For another $2 there's an Amazon Basics 3DSXL clamshell case. I love how it comes with three cartridge holders on the flap, but it would be nice to have more on the other side of the clamshell too.

I've used mine for 2-3 years and not had any problems. It's been dropped, scraped, tossed in bags, and other normal wear-and-tear and looks as good as new while keeping my 3DSXL safe and sound.

u/clark-bark · 10 pointsr/nintendo

The Amazon Basics 3DS case is honestly the best. Clean and simple design, game card holders, it fits any 3DS model, it comes in Amazon's frustration-free packaging, and is only $12.

I've heard good things about this case from Amazon. And it's officially licensed by Nintendo.

u/jackie879 · 7 pointsr/3DS

I use this case. It's cheap and sturdy enough to keep the 3DS from getting damaged. My only gripe is it only has space to hold 3 games.

My everyday carry bag is a Timbuk2 messenger. It has lots of pockets for tablets, chargers, etc.

u/jonsonsama · 6 pointsr/3DS

I have the Amazon basic and it was 10 bucks. It holds 3 games, but I had 6 with me at all times.

Strictly regular N3DS.

Background: At the time of this post, there is absolutely nothing on Amazon for N3DS accessories aside from the cover plates (GG two day shipping). This is the culmination of my research after lurking /r/3DS and Google.

Case

  • Shit tier ($0 - $1): Walk inside your local Sunglass Hut or Lenscrafter (or message Warby Parker customer rep online). Ask if they have any microfiber pouches. These pouches will most likely fit your N3DS. Very, very pocketable.

  • I'm going with a 3DS XL case tier ($10): Easily found on Amazon.. 3DS will fit, but it will slide around. The issue with using a 3DS XL case is that there's a lot of wasted room and makes carrying the 3DS bulky. On the bright side, you can carry your charging cable on the edge.

  • eBay-ing from Japan tier ($15 - 30): If you're willing to wait 2 weeks for your case, you can find a variety of hard cases on eBay. The key is to know how to search eBay. Do searches with the arguments (-XL, -LL, +New, +N3DS) to narrow down the clutter.

  • Money is no object tier ($59): The holy grail of 3DS cases, CitySlicker. Leather exterior, mesh pouch for your cable, 3 slots for your 3DS games, and relatively thin. Looks amazing, San Francisco based company.

u/benshere · 3 pointsr/3DS

I picked this one up, it was £8.99 on Amazon not long ago when I got it, I accidentally knocked it off a shoulder length shelf the other week and it didn't even phase the console because its so tightly packed in a pocket inside the actual soft case. Mean't for DS XL but fits fine, games too.

Just did a quick check on ebay and can't find it, but have a look for DS XL cases too, they fit the 3DS.

u/Khirsah01 · 3 pointsr/3DS

I use TPU cases for both of my N3DSXL's and another one I had to special order from overseas for my N3DS. They do a good job of protecting the systems and still allow me to see the designs on them since I wanted something clear as I have Monster Hunter faceplates on my black N3DS looks like this, and my XLs are the Galaxy Blue and Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate units.

For carrying around, I have an Amazon Basics Case that is small and light and fits in a backpack or purse easily while protecting the whole system. Fits both N3DS and N3DSXL units with the TPU cases on and uses the elastic bands to hold them in place.

For storing at home so they're kept in good shape: I have two of the Smatree Hard Protective Carrying Case which is a much bulkier case, and allows me to keep a 3DS charger with the units if I don't put much else in the zippered pouch on the top half. The inner pouch with the ability to lift it out is an interesting design for keeping the system protected and is a snug fit for N3DSXL's with the TPU case on, but still doable.

Amazon Link for HORI N3DSXL TPU case. It used to be much cheaper, so look around to find the best price.

Amazon Link for the Japanese version HORI N3DSXL TPU case. This alternate link is about half the price for the same exact product that's above.

eBay link for a New 3DS TPU case. I recommend this for N3DS units as the glossy plates are easy to scratch on N3DS units and the plates can be hard to get as it is, don't want them to get scratched when they're hard to find or expensive.

Finally, no matter what unit you get: Always use a screen protector and get one once you decide which system to get to have it ready for when you finally get your system. Some people have waited on getting protectors and have scratched screens day one since the plastic over the touch screen is quite soft.

New 3DS IllumiShield Screen Protector Set

New 3DS XL Tempered Glass Protector Set Note: I have used and recommend the HORI brand, but those seem to be out of stock on Amazon and I'm not sure where to look for it.

Then, there's also GRIPS for the units as they're quite small and thin and quite a few people have problems holding their units. I like the styles from CyberGadget and use their grips, but there's also silicone grips that some people like. You can take off the TPU case on the bottom and put the grip on and just store the TPU case somewhere as you use the top half of the TPU case to protect the top shell of your unit. Obviously, any grip out there will bulk up your system and make them less portable and unable to fit in any of the cases. However if you're at home, it's nice to be more comfortable with your gaming sessions.

The two I'll link are my preferred grips for several reasons: They keep everything on the 3DS accessible as some of the grips are known for blocking off the game card slot and even the stylus, they have a game card door on the back that can store 2 game cards in there, they're easy to put on and take off, and won't scratch your system as they're covered in a rubberized material.

New 3DS Grip from CyberGadget You should be able to find it cheaper elsewhere.

New 3DS XL Grip V2 from CyberGadget I use this every day on the N3DSXL that I play.

I just got back from a 2 week international trip and beforehand decided I needed a travel case for my 3DS XL. I'm not much for cases, but I figured it'd be good to have one for storing my 3DS in my carry-on. I went with this $10 Amazon case, and am pretty pleased with it for what it is. It's cheap, holds three games, and keeps it from getting scratched up in a bag.

There's not a whole lot of room in there for anything else, although I was able to stick a 3 foot USB charging cable in with it, so I'd imagine if you wanted to put another game or two or a stylus you could make it work.

u/Shmoozen · 3 pointsr/3DS

If you're not looking to spend much money, want a slim case, and are okay with holding only 3 games, this case is great.

u/Db5260 · 3 pointsr/3DS

Yes, the region lock will not allow you to run European games because it is embedded into the motherboard to only run NA games. I'm pretty sure as long as you have an internet connection the 3DS will connect to whatever region you originally set your eShop in and you can download from anywhere.

I just ordered this case for my N3DS XL and I love it. It isnt hard plastic, but it isnt soft either. Inside there are some elastic straps to hold the 3DS while it is in the case, and a flap that holds 4 games.

u/quimby15 · 2 pointsr/3DS
u/RoflCopter726 · 2 pointsr/3DS

Yes, it fits. Its the Amazon Basics case found here. I like the case, but I might end up getting this one because it seems a little bigger, plus it holds more games.

3DS case! :D

I want it because I ordered a 3DS and a case will protect it while I carry it around. :D

Yes, the Mario edition is the standard size N3DS just like the 20th anniversary Pokémon Edition(which I have) and the Animal Crossing edition. It's currently unavailable but this is the clear hard shell I bought for my system. If you're looking for a carry case [this is the one] (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0050SVPCO/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_FqarybMQG3GXA) I have.

u/longjohndevine · 2 pointsr/3DS

In my opinion best case for protection/value....

I don't ever use the charging cradles, so can't help in that respect.
Don't really get the point of them, especially at the price they are.

u/RepeatingTheSameJoke · 2 pointsr/3DS

The AmazonBasics 3DS case works very well and is only US$10. it also has three game card clots in it, though does not have room for a charger or headphones. The case comes in black and red.

Edit: upon reading the full text of your post, I realized that the case I recommended isn't really what you need. Sorry.

u/RegularWhiteShark · 2 pointsr/3DS

I use this case for my New 3DSXL with no problems. I actually have two cases, as I have an old 3DS as well (which also fits in no problem).

u/PharaohsVizier · 2 pointsr/3DS

I've had no problem with the Amazon Basics case, it's cheap and protects your 3DS XL even from pretty high drops.

u/TheDigitalLunchbox · 2 pointsr/3DS
u/Grumpydumpling · 2 pointsr/3DS

For accessories, I got this case and I can say it's the single best peripheral I've ever bought. I got it cuz it was cheap and it said it fit the XL nicely, and since I've started using it, I've dropped my console, my cats knocked it around, I've sat on it...and it's still in great condition! I also chuck it in my bag frequently to carry around, and the hard shell keeps it nicely protected from all the other things I just throw in.

With games I'm not very adventurous. I got the console on my birthday last December, and since then I've acquired 4 games in total. Pokemon I got with it, Animal Crossing was another gift, and Harvest Moon: A New Beginning and Harvest Moon: A Tale of Two Towns I only got 2 weeks ago. I love AC but it's the sort of game where if you don't like more laid back "play it how you want" sort of games then you won't really appreciate it.

u/necrochaos · 1 pointr/3DS

Any word on backplates for the new3DSXL?

As for a carry case, I bought the following: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0050SVPCO/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 It works well for me.

u/FatMagic · 1 pointr/3DS

I purchased this case from Amazon - actually created by Amazon (resold, whatever). It's a really great case and affordable. I really like it alot. I don't have many 3DS games, so carrying just 3 games is perfect for me. Check out the video review if you want to see it in action.

u/Boom_frontpage · 1 pointr/3DS

I bought this carrying case:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0050SVPCO/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I highly recommend it if you take your 3DS out of the house with you!

u/awkwardtango · 1 pointr/3DS

Maybe look into getting some accessories for your 3DS?

Amazon has a very functional carrying case, and you could also get a snap-on protector for scratches and what not.

Still cheaper than buying a 2DS for the purpose of having it get banged up.

u/Heavykiller · 1 pointr/3DS

As said, I think they kind of fucked up on the whole mesh pouch.

The best part of the art is on the back side of the flap and this is terrible as you either get to look at 3/4ths of the moon or get to look at everything else, but eventually stretch out the pouch. The pouch being stretched out is my main concern as right now, it may be fine and dandy to leave it on the 'top', but after holding that weight for so long it's going to slowly stretch it out. Next thing you know, if someone opens it with the pouch on the top, the N3DS is at risk of falling out.

I really like it, but I feel like they made a fatal flaw here. I might just end up using this one to keep my old 3DS XL safe and use the AmazonBasics 3DS Case for my MM N3DS XL when I go out. I've yet to find a case that matches this in quality, protection, etc. aside from only being able to hold 3 games max(4 if you count the cartridge in your 3DS).

It's an awesome little LoZ case for sure, but just that little 'design flaw' is what holds it back for me.

u/proofinpuddin · 1 pointr/EDC

I got a Donkey Kong Country one, that is basically: This but with DK on it. There's room for 8 games, stylus, and there are elastics to hold the unit in. I have a 3DS XL too. The Nintendo-branded stuff is great.
Also:

THIS!
or
THIS

I also throw mine in my backpack in the case and it has been great protection.
Hope that helps.
No belt loops, but mine came with a carabiner, and there's some room to spare.

u/sotheniderped · 1 pointr/3DS

Amazon has a case that really fits my xl well and has little pockets for three games
http://www.amazon.com/AmazonBasics-Carrying-Case-Nintendo-3DS-Lite/dp/B0050SVPCO/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1381761144&sr=8-2&keywords=3ds+case

Pick up Fire Emblem (in addition to Pokemon!). I've also got Animal Crossing, but I find it to be really time consuming and something you have to dedicate yourself to without getting guilt trips when you look at the cartridge.

u/JumbledThought · 1 pointr/3DS

If you just want to hold your 3DS and a few games, this case from Amazon Basics is good and inexpensive. I've been using it for a month or so and have no complaints. It's sturdy, holds my 3DS XL well, and has a small pouch for 3 extra games. Also "officially endorsed" and comes in a plain, brown recyclable box.

u/Neato · 1 pointr/3DS

This thing.

It's a semi-hard case with 3 slots for game carts. I can also throw extra stylus and headphones in the pouch easily.

u/tempmike · 1 pointr/3DS

I just use my old case for my XL there's no problems with the N3DS sliding around, the elastic bands hold it fine.

u/diprotic · 1 pointr/3DS

The only accessory I've bought for my 3DS XL has been this case for when I carry it around with me in my backpack.

http://www.amazon.com/AmazonBasics-Carrying-Case-Nintendo-3DS-Lite/dp/B0050SVPCO/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1382801284&sr=8-2&keywords=3ds+carrying+case

Other than that I don't really think there are any essential accessories.

u/WompWomp187 · 1 pointr/3DS
u/VuxIntruder · 1 pointr/3DS

I've currently got the Amazon Basics 3DS Case, which is a fantastic case for only $10. Fits the 3DS XL quite perfectly and has slots for three game cartridges and accessories. I've also got the Hyperkin 3DS XL aluminum shell, which fits in the Amazon case as well and is great if you want something to protect the console while you're playing it, since the Amazon case (and similar cases) are only ideal for transport and storage.

u/SeerUD · 1 pointr/3DS

I have one of these: http://www.amazon.co.uk/AmazonBasics-Carrying-Nintendo-Officially-Licenced/dp/B0050SVPCO/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1417990841&sr=8-1&keywords=3ds+case

I know it says for the 3DS, not the XL, but my XL fits in it very nicely, and it's not tight on it or anything, there's a perfect amount of room for it. Just looks at the reviews :)

What's great about it is that it's a hard case.

Unfortunately, it won't hold your charger, but it can hold the console and some games. I think you'll be hard pressed to find one that can hold the charger though.

u/dick_wig · 1 pointr/3DS

This baby has been awesome for me. One morning I rolled my 4-wheeler and I swear I had to have smashed my xl, but upon inspection all was well! I would carry it around in a dusty tractor all summer and my xl stayed in perfect condition. Also, it holds 6 games!

u/Ninjaboi333 · 1 pointr/3DS

New Nintendo 3DS question

I'm looking for a case for my New Nintendo 3DS (not the XL version, got that sweet 20th anniversary Pokemon edition). I had my 2DS screen cracked on a flight in my bag before so I'm not taking any chances now and looking for a hard case for those kind of trips, ideally one that I could throw the charger into as well, though not necessary.

Only problem: I tried looking on Amazon for a case and literally every New Nintendo 3DS case is designed for the XL edition, and most reviews say that it is a bit too big for the smaller editions. See this AmazonBasics case as an example

Does anyone have any leads on a nice case for travel? I already put on a hard shell as well as a screen protector.

Thanks in advance

Carrycase

This is the exact one I got when I bought my 3ds last year. Works great and now they got a red color too! My 3ds xl has been scratch free for the most part

I bought this case and this strap. Put the black strap on my 3DS and replaced the old straps on my wii controllers. Been great so far.

Nintendo 3ds case. It's not discreet in size, but it's inconspicuous. It's a little big for your pants pocket, but in a coat pocket or a backpack, it's great. There are a couple of pouches where you can keep your wax, some extra batteries, dab tools, and alcohol wipes.

I got mine last November. It looks the same as when I got it. I take it on my commutes a lot of the time. From the 2016 stats, I've walked ~500k steps with it and used it for 180h this year.

It has top/bottom screen protectors and a Boo Decalgirl on it. Most days it goes into my purse without a case, but if I'm throwing it into a backpack or suitcase, I use this AmazonBasics case.

Bundle includes (would rather not sell items separately):

  • White New 3DS (NA region) with Hori screen protectors already installed

  • Super Smash Bros. plates

  • Two sets of Animal Crossing plates, this one and this one

  • YUYIKES premium USB charger

  • Black travel case

I can also provide the original box, AR cards, etc. if you'd like. I will provide pictures as soon as I'm home! How much are you willing to pay for the bundle? Used versions of the NA regular sized, New 3DS typically selling for ~$250-300 on Amazon and eBay. Lowest I would go is $200, plus shipping for everything.

I have both and they both work fine.

The bigger case will leave room for plastic covers on the 3ds.

Awesome XL case for 10 bucks, its a sturdy shell so it would be pretty hard to accidentally pop your game out while taking it out.

u/Jaebeommie · 1 pointr/3DS

I'm not sure because I use a plastic case so I don't get fingerprints on my 3DS. I know there are padded ones if you want that kind of protection.
But if you're looking for travel cases I recommend looking on Amazon. They're reasonably priced and they've got a good selection. For example, this one is reasonably priced and has a lot of good reviews.

u/mejjos · 0 pointsr/3DS

Glad to help. There's also this Amazon.com exclusive one, looks pretty similar to the Hori one. The price is great and it's available in both red or black 👍
