Was thinking the same thing.

Here's a cheap 4K Camera with good reviews that looks like it can be put on a chest mount of helmet, gopro style

Edit: It actually appears to use the same form factor and be compatible with all gopro accessories. How have I never heard of this before?

u/GundoSkimmer · 3 pointsr/BikeLA

It's a piece of crap: https://www.amazon.com/GoPro-Commerce-Entry-Limited-Accessories/dp/B01MSUJ6EI/

But I bought a long long time ago for even less than it is now.

I would recommend a knock off GoPro like this: https://www.amazon.com/AKASO-EK7000-Sports-Waterproof-Camcorder/dp/B01HGM33HG/

Or just saving up for a modern used GoPro for roughly the same price.

u/thedoomfinger · 3 pointsr/bicycling

Don't get something stealthy, get something super conspicuous. I never get harassed now that I have a big, doofy camera sticking out the top of my helmet. Amazon has some cheap Gopro knockoffs that work well for commutes. I'm using the $60 "FitFort" model, which came with a mount, waterproof housing, and four batteries.

Edit: This guy, basically

Sorry friend,

My dumb ass didn't correctly read your question and was focused on the helmet.

Here is the camera. Came with lots of accessories:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01HGM33HG/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o06_s02?ie=UTF8&psc=1

The next model up is $10 more and has image stabilization. Probably worth it but i do like the one i have.

Apologies for sending you a helmet link for a camera question.

u/Kingyay · 2 pointsr/motorcycles

Camera is the EK7000 i bought for vacation on Amazon last year.

Mount is one of these GoPro chin mounts

u/jayel2002 · 2 pointsr/bjj

I looked over a lot of different cameras and reviews when searching for mine. I ended up buying probably the cheapest which is an AKASO.
Xiaoyi is also a good option.
The advantage over a phone camera is that you can just set them down and capture the entire room. The only downside is that the battery lasts for about 1.5 hours which is probably just right for taking BJJ vids.
Everyone rolling captured with AKASO

I'm sorry for not posting a price, I updated the post. I'm in college so it might be a little hard for me to swing for a Go-Pro. I'd like to stay under $100. https://www.amazon.com/AKASO-EK7000-Sports-Waterproof-Camcorder/dp/B01HGM33HG/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1494698605&sr=8-4&keywords=helmet%2Bcamera&th=1 maybe this one?

Harvey did a nice number on the lakes around here and I'm skeptical to get the boat out. Still lots of crap (people's docks and trees and what-not) that are just submerged below the water since it's so bloody high.

The one lake I have 100% confidence in is currently closed until the 14th. Feelsbadman, but I'm still excited that we're coming up on Fall! It's going to be a good year for bass, I can feel it.

Edit: This is the FauxPro I bought. It's actually super awesome for the price. I'm mega surprised. Takes as good as video as my Sony action cam.

Would something like this work or is there something specific I should look for?

My recommendation, had for 6 months works pretty damn good, have as a chin mount

u/McFeely_Smackup · 1 pointr/motorcycles

I picked up a pair of these GoPro knockoffs and they're actually pretty damned good cameras. They don't have image stabilization, which makes them iffy for bike use though.

u/furordei · 1 pointr/motorcycles

the chin position looks like it gets in the way of rider's field of view. also people say this camera is pretty similar to the gopro and fits the gopro mount: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01HGM33HG

u/devilkin · 1 pointr/LosAngeles

I currently have this https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B01HGM33HG

It comes with a waterproof case that has a strap that can attach to it. I loop the strap in the gaps of my helmet and it fastens it in place on the top of my head.

u/definitelylegitlol · 1 pointr/solotravel

Hmm, that's interesting that there is such a high markup since it's Canada.

You might consider this one, shoots 4k which gives you a lot more to work with when editing (cropping etc), comes with a case, shoots 1080p 60 FPS. There's a ton more reviews on the US Amazon.

Both work with GoPro accessories, so you could get an accessories kit for CAD $15.

u/mexiCraig · 1 pointr/motorcycles

Every side-by-side I found it appears to be more of a HDR type effect with the EK7000. Could be some rendering done before the upload though but if you youtube the camera, you will see most, if not all videos have those bright colors to it. Looking at the videos, I would definitely say it is nicer than the gopro comparison but again, I don't own either so I am not sure if there's some touch ups before the uploads.

With the price of the EK7000, if the reviews are good you can't go wrong for entry level.

Edit: It's 4.5 stars with 4,220 reviews. BUY IT!

RX100 (any generation) plus a GoPro since you mentioned water (or the cheap Chinese brand action cameras are pretty good)

u/clickbaitcomment · 1 pointr/homesecurity

How lit is it around your car? You could get something like This
and put it on dashcam mode, as long as you have a car lighter socket that's got power it will record for 10 minutes, start a new recording and record another 10 minutes. Once the card is full it just goes and records over the oldest file. I have a 32gb card that holds around 12 hours of footage.

u/j-j-a · 1 pointr/Photography_Gear

You could use your phones inside the car and shoot in 4K.

For external, you could get some cheap GoPro knock offs for outside (something like this):

Oddly enough, I've heard from 2 people that this was a decent budget action cam. YMMV. I haven't used it, but check the reviews. May be a good option. I would chest mount it and just enjoy the trip. AKASO EK7000 4K WIFI Sports Action Camera Ultra HD Waterproof DV Camcorder 12MP 170 Degree Wide Angle https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01HGM33HG/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_sHCfzbR0DEKX3

u/NastyBTC · 1 pointr/drones

I'm looking at purchasing the same, do you have/know someone with a postage/drug scale and weigh the camera? My hope is I can replace the syma cam with [this cheap "4K" cam. ](AKASO EK7000 4K WIFI Sports Action Camera Ultra HD Waterproof DV Camcorder 12MP 170 Degree Wide Angle https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01HGM33HG/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_JxQBybSXHKCES)

Has anyone tried/thought if this modification?

Edit: BTW, I received a syma for Christmas that looks exactly like X8g (was Red) but the action cam could link up to my phone for fpv (camera looked the same as other x8g's) the problem was the nuts/caps that secure rotors had no threads, only "pressed" onto rotor shaft loose enough that one would fly off as soon as motors fired up - causing the blade to do the same. I returned the drone to Costco and continued to search the web for a replacement until I decided to get the x8g on Amazon (basically the same minus fpv feature). Oddly, I was unable to find the Costco model ANYWHERE online.

So 2 questions:
1.) does your x8g have any similar issues? How are the "caps" on yours?
2.) does anyone know if Costco sells defective merchandise sometimes, almost like a Nike outlet?

There are a lot of Action Cameras on Amazon under $100. I have never tried one out myself, but you may be able to search the reviews or see if anyone has tried them out. Something such as this

u/introvertederror · 1 pointr/djiphantom

I'm not sure which one Swaggles is talking about, but the Akaso EK7000 is incredible for $80. It can do 4K/25, 2.7K/30, and 1080P/60. It also has wifi for live view and supports the same mounts as a GoPro. I love mine.

Edit: it's also a bit lighter weight than a GoPro so hopefully your flight times would increased.

u/Seagrave4187 · 0 pointsr/gopro

Any reason to buy a GoPro for $400 vs something like this for $90? I always assumed GoPro was the only real option but some of the reviews have me thinking.
