victorywei · 3 pointsr/ultrawidemasterrace

$1400? For this X34? Or is there a different one?

u/TaedusPrime · 3 pointsr/buildapc

Since budget isn't a big issue here there isn't much to change unless you want some opinions on another case or something. The nzxt s340 elite or phanteks evolv atx tempered glass are more updated cases and would look slot better built.

You don't need a 1000w pay but meh, it'll last you for this or any other foreseeable build lol.

Other the the case ideas, looks amazing.

Edit: now that I see it. Consider a 34 inch ultrawide gsync option. Gives you slot of screen real estate but without 3 monitors and will give you a much better gaming experience with that 1080ti.

I use this and it's pretty much the best purchase I've made in a while.

It’s the Acer Predator X34

u/Aztechnology · 3 pointsr/nvidia

I'm not sure why given all the available information you think it doesn't increase the cost. But sure

http://www.geforce.com/hardware/technology/g-sync/diy

Nvidia was selling these at $200 +S&H. We can pretty easily extrapolate this to the increased cost of Gsync monitors.

In addition we can easily extrapolate from the cost of identical models that do or don't have G-sync.

Freesync: http://www.amazon.com/Acer-Curved-34-inch-UltraWide-Display/dp/B0111MRT90

Gsync: http://www.amazon.com/Acer-Predator-UltraWide-Widescreen-X34/dp/B016GNX4SE

Part of this cost is also reflective of market cost, but the difference margin on most monitors that are the same model aside from the type of sync is around $200-300 dollars. Which would imply the module cost in these circumstances.

u/LBGW_experiment · 3 pointsr/ultrawidemasterrace

Well, you have a few options. Depending on your price range, you can go with 2560x1080 which come in 25" (don't bother), 29" (sweet spot for ppi, same as 24"/25" 16:9 monitors), 34", or 35" (specifically the z35 for g-sync or xz35 for freesync). Benefit of 2560x1080 is being able to generally saturate the max refresh rate of your monitor, given the gpu you have and are going to buy. Only downside I can think of is with making such a long-term purchase as a monitor, you're "only" getting 1080p, but I don't really see that as an issue as others might. Also, most of these monitors only go up to 75hz, only the very high end cards reach any higher, and those are usually either g-sync for the acer x34 which goes to 100hz @ 1440p or the acer (x)z35 which goes to I think 144hz @ 1080p.

There are also 3440x1440 monitors and those usually only come in 34". I can't think of any other sizes, someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Also, do you want curved or not? I don't have an ultrawide but I've been researching them for a couple years now and I think it comes down to the size of the monitor. I think 25" and 29" ultrawides are fine for being flat, since they're only so wide but once you get into 34" territory, it would be such a large screen that it is beneficial to have the curve, which is pretty much what the market really offers: no curved 25" or 29" and most, if not all, 34" are curved. The curve helps keep the same distance from each edge of the screen to your eyes the same. These do come at a higher price, though.

Prices for each respective size

u/italian125 · 3 pointsr/nvidia

I mean if you have the means to do so I would suggest an x34 Predator. It's an ultra wide monitor which is incredibly immersive and the 1070 is enough to run it. Once you go 21:9, you'll never go back to 16:9.

u/OniiChanStopNotThere · 2 pointsr/buildapc

While we're on the topic, does anyone know what the fair price range would be for a 21:9 ultrawide 1440p, 144hz, ideally 1 ms GTG input lag monitor be? Bonus points for IPS. $700? $1000? Does this kind of thing exist

This monitor

looks gorgeous but it's only 60 Hz.

I guess technology isn't there yet? I know the display port can only transfer so much data and I think ultrawides can't have enough refresh rate to support the number of pixels being pushed through.

u/TransientBananaBread · 2 pointsr/buildapc

Sorry, I should have checked that it was an ultrawide. You can still get a better monitor though.

The Acer Predator X34 would be a better purchase since it has GSync and is 100 Hz if you overclock it. This ASUS monitor runs 100 Hz out of the box, but is a little more expensive.

u/TH3xR34P3R · 2 pointsr/pcmasterrace

Might want to rehost the build on a more public site as the link has expired.

edit: and yea I am proud of my setup myself for getting it to this point after many years of slowly getting the parts and what not and the next piece to arrive for me will be my 1TB ssd so I can finally replace my platter drive with it for the games, then I have no clue other than saving up for one of these to replace my TV in my setup as my primary.

Yes, you can have a 40" 4K and need to move your head to look all over the screen, or a 30" and have a bunch of things out of your vision that you need to shift your focus over to look at.

Monitors are all personal preference. I have a 29" Ultrawide and I sometimes miss things on the sides of the screens.. specifically the minimap and health panel in HotS. I sit 2' away for reference.

Very surprised Blizzard even supported 21:9 in HotS, considering their past, and current history, regarding 21:9 monitors. (aka "they're cheating".. even in a PvE game like D3)

If you want extremely fast response times, you get a 16:9 TN panel. If you want great FoV and solid colors, you get a 21:9 IPS panel. Gaming 21:9 monitors are quite expensive though.. even ASUS' new 240Hz 16:9 monitor is under half the price of the X34 or ASUS' equivelent.

For me personally, I'll never go back to 16:9. It's a completely inferior aspect ratio.. as it was back before it very sadly took over 16:10.

u/Zeag · 2 pointsr/Monitors

As you said, it's very unlikely that the 680 will push 100+ fps in recent and upcoming titles; this being said, you don't need rock-solid 144fps to enjoy the benefits of 144hz ;)

Do you use your PC a lot outside of gaming (such as for photo / movie editing)? If so there might be other incentives to upgrade to a 1440p display or even a 4K display. Personal rule of thumb: 1080p for 24" and below. 27 inches = 1440p (1080p+AA is kinda ok). Above = 4K (1440p+AA at 30" is fine as well)

It also depends on your budget... If you're planning on getting another GTX *80-something or equivalent as your next GPU down the line, you probably won't have trouble running these resolutions, but even a GTX 970 will start wobbling at 1440p.

If you want ultimate futureproofing, sell both kidneys and get a acer x34.

Hope that helps!

It's possible to have Gsync and other inputs but a monitor manufacturer would have to put a second PCB in for those other inputs. There is at least one monitor that does this but it's not really feasible for everyone else to do.

Here's an example: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B016GNX4SE/ref=psdc_1292115011_t1_B0111MRT90

u/KILLSBITCHES · 2 pointsr/pcmasterrace

I had the opportunity to try it and I didn't seem to have an issue with the resolution but I can see some people seeing it as an issue given its size. I have a panel similar to that and it does leave smears very easily. They wipe off with glass cleaner solution.

If you want a higher resolution display and don't mind sacrificing some refresh rate (60hz OC: 100Hz) you can look at this one. Which I have not tried but seems to at least have better resolution if that will be a problem for you.

Sure are! Just paired them with the S8 subwoofer - the bass was good before but now it's insane.

The monitor is Acer Predator X34 - pricey but I feel I've got my money's worth considering how much time I spend in front of it, plus 100Hz and 3440x1440 w/ G-sync can't be beat! Games are incredibly immersive now and the aspect encourages me to watch a lot more film, can't recommend it highly enough.

u/xRehab · 2 pointsr/pcmasterrace

If you can get your hands on one, the Predator x35 is probably the sexiest thing on the market right now. 200hz, HDR, 1440p (head rumors a while back of a 1600p version) and Gsync.

If you're tighter for cash, the x34 is 100hz, no-HDR, but can be grabbed for ~$800 at the end of the summers if you have a student email address to link their promotions to.

LG and Samsung both have some Freesync ultras as well for a bit cheaper, ~$600 I think but I didn't look too much into them. If you're going ultrawide or upgrading monitor, all I can say is go all the way to 1440p or don't waste your time, and really try to go 21:9 if you can because you'll never go back.

It's a nice investment if you're into 1440p TN 144hz panels, but there are other options, Acer Predator XB271HU for slightly higher price, your get a IPS panel (trust me, the difference between a TN and IPS is insane, and input lag really doesn't matter between 1-8ms), this panel goes over 165 hz if you slightly overclock it (and Acer supports it), but standart 144hz is rule for that Acer Monitor, I'm planning to purchase this monitor in a few months, or heck even go nuts to buy the Predator X34 or this other XR341CK, the X34 is G-Sync and the other XR34 is FreeSync.

If you're intrested in a 21:9 aspect ratio gaming monitor, there's the new acer x34. It's a 34" IPS 3440×1440 available with gsync(~100hz) and freesync(~75hz) models. Asus have their version coming out in march i believe, but they both use the same LG panel. oh yeah... ridiculously expensive($1200USD / $1700CAD)

I don't think benq have a gaming IPS monitor out yet, but they should get something soon.

All these options are top of the line by the way. So there could be cheaper options, and there'll definitely be cheaper options down the road.

Oh yeah and IPS have something called the "IPS lottery" - trend of people RMA-ing monitors over and over until they get a good one. These monitors seem to have common problems of "back light bleed"(backlight leaking light in the corners) and "ips glow" (a colour hue shift during dark or black sceens). Infact the x34 has been so bad that amazon stopped selling them. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B016GNX4SE Same with the ASUS MG279Q... http://www.amazon.com/MG279Q-2560x1440-DisplayPort-Ergonomic-FreeSync/dp/B00ZOO348C/

I would recommend against using a TV for PC gaming, since the input lag is generally quite awful.

In my opinion, 1440p 144hz IPS and Gsync is the best right now for gaming and general purpose use, but if you want a larger screen you could get a 34" 4k monitor (although this will only be 60hz) or an ultrawide 3440x1440 monitor at 100hz like this one (note: these are expensive).

Ultrawide 1440 100hz OR Ultrawide 1080 144hz?

So I'm building a no limits top tier gaming pc soon, and I'm trying to decide on an ultrawide monitor. There is no such thing as ultrawide 1440 144hz, so should I go for the higher refresh rate or the higher resolution?

I'm not settled on any particular models yet, but it would be something like these two:

Acer Predator Z35 144hz

Acer Predator 34-inch 100hz (oc)

If you havent seen this monitor yet, i think you should take a look at it. The build is good, I dont see anything wrong with it but I dont think its a good idea to mix ram. I dont know if that would cause problems but if I were you I wouldnt risk it. Evga has had really big priblems with their cards like the vrm overheatkng and even some blowing up. I have an asus 1080 myself and I love it, its pretty quiet and can oc to 2.1 ghz easily. I would also say that you shouldnt get a keyboard like that with a budget like this. Check this keyboard out. Imo brown switches are the best.

Whilst this is true, the resolution of this monitor is 3440x1440. Standard QHD resolution is 2560x1440. I do not know of a single monitor on the market that has WUHD resolution with gsync. The monitor that u/throwywayradeon linked is the closest thing that you are going to find at the current time. There is also the acer predator x34 but that is almost identical to the asus one.

Predator X34

Asus ROG PG348Q

Acer XB271HU

Asus ROG SWIFT PG279Q

Dell S2716DG

I recommended these monitors because you said budget is irrelevant so I figured I would show you the higher end. I have the XB271HU and I recommend it very much it's great.

going from what i assume is a 1080p 24 inch tn 120hz to 34inch UW QHD IPS 60 hz is so different. you have different aspect ratios to contend with, ultrawide is a big change, and going from 120 to 60 is a big change. Really hard to compare them. But I'd suggest keeping your current aspect ratio and getting a 27inch 1440p 144hz ips, Unless you're really sold on ultrawide then I can't offer to many alternatives as I don't know many.

u/ZeusThunder369 · 1 pointr/buildapc

I know you didn't ask about this, but have you considered a single M2 drive (like Samsung 950) instead of 2x SSDs in RAID? Faster, less cables, and I think the price is about the same.

Are you absolutely set on a 4k monitor? Have you considered a 1440p Ultrawide? I have no buyer's remorse on this Acer Predator. This is pretty much the top of the line one, there are cheaper options for 21:9 out there.

Why do you want to overclock your RAM? Just do a Google search on this and you'll see it makes practically no difference at all. Unless you have some specific reason you need to do this, I wouldn't

On the 1080s, definitely wait for multiple reviews before pulling the trigger. Do not buy them on the first day (unless reviews are already out). It's entirely possible you might want to get a cheaper 980TI instead.

u/Plutonium_man · 1 pointr/pcgaming

Yeah you'll have to get a new gpu every 3 years at least to keep up with 144 fps. To give you an idea, ultrawide becomes as difficult as 144hz to run when you get to 100 hz ultrawide.

I actually don't know anything about how ultrawide monitors perform other than their high cost. I looked the other day and a freesync IPS was like 1k :/

They probably do sell TN panels. Typically when a new monitor format comes out it releases as TN first because it's the easier panel to make

Here's the 1300 g-sync version (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B016GNX4SE/ref=cm_sw_r_other_awd_Cm1kxbQZTJQ4F) and 1000 freesync version (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0111MRT90/ref=cm_sw_r_other_awd_Il1kxbNM59SZN) of the same monitor.

Honestly I think a grand is a bit much for a monitor... So maybe it's not actually the best idea after all. But if you can afford it that's great. You can get a freesync 144hz 1440p IPS for like 600 dollars, so the g-sync would be about 800 dollars. As of now, my fury x plays most of the newest games around 90-100 fps at the highest settings. So my 144hz monitor is useful because I get to see those higher framerates, but I only hit 144 in older games or simple games.

u/waffle-monster · 1 pointr/watercooling

I would probably buy it today if it was still $1050. It's $1223 on amazon right now.

u/meddlingmages · 1 pointr/ultrawidemasterrace

u/stupid_chris · 1 pointr/buildapcforme

u/Vsuede · 1 pointr/pcmasterrace

In my humble opinion the current "meta" for monitors are the 2k 144hz IPS panels. Running 980ti SLI you should have no problem reaching those god tier framerates on such a panel.

I don't think they have quite hit that point on Ultra-wide yet but this is pretty fucking dope if you want to drop serious cash on a monitor. 100hz OC is nice, but I don't have much experience with monitor OC so for me this is probably king at the moment.

It is personal preference though, some people prefer 4k to higher framerates. Personally I do a lot of competitive online gaming so I like trading a bit of resolution for better refresh rates.

u/Arctic_Wolf_lol · 1 pointr/fountainpens

Aight, you don't want a 4K monitor unless you have a really solid GPU setup. I'm talking at least a 980Ti (or AMD equivalent) or ideally 1080/1070 if you're looking to sit anywhere near 60fps in current games, let alone anything released in the next couple years. If you have this already, there's quite a few options to choose from. Dell makes a excellent monitors, and ASUS has a 4K version of the ROG Swift (which I've heard mixed reviews about). If you don't have the GPU horsepower I mentioned, or don't mind sacrificing a few pixles for more FPS, I highly recommend checking out these:

https://www.amazon.com/Acer-Predator-UltraWide-Widescreen-X34/dp/B016GNX4SE

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824009869&cm_re=acer_predator-_-24-009-869-_-Product

The ACER is gorgeous, and can be overclocked to up to 100MHz, the ROG can run it natively, but has been known to have QC issues. Both are excellent monitors, and will have GSync if you're sporting an NVIDIA card (There are freesync equivalents, but as I have Nvidia cards myself, I'm not up to date on those)

--------------

Pros of a high quality monitor:

  • You probably use it more than a pen
  • If you do team games such as Overwatch, LoL, CoD, Counterstrike, etc... you will have a noticeable advantage. (This can be anything from simply more frames in FPS games to actually being able to see more of the LoL map due to the aspect ratio)
  • A monitor is more easily secured (Kensington lock or something similar)

Cons of a high quality monitor:

  • You'll have to bring it back and forth between college and home if you want to fully enjoy it
  • Someone is more likely to want to steal it over a fountain pen
  • Need to be careful about dorm room parties, or kinda be an asshole to your roommate's friends when they inevitably do stupid shit that almost breaks your monitor

    ----------------------------

Pros of a high quality pen:

  • Can last for years, often decades, or perhaps even a century
  • It can be a really neat piece of memorabilia because you (should) have it for so long.
  • Should (in theory) give an improved writing experience over cheap-o stuff (though to what extent varies)
  • Great conversation starter! You'll likely have people coming up and asking "Hey man, is that an ink pen?" (and you can handle it from there, I ask what kind of pens they use, if their pens don't use ink, but I'm also annoyed by that phrasing of the 'is it a fountain pen' question)

Cons of a high end pen

  • You might not really use it (or want to use it, or be able to use it when you want to)
  • Strangers/Passerby's may think you as snobbish or hipster, depending on your appearance
  • A lot easier to steal than a monitor (though less likely to be stolen, imo)
  • more easily lost than a monitor (like, have you ever misplaced your monitor? Set it down a sec and then it's gone? No? I did once... my boss wasn't happy)
