I'd recommend the IPS version of the monitor you're looking at. I just got one recently and I love it. You can save some bucks with a refurbished version too.

u/yust · 21 pointsr/pcmasterrace

Comes in just under 700 (before taxes).

u/chemiicaLL · 20 pointsr/buildapc

This is what I'm using, and I couldn't be happier. It's the same Predator however it has the IPS panel. I'm a fan of the IPS colors for the extra $100, and I paid more than $700 a few years ago. Still worth.

If you're looking to save $100, you can get the same monitor you mentioned (TN Predator) at Amazon cheaper than Newegg.

u/spicedpumpkins · 11 pointsr/buildapcsales

OK let's use your example. Hang on, this is going to be a long read.

THE BUILD THINKING PROCESS: Have realistic goals for your budget and build the highest resolution to fps ratio you can get for the money with a target of 60fps minimum for at least 75% of the time.

When I make a build I almost always include an adaptive sync monitor (freesync/gsync) in the budget because of exactly your scenario.

When enabled, the average person CANNOT distinguish in the middle of a fight between 130 and 144fps. Now you're going to get that super APM Korean here who will claim they can but on average most people cannot consistently distinguish above even 120hz....Linus tech tips and a bunch of other respected tech youtubers have fleshed this out ad nauseum.

With this in mind, adaptive sync alone can often mitigate loss of frames vs what you actually notice when playing, thus slightly future proofing your needs to upgrade immediately on a new hardware cycle.

When a friend, family member or colleague asks for a pc build the following questions come into play:

  1. What specific games or genre of games will you be playing?

  2. I explain to them what adaptive sync is and usually Show them this video. I also tell them I try to target them at 60fps on average as most people CAN notice below 60fps. At my house I have 1080p 75hz, 1440p 144hz/165hz and Ultrawide 3440x1440p at 120hz set ups for me and my own family and explaining to them these are $1100+, $2000+ and $3500+ builds and let them play with them. I also have built budget builds sub $600 but explain that there won't be an adaptive sync monitor in the build.

  3. Then I ask what's their top dollar budget before tax using roughly $1k, $2k and $3.5k increments and tell them what resolution and refresh rate they are buying into so they have upfront expectations of the best case scenario for frames. I also clearly explain that there will be variable fps depending on what is going on in the game and how graphics intensive it is.

In addition, I also explain the difference in most games between med, high and ultra settings and what things you could turn off to increase frames and not notice much difference in overall gameplay (e.g. Turn off Hairworks, Reduce shadows appropriately, at higher resolutions there is little need for higher AA, etc.)

NOW LET'S TALK ABOUT UPGRADE PATH:

According to most recent Steam Hardware Survey the vast majority of gamers are rocking 1050ti/1060 level of cards. These are 1080p medium to high settings cards that can deliver 30-120+ fps depending on game.

I tell them there is ZERO need to upgrade even when new hardware comes out IF you are happy with the current FPS of games you are playing. Seriously. Who gives a shit if all they want to play are esports titles like DOTA, LOL, Overwatch, Rocket League, Fortnite, etc and are getting 60fps+ and frankly typically 100+fps in those titles with those GPUs. Why bother upgrading a 3-5 year old system at all if your gaming experience is good and you are pleased with the current results.

When to upgrade then? When a game comes out that you know you want to play outperforms your current setup and you are willing to pay to meet the performance bar. Depending on title, this MOST of the time doesn't even require anything more than a GPU upgrade if they already have a solid CPU and RAM config.

I'll give you the perfect example. I had a colleague who was playing mostly esports titles with a 1060ti rocking a i5 4690k with 16GBs of DDR3 but now wanted to start playing more graphic intensive games such as Witcher 3 and Monster Hunter World PC at 60fps+ and he thought he had to buy an entire new computer and came to me. He currently has a 144hz 1080p IPS gsync monitor. I said no way man. Don't throw out the baby with the bath water. His rig specific for gaming is still quite playable in most titles. I asked him if he was happy to keep his current playing resolution (1080p gsync) or if MIGHT consider going 1440p in the near future. He said he was sure he wanted to stay at 1080p for now. I suggested he just upgrade to a 2060 for $350ish bucks. He ended up getting a 2060 for a little over $350 and is extremely happy with this upgrade path. Here he thought he was going to have to spend $1500+ and was perfectly happy with the $350 upgrade.

    THE BUILD ITSELF:

I take my sweet ass time and tell them it will take at least a week before I'm done building when all parts arrive (even though I can knock out most builds in a few hours) so I have no rush on myself as I build PC's for a relaxing hobby and not a job. Some people build legos or models. I like building PC's.

Long read. I hope it helps save you some money and make a more informed PC building decision.

Definitely, the 27" 1440p 144hz would be a better.

/u/Yuzle whats your budget? IF it's lower, I'd go for the Dell S2719DGF cause it's on sale for a killer deal right now. If you have a bigger budget, an IPS panel like the Acer Predator would really make teh colors pop in games like Witcher

u/loveYuri · 8 pointsr/Monitors

Acer XB271HU is on sale on Amazon for $599.99. Cheapest its been on Amazon. I got mine 2 days ago and had no dead pixel or BLB. Was very happy with the purchase. On Amazon, it said this model was available May 8,2017 vs the Asus one which was in 2015.

u/lwwz · 6 pointsr/buildapc

This is my favorite: https://www.amazon.com/Acer-Predator-XB271HU-bmiprz-2560x1440/dp/B06ZXZ3QBD

Reasonably priced IPS and it will clock up to 165Hz at 1440p. It's the sweet spot for me between larger format and still great for FPS gaming.

u/LoneKrafayis · 6 pointsr/techsupport

You made the right choice. None of the games you play have any ray tracing features, so you are not missing any visual quality. Your card will do a good job of playing games for years.

Ray tracing is something that might take hold in the game development industry, but games that make good use of it are 3+ years away. (Current games are just adding a few effects.) When all-ray-traced games come out, the 2080 Ti will be old and slow at ray tracing.

Nvidia has tried other new technologies that have failed. At one point, they tried to get the industry to move from triangles to quadrangles. The people who bought the quadrangle hardware never had many games to play, and the tech was abandoned.

Edit: Perhaps you should not get a GTX1080 Ti, but instead get a 144 Hz monitor for your GTX 970. I would also suggest 1440p resolution and IPS color technology as monitor features.

I’d go for a 27 in 1440p (2560x1440) and 144hz. If you can find a good deal I’d definitely go for an IPS, otherwise I’d do a VA only bc I REALLY hate TN panels.

I’ll edit this with a some links to stuff

This is personally what I’d buy in your position if I wanted a new monitor rather than used or refurb.

Acer Predator XB271HU Abmiprz WQHD 2560 x 1440 (2K) 1ms 144Hz (Overclock Refresh Rate 165 Hz) 350 cd/m2 G-sync Gaming Monitor, HDMI, DisplayPort, USB3.0 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=24-011-082

This is a TN panel. The g syncs at this range go for $500-600. The IPS ones are about $700 for a new one.

You can find refurb IPS ones for about $550 though.

Scratch that. I’d get this one. It’s an IPS for $600. You can get used for $75 less also from amazon.

This same one is also on acer recertified for $494. I bought my monitor from there with same specs except freesync for $330. No dead pixels and slight backlight bleed. The customer support is questionable and not the most responsive but so far the product works perfectly.

I did a ton of monitor research so feel free to PM me if you have any questions

u/Matt_has_Soul · 5 pointsr/buildapcsales

If you don't want to wait for an Ebay/Rakuten or other % off code, then I would just give it a month or so and maybe this monitor will have a one day sale. That's what this one seems to do on Amazon according to camelcamelcamel

u/wadss · 4 pointsr/buildapcsales
u/Telicopter · 4 pointsr/Monitors

With the power of your GPU, I would go 1440p, but you can find a much better bundle and quality at around $500, maybe a little more.
For $600, I found this:
https://www.amazon.com/Acer-Predator-XB271HU-bmiprz-2560x1440/dp/B06ZXZ3QBD
1440p, 144Hz (overclockable to 165 Hz), G-Sync, IPS, 4ms, 3 year warranty for $600. You could probably get it cheaper on Black Friday or something as well. And, if you don’t want this one, there are lots of other choices.

u/mnguyen84 · 4 pointsr/nvidia

+1 more for this IPS monitor. Make sure you get the XB271HU bmiprz and not the Abmiprz panel which is a TN panel. The XB271HU bmiprz is same panel as the Asus PG279Q but you can find about $100 cheaper than the Asus.

Should I go 1440p IPS @ 60Hz, 1440p TN @ 144Hz, or just spend the $100 extra bucks for 1440p IPS @ 144Hz?

There are no UHD 144hz monitors on the market yet.

If you mean 1440p, the best on the market is the Asus PG279q at $750 dollars. There is a similar Acer one which is probably your best bet at under the $700 mark: https://www.amazon.com/Acer-Predator-XB271HU-bmiprz-2560x1440/dp/B06ZXZ3QBD/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1522370771&sr=8-3&keywords=acer+1440p+144hz

Acer Predator XB1 (27" 1440p up to 165hz).

Make sure it is model "XB271HU bmiprz" because that's the IPS panel (better color).

I really like it, it looks amazing as well. The only gripe about I have about is that the speakers sound really shitty, but hey its a monitor and most people have their own speakers anyway. Both me and my friend got one of these and neither of us had any dead pixels on the first purchase too.

u/Cremater · 2 pointsr/hoggit

I have a 27" Acer Predator. Great monitor, I wanted G-Sync, 144hz refresh rate, and a decent response time. It's also IPS! It's on sale at Amazon for 544; normally 700$ and is probably the best deal going unless budget is limitless. Link Do you have a graphics card that can handle it?

u/RippyZ · 2 pointsr/Monitors
u/Vineless · 2 pointsr/Monitors

The games that you listed will be a struggle to hit at 1440p, even with your 1080. That’s what gsync is for, so it will make it look more smooth when not at full 144hz.

If you don't mind my recommendation, I say definitely upgrade your MOBO.... The one suggested is a great idea, and what I just picked up off Amazon for the low!
Check this link to see what MOBO is best recommended for that processor.

As for the RAM - I grabbed the TridentZ RGB DDR4-3200 as well. I recommend them. If you don't care for the RGB frills, you can get them cheaper I believe.

Also: I definitely recommend the Samsung 960 Pro 500gb, if you can swing it (since you're under budget). You will LOVE the insane difference in speed!!!
https://www.samsung.com/us/computing/memory-storage/solid-state-drives/ssd-960-pro-m-2-512gb-mz-v6p512bw/

When I get my new monitor I think the Crysis series will be one of my first playthroughs. I'm making a pretty big upgrade in monitor tech, from one of these if I recall correctly to one of these (though screw that rising price).

I'm pretty hyped in the color fidelity, refresh rate and GSync in particular, and the 1440p is just going to hammer all that home.

Crysis is gonna be super enjoyable, I think. From start to finish.

Not much point in a high refresh rate 4k monitor right now. You are not going to have enough GPU horsepower to drive that many pixels in AAA titles. In competitive games it is more beneficial to have high refresh rate and lower resolution for a smoother playing experience, professional gamers are currently switching to 240hz 1080p monitors.

Currently the best gaming experience (within reason) can be had on a 144hz+ 1440p IPS G-Sync monitor paired with a GTX 1080Ti. Your options there are as follows:

Viewsonic XG2703

Asus PG279q

Acer XB271HU

AOC AG271QG

If there are anymore out there I'm sure someone will chime in, but those are all that I know of for now.

I know it's less than ideal, but I'm really fervent about getting IPS. Given how rare good deals are, is this palatable?

Is the Acer Predator XB271HU the 1440p, IPS, G-SYNC monitor to get when Black Friday deals come around? I want one with the least amount of QC issues. I know the AOC and ASUS versions use the same panel and I just want to get one that will be the least hassle.

It should work fine, unless you're gaming on both of them. Which monitor are you thinking? FYI there was a thread I saw earlier with the Acer predator on IPS 1440p, 144hz. Not sure if you're in the market for this high end though. There are cheaper options like the Nixeus Edg V2 or TN panels.

Great deal.

Though I would shell out the extra $60 and get it from Amazon. Newegg requires 8 dead pixels for a return/replacement. Amazon is extremely lenient with returning anything and will gladly refund or replace your monitor for just 1 dead pixel:

Okay so here's the deal. You could essentially go for 4K 60 hz, or go for 2k 144hz. Unless you want to spend way more for a 4k 144hz monitor. But that's very pricey. From $700 to $1400, but the best ones definitely at the higher end. That's completely out of budget. At the same time, 1080p 60hz is terrible for us because we don't see any benefit from our 2080ti.

So we either want to go for frame rate at 2k, or 4k at a much lower frame rate of 60hz.

You will find most people choose frames. You will definitely see a huge difference. Your games will be 100hz and up at 1440p. You also want a gsync monitor for your Nvidia card.

So in your budget for best overall monitor I would choose:

If you're interested in a trade, I'm looking for the monitor you have and currently have a Acer Predator XB271HU (IPS version) which is 27", IPS, Gsync, 1440p, 144hz. Perfect condition and still have original box.

I'm in Nebraska (53 confirmed trades on hardwareswap and can provide 100% ebay feedback). If this was local, I'd do something like, trade monitor for monitor and I'd throw on like $100 cash for the cost difference. If you're interested in still traded I'd do a straight trade and pay the shiping for yours and my monitors, which is probably going to be about $50 for each because of their size and insurance.

Feel free to PM me if interested.

I'm thinking about buying two Acer Predator BMIPRZ 144hz monitors. I plan on playing video games on only one of these monitors, the other monitor will be used for other tasks.

Is this stupid? I.e., is it stupid to blow 1300$ on two 144hz monitors and only play games on one?

If so, what 60hz, 4k, 27" IPS panel should I pair with the Acer? And will I have any refresh rate or stuttering issues plugging both of these monitors into my 1080ti?

Thanks.

What's the difference between this and this? Is the predator really $150 more just for g-sync? If this supports g-sync then what would be the difference between this and the predator's real g-sync?

I'm sooo close to picking one of these up, but the IPS lottery has me nervous. From what I've gathered returning/exchanging monitors with Newegg can be a huge hassle... Any advice? Looking at their policy I see this:

Television and Monitor Dead Pixels:

  • Televisions or Monitors with 8 dead pixels or more can be returned for a replacement within 30 days from the purchase date.

8 or more?!? For $550 I'd want to return this thing if it had 1 dead pixel...

edit - Amazon has this for $599... Wondering if the extra $50 is worth ease of returning/exchanging via Amazon if I need to

I recommend the Acer Predator XB271HU. If it's within your budget, it's a very solid gaming panel. It has an IPS display, very color accurate out of the box, overclockable up to 165hz, VESA compatible, G-Sync technology, and very tilt and swivel friendly. I've been using mine so far with no issues.

u/Jungianshadow · 1 pointr/Monitors

This is a competing monitor with similar specs.

https://www.amazon.com/Acer-Predator-XB271HU-bmiprz-2560x1440/dp/B06ZXZ3QBD/ref=mp_s_a_1_6?crid=GMZQNCS4SGZT&keywords=acer+27+inch+gaming+monitor+144hz&qid=1556546650&s=gateway&sprefix=acer+27&sr=8-6

If you have the time check other brands with similar specs, because gsync can sometimes unnecessarily bump up the price.

u/herogerik · 1 pointr/pcgaming

I just recently bought the Acer Predator XB271hu and after turning it on for the first time I did not notice any difference between the "feel" on it and the 60hz monitor I have sitting next to it that I've had for 5 years. It was very underwhelming at first, especially for the money I had just invested into it.

I suddenly remembered reading a post over at r/pcmasterrace for people to double check their monitor settings both on the monitor itself, and then also in the OS. Once I went into the OSD for the Predator, sure enough, it came out of the box set to 60hz! As soon as I told it to switch to 144hz it was like my eyes were opened and I almost shed a tear at how much better everything looked and felt!

I've also recently had 2 friends who just got 144hz monitors due to me regaling them about about the benefits for both gaming and general use. (one got the Dell S2716DG and the other got the Asus PG279Q) They both had the same experience as well. It's not really an issue, seeing as it's just a few button presses to correct it, just annoying when manufacturers don't send their monitors off at their ideal refresh rate.

G-sync for gaming I take it? Then your much better off with a higher Hz monitor. 120/144/165/etc. is a huge improvement over 60Hz over G-sync. I don't believe there are any monitors our there with the specs you're asking about.

I just got this Acer Predator and I have no complaints. Looks good, has g sync, good hz with OC and right around your budget. I've only had it for a month but it's been solid so far. Luck of the draw and got no dead pixels. Has a slight glow maybe around the edge but not too noticeable. COD looks great on it.

Its on the max side of your budget but check amazon for payment options. Certain prime products offer a payment option. They charge you the total cost over 5 months. That's what I did for this monitor and they charge me $100 a month till its paid up.

With this list, you have an extra $500 on gear and peripherals.

I found this 1440p 144hz monitor from ASUS on Amazon. This monitor has your want of 1440p and 144hz. It is also IPS, so you will have good color accuracy and viewing angles for your movies. It also has HDR support according to reviews.

u/hitlersrighttesticle · 1 pointr/buildapc

The truth is that it will be adequate in most situations, but AAA gaming will leave you craving for a better GPU. However, the thing to keep in mind is that monitors tend to outlast computers and definitely GPU's, so you will be future proofing yourself.

By the way, you mean the XB271HU right? Another option for you is the Aorus monitor now that it's back in stock. The build quality on that monitor is better but it won't be as good for FPS gaming, so given that fact that that's your primary purpose I would say stick the with the Predator.

u/coololly · 1 pointr/buildapc

Neither, save up an extra $100 and get an IPS one:

u/rarrieg11 · 1 pointr/PCBuilds

Keep in mind these are just my amazon searches, so there definitely could be better actual monitors on different websites or better prices elsewhere.

This is the one I have. It’s the cheapest high refresh rate g-sync monitor that I know of. It’s good but the colors aren’t the greatest. It’s still an insane improvement over my $120 Costco 1080p 60hz monitor.

This is basically the best 1440p monitor currently available. It’s got g-sync, an IPS panel, and i think an audio pass through. But, it’s expensive and kind of flashy which may mess up your setup if you care about that.

This is a nice 4K IPS monitor. It’s only 60hz but even with a 1080ti you won’t get above 60fps in many games at 4K with higher settings. Again, it’s expensive.

This is a 4K 144hz monitor with g-sync. You could probably find a way to get a 1080ti, a better monitor, and better cpu for about half the price so...

u/AlexBrownRealtor · 1 pointr/buildapc

I would say, if you could spend the money, get this

Acer Predator XB271HU bmiprz 27" WQHD (2560x1440) NVIDIA G-SYNC IPS Monitor, (Display Port & HDMI Port, 144Hz) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B06ZXZ3QBD/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_z6CACbRHJZAGJ

I purchased this monitor and have been very happy. 27" for me is plenty for gaming. Honestly 32" seems great on paper, but using it tends to make me have to look too far to corners of the screen to be efficient when playing. It's a IPS panel, which will have better colors than a TN. With the IPS you get 4ms response. But let's be honest, noticing the difference between 1ms and 4ms is nearly impossible, and shouldn't matter even to most competitive professional gamers. 1440p is nice, especially for the specs your PC has. It's not that much more hard on your PC to run at 1440p over 1080p, and it's NOTICEABLY more crisp, and allows more screen real estate. (Running at 4k is a different story, that is a difference in FPS drop). This monitor also has G-Sync which is amazing for gaming as well. Super smooth. Also, forget curved. It's just a marketing tool. And even if it wasnt, it's not going to add to your experience at 27"-32" imho

If this is not something you want, I'd say definitely go for 1440p if you intend to have a 27"+ screen. And opt for IPS panels and sacrifice a few ms response. G-Sync is a very nice plus, but may add an extra $70-100 to the monitor. (Not the most important feature, but a great touch, especially if you're not getting the 100+ frames tour desire in some games).

Good luck bud

Also, I'm using the same Asus as you for my secondary.

u/zakabog · 1 pointr/pcmasterrace

Do you want IPS? If so I highly recommend the Acer Predator 27", I have one myself and it's an incredible display. If you don't want IPS then go for the Dell that u/Chiz_9 suggested. Either way, definitely go with GSync, most games aren't going to get a stable 144fps @ 1440p.

u/dies1rae · 1 pointr/pcgaming

u/Sheilamainbattletank · 1 pointr/Paladins

Which monitor are you thinking? The Dell S2719DGF is on an insane deal right now. On the other hand, if you want to prioritize colors, go with the new Nixeus Edg V2. It came out in March, sold out right away, but they just got new stock. Wouldn't be surprised if it also sold out. It will still be good for fast paced games like FPS, but just not as fast as the Dell because the Dell is a TN panel and the Nixeus is IPS. But it will have better colors.

Or if you have a higher budget, the {Acer Predator](https://www.amazon.com/Acer-Predator-XB271HU-bmiprz-2560x1440/dp/B06ZXZ3QBD/ref=sr_1_3?&qid=1558559178&s=electronics&sr=1-3) is a killer IPS monitor

I can vouch for the EleTab Dual Monitor Mount for $100

There is This one, of the same brand, that i'm using because I have deeper desk now.

For what it's worth, i've had monitor mounts (both dual and triple) from Mount-It! and VIVO and neither are comparable to the convience and quality of the EleTab. I have two Acer Predator XB27HU 27" 1440p/165hz panels up and it holds beautifully. That mount has tabs in the back along with detachable VESA mounts that allow for extremely convientant install. I put both fairly heavy and bulky monitors up by myself with zero issue. The longest part was screwing the screws in. Whole process took 5 minutes.

As an aside, if you are looking for a mount for a standalone microphone, I can't recommend the RHODE arm enough.

There are definitely cheaper options, like Neewer and AmazonBasics, which are better than nothin, but I wouldn't recommend them. They'll hold whatever you want. But they don't hold well, they sag, they ripped up my old desk with the clamp, and the clamp was cheap and never completely secured. They also lack the QOL features I mentioned on top of pretty poor performance. They hold things, they just don't do it well. Build Quality is super important and for anyone who hasn't put that value into their stands, i'd recommend it because you would never go back to the $25 USD stands and arms.

For anyone who asks, why spend $200~ between your monitor mount and your microphone boom arm? Because it's holding $1300 worth of tech that I can't trust to a $20 stand.

I never cheap out on anything that holds something i'd hate to see fall. My chair, my desk, my monitor stand and my microphone arm.

u/Illuison · 1 pointr/buildapc

Okay, he's got pretty good hardware. If it was my computer, I'd be looking at 1440p 144Hz G-SYNC monitors. 4k and 1080p monitors are worth considering, I guess, but I think 1440p is where it's at for that GPU

The brand isn't terribly important, as long as the specifications are good. Whether or not curved is better is subjective, but most people like curved monitors. Monitors with IPS panels will have better colors, but non-IPS displays are fine

And if he's going to want to buy a third party stand or wall mount, you need a monitor that's VESA-compatiable. Most of the nice monitors are

On top of that, some guys put effort into making their desk look nice and having all their stuff match. Have a look at his desk and try to get a monitor that looks good with his keyboard/mouse/tower

I would say that in terms of league-specific gameplay, I didn't feel too much of a change (slight upgrade, nothing much more), but the monitor has been an absolute wonder for use in pretty much everything else. A lot of other games like MMOs feel nice just to have more room on my screen for quest tracker/other widgets that don't clutter with my skill icons on the hud. I also didn't have 2 monitors before and I didn't think it'd make much of a difference compared to 1 but I really can't go back after having 2; the 1440p is also extremely nice for some movie or video watching too. If you're after the monitor for mostly a change in league, I would say it isn't worth the cost of a 1440p, but especially if you are upgrading from 1 monitor to 2, for use with pretty much anything else you might do on your computer, it's a humongous upgrade.

I just could not risk the color and other issues that are reputed with the, admittedly cheaper, Dell TN monitor. I’d stretch for this as a monitor is the least upgraded piece of most kits.

u/mightyUSwarlord · 1 pointr/bapcsalescanada

I don't know about VA, but I think 144 hz IPS would beat a 144hz TN in picture quality and the difference for gaming would be marginal at best with a higher response time but identical refresh rates. I don't think anything below 5ms response time is noticeable, so a monitor like this acer is what you describe. I might hold out for one like that personally since I like to keep my monitors for 5 years+, and TN isn't new technology. Current ones are going on about 9 years...

Edit: cleaned up that link since it upset the mod bot. That price on that acer monitor is the lowest it's been on amazon, and it's the same at Best Buy. Might have to pick that up instead.

I definitely have my pc hooked up to my monitor's usb hub, and use it to connect my kb+m.

are you trying to have the monitor connected to two devices simultaneously, and have the monitor be smart enough to send the kb+m signals to whatever device is being displayed? or would you be happy with having one cable (say usb c) that connects the hub/monitor to the computer, and just swapping that over?

EDIT: after looking at your monitor on Amazon and LG, it seems to me like those ports don't transfer data, and instead are meant to just be powered ports.

So my monitor (https://www.amazon.com/Acer-Predator-XB271HU-bmiprz-2560x1440/dp/B06ZXZ3QBD/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1540511212&sr=1-1&keywords=acer+predator+xb271hu) actually has a cable that has to be connected to the computer, so that the kb+m are eventually connected to the pc. Do you have any cables like that? or is the display cable the only cable from your monitor to pc?

EDIT(2): okay, I found this page in the manual:

https://imgur.com/n33iaef

which implies that usb data can be sent over the usb c cable. so feasibly if you plug the kb+m into the monitor, and plug the usb-c cable into whichever computer you are using, it should send data to that computer. You will still need to swap the usb-c cable whenever you want to change computers, but hopefully that helps.

I'd recommend the VG270U or Px277 for 400 when they get back in stock. https://www.amazon.com/Acer-Predator-XB271HU-bmiprz-2560x1440/dp/B06ZXZ3QBD?ref_=fsclp_pl_dp_1 That's 620 dollars 144hz 1440P AND is GSYNC. In otherwords without gsync it'd 100-200 dollars less than the Aorus, it's also faster response time.

Back in October 2015, I had bought the second iteration of Acer XB270HU with a great discount on Amazon, something like 599€

I was also coming from 1080p Ultra with a 980 SC;

  • the size of the monitor takes time to get used to, 27" is really big for your eyes once you are sitting in front

  • the 144hz refresh rate gave me a few graphical and performance issues with the earlier Nvidia drivers, and basically I settled on running it at 120hz for the first year or so, now works flawlessy; once you try the extreme fluidity, you will notice even in games like The Witcher 3, a lot if you take a comparison side by side

  • the density of 2560x1440p on 27" is a bit low compared to, say, a macbook retina 13"; but it's still very sharp

  • performance wise, I'm using it with a GTX 1080 FE, everything always ultra, I get, in The Witcher 3 with mods for example, 78-100fps; or 120-140fps in Titanfall 2

I dont think they sell it anymore though, if you want the Acer model there is the XB271HU now

Not really according to the specifications site, the clocks are only slightly higher in the 809$ one, which is nowhere near the difference that would justify the 120$ difference between the two.

Unless someone thinks otherwise, go for the less expensive ones.

Now, we all forgot to include a monitor, tell me what kind of a monitor do you want ?

I personally recommend 1440p 144Hz, 24 or 27 inches.

You must have G-Sync so I have to warn you that your monitor will cost a lot, from 300-700$.

https://www.amazon.com/Acer-Predator-XB271HU-bmiprz-2560x1440/dp/B06ZXZ3QBD/ref=sr_1_2?tag=amazongs-20&s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1519831088&sr=1-2&keywords=Acer%2BPredator%2BXB271HU&th=1

This seems to be the best monitor with those specifications, but it is a whooping 600$.

I'd suggesting looking for monitors on your own because it really is your preference, but here's some tips.

You must have G-Sync because you will be buying a GTX 1080 Ti, the bad news is that G-Sync monitors cost a lot but we can't do anything about that.

IPS > TN screens, you can definitely buy a TN monitor which will always be cheaper but if you have the money, buy IPS.

You don't really need 144Hz but GTX 1080 Ti demolishes every game in performance so getting anything below 144Hz would seem like a waste.

Good luck with your build, building a PC is very fun and please don't be scared that you'll accidentally destroy anything, browse around, ask questions, not only will you gain experience but you'll save up money and you'll have fun.

It looks like if I want a 27" IPS 1440p 144hz Gsync monitor, the Acer Predator is the way to go. The only reservation I have is that it has that protruding bump out the back of it, while the more expensive Asus ROG Swift is a lot flatter on the back. Anyone happen to have a Predator and can speak to if that bump is actually annoying? I can't really tell from the videos I've seen.

It was an Acer Predator, similar to this one.

It's hard to judge on Amazon's page there. The XB271HU BMIPRZ is IPS. The 4 ms response time in the tile on Amazon's page suggests it's that. But the description is for the XB271HU AMIPRZ, which is TN.

There is also this listing for the BMIPRZ.

I wonder which one people are actually getting when buying this.

Just checked and they don't have any at the moment, but I got an Acer Predator monitor with those stats for ~$450 from the Acer Recertified website. The same one is available on Amazon for $500 right here:
Acer Predator XB271HU bmiprz 27" WQHD (2560x1440) NVIDIA G-SYNC IPS Monitor, (Display Port & HDMI Port, 144Hz) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B06ZXZ3QBD/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_OzKFDbY8SWA7X

Absolutely fantastic monitor, just has a 4ms response time which doesn't fit your criteria but the difference from 3 to 4 ms was acceptable when I bought mine.

Alright let me break down my questions/statements!

u/Crimtos · 1 pointr/Monitors

As far as I know there are currently only two choices when it comes to 1440p 144hz ips g-sync monitors (however there are more if you include g-sync compatible).

There is the Acer xb271hu for $550: https://www.amazon.com/Acer-Predator-XB271HU-bmiprz-2560x1440/dp/B06ZXZ3QBD

And the Asus Rog Swift p279qz for $543: https://www.amazon.com/ASUS-PG279QZ-Ergonomic-G-Sync-Monitor/dp/B07HZSBW7V

Personally, I went with the xb271hu. Unlike what some of the reviews say my monitor came with no dead pixels and has close to no backlight bleed.

u/Victorzaroni · 1 pointr/buildapc

IPS vs TN panels... Is it worth shelling out for an IPS? Is the TN panel Dell S2716DG 27" really that much worse than the IPS panel Acer Predator XB271HU 27"? Does an IPS panel warrant paying double the price for an otherwise identical monitor? I currently have IPS monitors but they're just 1080p/60hz, and having used TN panels before, I'm not certain I can tell the difference.

I'm looking to make the switch to 1440p/144hz gaming up from 1080p/60hz. I'm pretty sure my GTX 980 can do it. Maybe I won't get exactly 144hz on ultra settings on the latest AAA titles... What do y'all think?

u/Ambrosial · 1 pointr/Monitors

ASUS ROG SWIFT PG279Q 27" 2560x1440 IPS 165Hz 4ms G-SYNC Eye Care Gaming Monitor with DP and HDMI ports https://www.amazon.com/dp/B017EVR2VM/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_fVogAb4VH4PKM

However I have the Acer Predator XB271HU bmiprz 27" WQHD (2560x1440) NVIDIA G-SYNC IPS Monitor, (Display Port & HDMI Port, 144Hz) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B06ZXZ3QBD/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_eXogAbZPBVK1P
And the love mine. Idk if it’s frameless enough for you, but the only thick bezel is on the bottom the other 3 are very thin.

u/maximum_wages · 1 pointr/buildapc

This one probably has the best price to performance in the 1440p/144hz/IPS/GSYNC market.

The Strix and OC models will have some of the best cooling on the market, making them some of the best performers. EVGA has some good options too.

9700k vs 9900k in today's games are virtually the same. It is a difference of 2-3 frames, which you obviously won't notice. Again, idk how much processing power you will need for software development, but the $125 spent on the 9900k would not give you a relevant increase in gaming performance. Games just aren't really using more than 8 threads yet. The games of tomorrow probably will be so the 9900k will be able to keep up longer, but today, you won't see a difference.

u/xlollomanx · 1 pointr/buildapc

I don't know in tft review they say only this " The screen is available at the time of writing for £535 GBP in the UK / $583 in the US, making it a fair bit cheaper than popular competing models like the Acer Predator XB271HU (£650 GBP / $593 USD) and Asus ROG Swift PG279Q (£680 GBP / $699 USD) ". look both their review and then decide.

u/teshh · 1 pointr/buildapc

There is no 4k 144hz gsync monitor. I'm currently waiting for a 27" 1440p 144hz gsync monitor to go on sale.
I've narrowed it down to 3 based on reviews and recommendations from here and elsewhere.

You want links? To lazy to look for yourself? Here;

Asus on Amazon

Acer on Amazon

Asus on Newegg

Acer on Newegg

More reviews, more reviews from verified owners. About the same amount of unhappy customers by percentage. Hmmmm crazy...almost like it is empirical fucking evidence that these use the same panel, have the same issues, and about the same rate of BLB/IPS Glow/Dead Pixel issues.

Your personal experience in this sub means nothing. My experience here is about 50/50 between these two. Yours is not. Both are fucking meaningless as we cannot verify ownership from the people complaining, Reddit is not the only site people complain on, and we have not collected any data sets. Amazon and Newegg reviews however, are quite useful since they show verified purchasers, and average the results for us. Isn't that something?

Now, unless you can pull some actual evidence for any of your claims out of your ass, which I doubt you can, I'll assume like the last few people like you I've met, that you are a rare breed...a monitor fanboy...and I'll move on with my life.

I feel like I am seeing things but is this really the XB271HU bmiprz version, same as this one (but $100 less??: https://www.amazon.com/Acer-Predator-XB271HU-bmiprz-2560x1440/dp/B06ZXZ3QBD)

What's the catch if you buy online shipped to you? I feel like something's not adding up... Is there some catch with buying from Microcenter's online store that I never heard about?

It is weird that nowhere on the Microcenter page does it mention the "bmiprz" type or the overclocking to 166Hz. But other things match up like specs otherwise (the fact that it's the IPS version and not the TN which is the "Abmiprz" one). I've been waiting to get this one on sale so I need to know!

Spending so much on a PC and getting a freesync monitor is just not a great idea.

27" is a good size for 2K gaming, 32" is better for 4K .

You need G-Sync for your 2080 Super. You need an IPS panel, I would get Acer Predator XB271HU.
