I have the G6 and love it but being on T-Mobile and JOD it's tough to ignore the S8. T-Mobile has 4x4 MIMO and carrier aggregation in the city I live in - S8 takes full advantage of that and LTE speeds are insane. Second, a preorder comes with the Gear VR + controller. For $99 you also get Bluetooth over ear headphones (https://www.amazon.com/AKG-Bluetooth-Headphone-Black-Y50BTBLK/dp/B01BX72RUY) and a 256gb SD card. That's a lot of gear.

If the G6 had the same antenna capabilities I'd probably stick with it but honestly it's too little too late. That being said it's an amazing phone and absolutely a solid choice over the S8 for many reasons - LG's Android overlay feels like stock Android and the wide angle camera lens is super cool.

Looking at it from the perspective of a buyer who ONLY wants the phone: T-mobile has the Gear VR, Controller, and bonus Oculus content; and then a deal where you pay $100 extra for some stuff you probably didn't want in the first place.

After a one minute google search I've already found two other retailers that have better offers albeit not offering t-mobile branded phones.

Best Buy: Pre-order and get everything t-mobile is including plus a clean $100 off of the total price http://www.bestbuy.com/site/clp/samsung-galaxy-s8/pcmcat1489428710715.c?id=pcmcat1489428710715

Sams Club: Pre-order and get everything t-mobile is including plus a $150 Sams Club gift card https://www.samsclub.com/sams/html/desktop/samsung/preorder.html

Am I missing something or does t-mobile enjoy shaking down their customers by refusing to stock their phones in other retailers and then giving arguably the worst deal on the market for a new release?

Not to mention looking at the listing for the AKG headphones on amazon, the price was intentionally hiked up twice since the end of Feb, I assume to coincide with the release of the GS8, from $120 to $150 in order to look like a better deal. The micro SD price has been stable.

I keep seeing these numbers but they are totally wrong.

Micro SD Card - ~$150

Headphones - ~$120

Gear VR - New one with remote is not for sale yet, but given they are giving them away to all pre-orders, market value will be much lower than $129.

AKG has a pretty loyal fan base, especially in the audiophile realm. Still waiting on mine but, having had two other pairs of AKG's I'm excited!

I recommend looking for adequate padding in whatever you get. I have found some sub$100 wireless headphones that might work but I've never tried them. They're about $15-30. If you're willing to go up in price, then the creative aurvana live, k52, and ath m20 are good options for around $50-60. Those are all wired though. Sorry everything's in us dollars.

5.1 and 7.1 surround are just a gimmick, you only have two ears and when you're using headphones you basically cancel out your ears ability to differentiate what elevation/direction a sound is coming from (this depends on the shape of your inner ear catching the soundwave and the soundwave bouncing off the folds in your ear at different times, your brain is tuned for your ear shape but headphones distort that, and they also bring the sound too close for the effect to really make a difference.)

Emulated surround is the best way to go with headphones since they're so close to your ear, the emulator modifies the timing of these sounds so they hit the correct ear at the time they would have hit them if you heard the sound in the open air. Plus the audio driver size is so small in surround headphones that your audio quality is never going to be as good as a regular stereo set of headphones.

Anyway, given all that, there are a lot of options out there but I would look for something more music oriented rather than gaming. Many of the gaming headphones out there just throw together a cheap pair of drivers into a gimmicky device and charge more cause "teh gaming!"

I would check out some audio review websites for recommendations, I took a peek over at What HiFi and found these headphones that look pretty good for under $200.
