You should stop wishing and buy a keyboard. The one in the video looks like a fairly standard 49-key MIDI keyboard. Kind of like this one. You could buy a full sized one (88 keys) for a bit more. It is fun and amazing what you can do with just a keyboard, computer, and VSTs.

get familiar with recording your keyboard and stuff then you can move to guitar. youtube is your best friend, it has so much free knowledge.
This one is pretty cool. It has midi + USB port so he can use it with some of the programs or standalone with other midi devises. it has Pitch and Modulation wheels . all that you need to get started to produce sweet jams. (:

Short answer: Yep, that's what this is for!
Long answer: What the MIDI translator does in this case is turns your notes into keypresses. Those can be multiple keypresses, so essentially, what's happening is that the MIDI note becomes "Shift On+Keyboard Key" when pressed, and "Shift Off" when released.
For FFXIV, I just use a simple Alesis Q49 - It can be powered through USB, and is relatively compact. Might be a smaller one out there that'll work better though, I think they make a 25-key version too.
Just about any midi keyboard will have a mod wheel. It's one of the two wheels on the left of this keyboard:

You can move the wheel up or down to control how much the effect is applied to your sound. If you plug in a midi keyboard chances are omisphere will already be set up to work with your mod wheel immediately.
I'm sure there's a way to control it from within the vst as well, but I'll leave that to someone with omisphere to answer.
ah ok. I think it's kind of a waste to spend a bunch more money for essentially a 'crossgrade' rather than an 'upgrade' but to each his own.

But to be perfectly honest I think it'd be much smarter to sell your APK mini for $60 bucks, take that + the $100 you'd spend and get this Nektar LX49. It is the keyboard I have and it's fantastic value keyboard:

Novation and M-Audio are usually best sellers, and are fairly common in home studios. I prefer the feel of the Novation Impulse line, and the M Audio Axiom Air series. I would probably choose an M-Audio midi controller if all you have is around 200. Behringer used to be ok, but major companies (Musicians Friend, Guitar Center) have dropped them from their product line, and support is nearly impossible from Behringer. I had to order a piece from Behringer for a customer, and it took 2 months just to get a hold of the right part number, then another month to get the part shipped from the factory.
Alesis is great as well, if you dont need all the drum pads, knobs, or sliders.
In the 200 dollar range you should do just fine, I would grab an Axiom Air 25, or a Novation launchkey 49. If you need the 61 keys, get a basic M-Audio keystation, or Oxygen. Those UXM610 feel like spongecake, and have connectivity and mapping issues.
Get this one for 61 keys.
