The Acer Nitro is a great monitor at the current price.

I got it for 299 a few months ago and haven't had any issues.

It may not have the lowest response times compared to the ROG Swift and similar monitors, but they are also double the price.

I currently use an ASUS MG279Q, it is a 1440P 144hz IPS Freesync display. Other than some typical IPS glow and minor uniformity issues, it's great. I got this second hand from gumtree (Australia) for about 400 AUD.

For monitors, I would suggest getting it second one with warranty on it (mine still has a solid year and a half to go). This is because buying second hand is more predictable (especially if you're easily bothered by uniformity issues) and it can save you a buck for the same monitor!

Nevertheless, here's a list of monitors that may be appropriate for you. I'd assume you want an IPS flat display for its nicer colours, especially if you're going to use the monitor for extended periods of time. The reason why you would like a flat panel is that texts on curved panels have minor artifacts, and this is important because you do programming. However, it could be fixed using windows text calibrator.

On a personal note, I had a C24G1 at one point, it was ok... but backlight bleed and ghosting (due to slow response times *slowest out of IPS, VA and TN) were disgusting. Furthermore, I had headaches from looking at a curved display. So keep this in mind when purchasing a curved monitor.

I don't really know much about 4K monitors, so I am not going to talk about them.

For more monitors, just use this website from PCM

1440P 144HZ IPS displays:

ACER NITRO VG271UP - The value for this monitor is amazing (Freesync, IPS, 144hz...), however, its ergonomics is pretty bad. I'd suggest getting a new stand for this one. This one has HDR400 (please note, it meets the bare minimums of VESA's HDR certification, which means its HDR experience won't be as good as proper professional 4K monitors). However, further research indicates that there are some uniformity issues (it's a gamble between panel to panel, even if it's the same model, so it depends if you're lucky enough to get a good seed). There are other models that are slightly cheaper like the ACER VG270.

AOC AG271QG - This monitor uses an IPS panel from AUO (the same panel as my MG279Q), this time, however, it has G-sync and 165hz as opposed to 144hz (the difference is not noticeable), however, it doesn't have HDR (not that you need it tbh). It's about 100 dollars more than the VG271, and in my own opinion, uglier. An IPS display, means you get great colours but maybe some minor uniformity issues. Nevertheless, great value for all the tech you get, but it is over your budget.

Whether you need adaptive sync or not, it is completely up to the games you play. So including your specs and the games you play will allow for a more informed decision. You can read more about adaptive sync here. Also, some monitors have a set "range" where adaptive sync will be activated e.g between 60hz to 144hz.

Unfortunately, there aren't a lot of decent 1440P 144hz IPS displays with great value on the market right now, so I would check displayninja for upcoming monitors in 2019.

1440P 144hz TN/VA displays:

Typically TN displays are known for their fast response times (reduces ghosting) and affordability, however, it sacrifices image quality (by a significant margin). If you decide to get a TN... please do not ever compare it to an IPS, you will get buyers remorse almost immediately.

ACER NITRO KG271UA - Once again, typical ACER, crappy stand. Freesync only, however, TN panel means great response time.

Samsung LC32JG50 - VA curved panel that's 32 inches. Samsung panels are generally pretty good. The biggest downside with this monitor is that it lacks free sync... alternatives to this with free sync is the CQ32G1.

I'd leave it here, I will edit this whenever I find something better.

Hey, I'm also looking for something similar currently!

This is what I've got so far:

And the monitor I found isn't on PC Part Picker:

Now this comes up a little over your budget, but I have splashed out a bit on some RGB in the ram and case. The motherboard is also flagged as incompatible, but from what I have read, it can be flashed without having a CPU installed.

I'm currently looking at reviews on the monitor, because it is on the cheaper end of 1440p 144hz screens, but there are only a few that you can get for the budget. You can save a bit by going TN instead of IPS though.

If you stretch your budget £30 further, you could get the IPS version of that monitor, the VG270UP, on Amazon UK for £380. https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07G9J35CQ/

Just depends if you personally think IPS is worth the extra money.

How substantial is the difference between a LED monitor and a IPS monitor? I'm torn between 2 monitors to get

Option 1

Option 2

(Option 2 is confirmed 144hz after further research)

Hey

Personally for good value/performance I would recommend AOC C24G1 - Amazon DE link (24'', VA, 1080p, 144Hz, G-Sync Compatible, 180 Euro), it has good panel, great reviews all over the web and overall you cannot really beat the deal on this monitor. It offers great image quality, great blacks, smooth experience with 144hz and Freesync. It's only con is that sometimes, still rarely, there is some smearing in black to white transition.

For good value/performance IPS I would recommend waiting for announced AOC 24G2U (24'' IPS, 144hz, G-Sync Compatible), should be out anytime now. Probably one thing I would be cautious of it quality control at release and therefore Backlight Bleed and IPS Glow intensity.

If you cannot wait, then other good value/performance IPS options is Acer VG240YP 144hz version. Couldn't find it on DE amazon.

  • If you want to go up a tier Acer VG270UP - Amazon UK link (27'', IPS, 1440p, 144Hz, G-Sync Compatible, 372 Euro)
  • or Acer XF270HUA - Amazon DE Link (27, IPS, 1440p, 144Hz, G-Sync Compatible, 429 Euro)
  • at VA MSI Optix MAG271CQR - Amazon DE Link (27, VA, 1440p, 144Hz, G-sync Compatible, 449 Euro)
  • or Samsung C27HG70 - Amazon DE link (27'', VA, 1440p, 144Hz, G-Sync Compatible with newest firmware, Average Local Dimming with HDR, 459 Euro, be mindful of quality control)

    You can probably/surely find better prices at your own country product/price comparison sites.

    In my opinion at value budget and great enough performance, those options are only worth consideration. Especially that AOC C24G1 at 180 Euro looks like a steal, as for IPS side of things Acer VG24YP or AOC24G2U. At least for starting on the journey.

    Screen is how you experience and immerse yourself in the world that appears in front of you, so it cannot be disregarded and it's good to also remember to invest in it for good experience.

    As for IPS vs VA, for fast paced games and using monitor from far away or different angles or bright room, get IPS. For dark colors, immersion and media consumption in front of desk get VA.

    Samsung is only worth attention in mainstream VA panel (AOC, MSI and Samsung themselves ofc uses Samsung panels) in monitors, then LG and then AUO. IPS you can choose from lot different brands.

    You may invest in 1440p screen or even higher resolution, but then you need to make sure that Graphics Card is beefy enough to drive it. At least GTX1070/Vega 56/GTX 1660/RX5700/RTX2060 for 1440p.

    HDR is basically live vibrant color sync, but only worth it if your Monitor has Full Array Dimming or OLED.

    G-Sync / Freesync is way to synchronise monitor and graphic card to display motion more fluid, if you have bad performing components. If you got G-Sync it works with nvidia cards, but it won't work with AMD cards. If you get Freesync, it has to say G-Sync compatible for nvidia card to use it out of the box, then both AMD and nvidia GPU can use it.

Model name looks slightly different but seems like the same thing

This is mine Acer Nitro VG270UPbmiipx 27 inch WQHD Gaming Monitor, (IPS Panel, FreeSync, 144Hz, 1ms, ZeroFrame, DP, HDMI, Speakers) Black https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07G9J35CQ/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_IlOHDbX984CRZ

I currently have a GTX 1060 6GB with an i7-7700 @ 3.60Ghz. I have a pretty standard monitor: 1080p IPS @ 60Hz, and I'm looking to upgrade to 1440p. I play Rocket League quite a lot and a few AAA titles.

I'm interested in the Acer Nitro VG270U. It's an extra £100 to upgrade from 75Hz to 144Hz, is it worth it and will my build struggle with a 1440p monitor?

Any other suggestions for mid-range 1440p monitors would be appreciated!

Okay, your BenQ is TN Panel. Which is normal for gaming. TN Panel is easy to reach lower ms with higher refresh rates. But TN is actually not very good at colours. I can suggest you to look for VA panels instead of IPS. IPS has really great colour accuracy and wider colour gamut. If you were a professional that using Photoshop or graphic illustration programs, I should definitely suggest you go for IPS but, since you want to play games, I think you must sacrifice some specs, like colour. Sorry to say that.

VA is a bit weaker when we're talking about colours when comparing to IPS but still it will be a good improvement for colours from TN panels. And I'm sure you will get what you need when playing games, higher refresh rates, balanced contrast, low input delays etc.

But there is a fact that most VA panels are curved, it is just a hack for the poor viewing angles. But TN has also poor viewing angles. I think you must be get used to it.

I actually couldn't find a intersection set for these specs, maybe you can continue your search;

Colour (Best to Low) : IPS, VA, TN

Response Rate : 144hz is really hard to reach for real IPS. = (Pricey) , 144hz-160hz is possible for VA & TN Panels.

Resolution : Max 24'' is almost native for 1080p, any inches more than should be min. 1440p. Otherwise it will be upscaled 1080p %99.

Input Lag : 1 ms is really hard to reach for real IPS. = (Pricey) , 4-5ms is also really good for IPS. (you're not going to feel the difference IMO.) , 1ms-2ms is common for VA & TN Panels.

Budget : 150 - 200 GBP.

This seems like good colour quality between TN's;

Acer XF240Hbmjdpr 24 Inch FHD Gaming Monitor, Black (TN Panel, FreeSync, 144 Hz, 1ms, DP, HDMI, DVI)

This feels me like a good VA in your budget;

AOC C24G1 24" Curved VA LED FHD (1920x1080) FreeSync 144Hz Height Adjustable Gaming Monitor. (VGA, HDMI X 2, Displayport)

This is a good IPS but slightly over budget;

Acer Nitro VG270UPbmiipx 27 inch WQHD Gaming Monitor, (IPS Panel, FreeSync, 144Hz, 1ms, ZeroFrame, DP, HDMI, Speakers) Black

I'm not sure but I feel like you'll like one of 'em.
