I used Permethrin on my gaiters once when a buddy purchased a bottle (around Waynesboro VA). Outside of that I checked for ticks often. After getting through overgrown sections of trail I would do a quick spot check on my legs, then at camp would do a full inspection (mostly) every night. I didn't like using Deet as it can melt through synthetic materials and is pretty harsh on your skin.

I only had a few ticks crawling on me, and luckily never had one actually bite and latch on while on my Thru.

I found This deet-free bug spray worked better than any other Deet-free option for mosquitos! It also smelled much better than ones that are more citronella forward (not my favorite scent).

This exists but I have never used it. I use this for myself. It works well for me but not for my wife. I thought it was pet-safe, but now I'm wondering. I haven't tried it on my dog. I worry that he'll just try to lick it all off.

Day One I'll have about 35 lbs (15.45 kg) of weight. This is my first time so there are probably several items in there I'll never take with me again, but I'd like to try 'em out once; I also have a shit sleeping bag that desperately needs upgraded. If you want specs, just ask and I'll happily share my spreadsheet!
