I believe OP is referencing Music of the Spears and Labyrinth.

I don't remember what it was, because this was at least 20 years ago, but there was another Aliens comic in which this creepy old scientist had a flashback of when he had to perform this surgery, on himself.

When creepy old scientist was a young man, his colony was overrun by xenomorphs. All his family and his neighbors were killed, and he was impregnated. But before the chestburster killed him, some sort of epidemic killed all the aliens, including the one in his chest. Thus, he survived.

After he freed himself from the hive and made his way back to his colony's medical facility, he had to surgically remove the dead chestburster from his body, by himself. Following that traumatic experience, creepy scientist guy became obsessed with studying the xenomorphs.

Now I'll have to do some digging to find out what the comic was.

Edit: Found out the comic I was thinking of is called Aliens: Labyrinth. After browsing through some of the images, I'm reminded of how fucking hardcore this book was. Here's a taste. In this scene, Young Creepy Scienist Guy is recounting his time as an alien prisoner. The aliens kept some of the humans alive for experimentation. That one poor bastard with a missing arm and bleeding dick was experimented on / tortured until he went mad.

From what I recall, almost every other scene in Aliens: Labyrinth was as hardcore as this one.

One of my favorite Alien graphic novels is "Aliens: Labyrinth":

There is something truly haunting and humanistic about the characters in the story. Even if the characters seem psychotic or plagued with emotional doubts, these things only help to advance the story and make it even more creepy. Out of all of the Alien-related graphic novels, I recommend this one.

Right on! My dad bought me Aliens 'Labyrinth,' a very graphic novel (you can should read it here), before I was 10. It was awesome.

  • Do you read/listen to any books?

I'm really big on High Fantasy (Michael J. Sullivan's Rriyria Chronicles) and Space Operas (Simon R. Green's Deathstalker)

EDIT: Oh wow, that graphic novel came out in '97. I was definitely 7 years old, then.
