I'd recommend a premade solution such as the Gameduino. It takes a SPI interface and uses an FPGA to generate a VGA output.

It's meant for use with an Aduino, but it's just a standard SPI interface which can be bit-banged with a variety of 8-bit chips. Here's an example of a Gameduino being driven with a Commodore 64.

edit: You'd have to combine the gameduino with something like this VGA to HDMI adapter. If you are particular about DVI, you'd have to chain a HDMI to DVI cable to that as well.

u/cmkovalik · 5 pointsr/howto

You can get a single cable that is dvi to HDMI. No need for an adapter.

This is what you want to get audio to your speakers, it's called a DAC, (better, more expensive options are available, but that's the best you're gonna do for under $100 lol) and this is the cable to connect the two devices (you'll also need RCA cables)

This will get you video to your projector.

Unfortunately since it looks like you're using powered monitors, you'll need a pre-amp to control the volume.

You may be thinking wow that's a lot of stuff, and it doesn't even come with a remote! And you're absolutely right. Unfortunately, the only thing that does all that is a full blow receiver, which get quite expensive and are usually aimed at surround sound systems. Most receivers don't like powered monitors though, so you'd have to get a very special one.

This is where you realize that passive speakers are what you really want, and you blow hundreds of dollars on speakers and equipment and you become an audiophile. Luckily there's a bunch of guides to get you started over on /r/zeos. But the stuff I listed earlier should let you jerry-rig a working set up while you save up :P

Kind of weird question, but I need help finding the right HDMI adapter.

I have a really old Edifier 3300 set, and my cables that plugs into the headphone jack finally snapped. I have no idea where to get a replacement though. I've looked online and the closest I got to was this https://www.amazon.com/dp/B014I8UQJY/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_taa_UrMNBb4JYA74T

This cord doesn't have the right number of pins however, mine has 9 pins, 5 at the top 4 at the bottom and the same screw in connection.

I'm not sure if I'm explaining this accurately but what I want to know is what cable and I looking for here? (I want it to be HDMI for use with my PS4)

Note: SCART is hopelessly outdated and will not, even if you got an adapter, provide any usable image quality for a PC.

If your PC has DVI, a DVI -> HDMI (male DVI, female HDMI) adapter will work.

If it has Displayport, a Displayport -> HDMI (male Displayport, female HDMI) adapter will also work.

You might also find straight DVI-HDMI and Displayport-HDMI cables. If so they both need to be male. Note that the Displayport one must go FROM Displayport TO HDMI.

as examples of either.

I did the same thing and built my PC in the middle of July and still am only missing my card. I bought a cheap $10usd gpu to make sure everything worked properly and install all my other drivers and software.

And that way, I can make myself be a little more patient knowing my build is stable and running.

In case you go that route, I had to also purchase a cheap DVI to HDMI to use it, FYI.

u/act-of-reason · 2 pointsr/techsupport

Yes, I used to use one of these to output from PS3 (HDMI) to computer monitor (DVI).

u/badillin · 2 pointsr/pcmasterrace

There are 5 different DVI connectors.

The rx460 uses DVI-D

So to connect to rhe monitor you want youll need an adaptor

Any of these would work.

u/sotodefonk · 2 pointsr/pcgamingtechsupport

You need an adapter or a cable. I suppose your card is like this, there is a direct HDMI output, use that to connect one of your monitors, and then buy and adapter or cable from DVI to HDMI, or DisplayPort to HDMI cable or adapter, whatever is cheaper or in your store.

u/machinehead933 · 2 pointsr/buildapc

Yes, you can just get an HDMI to DVI cable or adapter:

https://www.amazon.com/AmazonBasics-Input-Output-Adapter-Cable/dp/B014I8UQJY/

u/macetothaface · 2 pointsr/buildapc

What ports do your monitors use? You can get cheap cables like this:
https://www.amazon.com/AmazonBasics-Input-Output-Adapter-Cable/dp/B014I8UQJY/ref=sr_1_3?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1505922534&sr=1-3&keywords=hdmi+to+dvi

Plug the HDMI in the GPU, and the DVI in your monitor if your monitor only supports DVI (or vice versa)

u/Newli327 · 2 pointsr/gaming

Some monitors have HDMI ports on the back. If yours does, I think you know what to do from there. If not, your monitor should have a DVI port on the back. I have a simple adapter that I bought on amazon that you can buy for about $5.00-$7.00.

u/Scops · 2 pointsr/techsupport

Great! Okay, so according to a quick Google search, you can run both the DVI and VGA ports concurrently.

You CAN go from DVI-D, which is what you have next to the VGA port, straight to HDMI, with a cable like this.

Now, the only thing to worry about is that DVI cannot carry audio, whereas HDMI can do both audio and video. There are some TVs out there with a PC input that allows you to have audio come over a separate cable (3.5mm stereo mini, optical, RCA, etc).

If your TV does not have that, you might be better off using your PC speakers, or looking at something like this. (I have never used that part and can't vouch for its efficacy, although Monoprice is perfectly fine as a parts seller) If you can just use your PC speakers (as it sounds like the displays won't be far apart), then that would certainly be the easiest solution.

u/GreyReaper · 2 pointsr/buildapc

They are! That monitor has a dvi-d input so in a modern computer something like this dvi to hdmi cord would be needed if no dvi ports exist on the graphics output.

u/My_Police_Box · 2 pointsr/techsupport

If there are bent pins, then yes that is the issue. Either replace the adapter or get an HDMI to DVI cable. They are about $7 (US) on Amazon. See this link.

u/Defiant001 · 2 pointsr/bapcsalescanada

You can use an HDMI/Displayport to DVI cable if needed.

DP to DVI

HDMI to DVI

u/Lorben · 2 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

This is possible without a capture card, assuming you're not using a laptop. If you're trying to use a laptop's screen it's capture card or nothing.

So assuming you're using a regular PC and monitor it's a few fairly inexpensive adapters and\or cables.

To get video to you're monitor you've got a couple options and it depends on what inputs are available. If your monitor has a second HDMI port you should use that, but most don't. If it has a DVI port use a HDMI to DVI cable to plug it into your monitor. If neither of those are available you can use an HDMI splitter to have two devices plugged into the same HDMI port on your monitor.

You can run the Switch's sound through the computer and have it act as a mixer so that both the Switch sound and your computer's sound comes out of the same headphones\speakers. Saves you from needing to plug and unplug speakers or headsets all the time. You'll also be able to use Discord\Steam\whatever voice chat while playing Switch games if you're using a headset.

Note: This is assuming you're running Windows 10.

To do this you'll need an aux cable.

What you would need to do is find the Line-In jack on the back of your computer. Plug one end of the aux cable into the headphone jack on the Switch and the other into the Line-In on your computer

On your computer go to Sound Settings in the Control Panel. You can also use the search bar on your computer and search for "Sound".

In the main Sound settings there's a section for Input where you can choose your Input Device. Choose Line-In there.

Then click on Device Properties right below Input Device

Then click Additional Device Properties on the right

Now we're in Line-In properties, go to the Listen tab and check 'listen to this device'. Click on the drop down labeled "Playback through this device" and set it to your headphones\speakers.

You may also want to go to the Levels tab and turn up the volume coming from line in.

Press "OK" to close Line-In properties. You should now be hearing both your computer and the Switch audio through the same pair of headphones\speakers.

u/railerswim · 2 pointsr/xboxone

DVI is not Display Port at all lol. I mean it's a video/audio output interface haha.

u/MahnAtWork · 2 pointsr/buildapc

You could do this too

I've got a 27 inch on dvi + a 50 inch tv on hdmi.

There are also Displayport to Hdmi converters that work too for what you're trying to do.

u/sashascurtu · 2 pointsr/AMDHelp

One solution would be to use a dvi-hdmi cable, which are really cheap (7$ for a long and high-quality cable like this and use the dvi port, see if that works. If it does, just stick to that, it's virtually the same as hdmi except no monitor audio. It might just be the hdmi port, since b350 motherboards are all crap and have rushed designs, you might expect something to not function properly.

u/nwgat · 2 pointsr/buildapc

it uses multi-stream feature of displayport, a RX 550 might be a idea with a DP>HDMI adapter and DVI>HDMI cable

if your only using it for desktop work the rx 550 is way newer than 5450 and GT 710 and will do 4K HEVC/AVC video decoding and encoding etc so perfect for media

Three questions:

  1. For some reason, I have this idea that VGA is better. Is this wrong?

  2. Can you really have two different output streams? One using VGA and one using HDMI and still have it work?

  3. How did you get $35? https://www.amazon.com/AmazonBasics-Input-Output-Adapter-Cable/dp/B014I8UQJY - seems pretty cheap, unless I'm looking at something else.

The terms male and female relate to which side of the plug you are referring to. Males plug into females (reproductive biology). So the port that end plugs into is female, and the side of the cable that plugs into the port is the male end.

HDMI to DVI will always be just a single DVI-Link as HDMI doesn't have enough pins to carry the data from DVI dual-link.

If you plan to adapt DVI to HDMI (or vice versa) I'd always recommend a complete cable instead of a short adapter. It puts less strain on the used ports and isn't really more expensive. They should work both ways as it's a passive adaption (just connecting pins).

i'm looking for graphics cards recommendations: my goal is to run 3 independent monitors on my work computer. I don't really do heavy gaming, its more about getting more screen real estate when i'm programming.

i'm looking in the 50 - 100 $ range.

my current set up is your standard Dell Inspiron 580:

  • Intel i3 550 @ 3.2 ghz (x2)
  • 300 w power supply

and I have the following expansion slots:

  • PCI (1)
  • PCI Express x1 (2)
  • PCI Express x16 (1)

thoughts/recommendations? or, any phrases that I can use while googling? "3 monitors graphics card" doesn't seem to work.

This is not true op, because you dont need to game. I would reccomend just getting an adapter like this. The adapter you tried probably doesnt support dual-link dvi. This adapter does and in theory should allow you to get 1440p. You probably shouldnt have posted on this sub because people here sometimes forget that not all masterrace members are gamers.

Next, if your rift is still hassling you about USB, grab this for $17 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0192LPK5M/

As far as your booting issue, I'm not sure. It may be fixed by moving to DVI though

Connect HDMI out from above to HDMI IN on audio extractor: https://www.amazon.com/ViewHD-Extractor-Optical-Toslink-Converter/dp/B00KBHX072?ref_=fsclp_pl_dp_1

use this cable to convert your HDMI video coming out of the audio extractor to DVI and run to your LCD : https://www.amazon.com/AmazonBasics-Input-Output-Adapter-Cable/dp/B014I8UQJY/ref=sr_1_3?keywords=hdmi+to+dvi&qid=1555316493&s=gateway&sr=8-3

Run RCA audio cables out of the audio extractor (above) and connect to your RCA AUDIO INPUTS on your LCD - you don't need 5.1 or surround sound for onboard stereo speakers analog L/R is fine.

I checked and saw I had a DVI-D input, and searched a converter found this: AmazonBasics HDMI Input to DVI Output (Not VGA) Adapter Cable, 6 Feet, Black. So, this one should work, right?

u/Reygle · 1 pointr/techsupport

For the record, TVs make awful PC monitors. You don't have a regular PC monitor around to use that has matching outputs?

This will do, and yes- you can use HDMI for normal use, BIOS and the Windows splash screen will work fine.

That said, the regular HDMI port on the card will work as well with a regular HDMI cable.

u/Caanon565 · 1 pointr/buildapc

I am not sure I am linking you the correct item to use, so do your own research before buying, but you could try something like this: https://www.amazon.com/AmazonBasics-Input-Output-Adapter-Cable/dp/B014I8UQJY

A DVI signal is generally the same as HDMI, but without HDMI's ability to carry audio.

u/haswelp · 1 pointr/buildapcforme

One additional note. You'll need a DVI to HDMI adapter for your 2nd monitor. The motherboard will have 1 HDMI and 1 DVI output. The monitors (oddly) don't have HDMI connections, so both will need DVI. Not a big issue, but you'll need to plan for it. Adapters are cheap and I recommend just getting a cord like this one.

> I honestly don't mind playing them on the LCD

Yeah, a lot of people here do seem to mind (though getting "raged and flamed to hell" isn't usually something that happens in this sub), but I'm right there with ya. I've actually got 8 different systems (both old and new) hooked up to a nice LCD computer monitor I was given for Christmas (specifically a Dell UltraSharp 2405FPW, along with the optional soundbar), and it does a wonderful job IMHO, despite being over a decade old (these things came out around 2005 or so, I think). I just wish my Sega Genesis still worked (video output died somehow, so I'm using one of those crappy FireCore things for now), and I need to get a composite cable for my SNES... :/

Anyways, this UltraSharp is a 16:10 monitor (1920x1200), so it's decent for both widescreen and standard systems; the 16:9 systems have about an inch of letterboxing on top and bottom while the 4:3 systems similarly only have about an inch of pillarboxing on the left and right. It also can pivot into a portrait view, which is interesting. Haven't used that yet, but it might be cool for certain arcade SHMUPs (my Wii is hacked, so I can run some of those in an emulator)...

It also has a ton of different inputs, though it's missing HDMI. Luckily, HDMI and DVI use the same digital video format, so I just use a straight HDMI-to-DVI cable for my PS4 (and a USB audio adapter for plugging in the soundbar, so I don't have to worry about splitting out and converting the HDMI's digital audio to analog). Unfortunately, though, this particular monitor does not have HDCP support, so the media apps (YouTube, CrunchyRoll, etc) and the BluRay playback won't work on the PS4. I may get one of these things to bypass HDCP eventually...

All that said, my setup isn't nearly as organized as yours (shown here using the monitor's "picture-beside-picture" mode, playing PSO in my Wii on the right while studying this chart in the PS4's internet browser on the left. Apologies for potato-quality camera, lol). Part of that is due to space constraints, though -- I live with my sister, and keep my game systems in my bedroom so she can watch TV in the living room while I'm gaming... :P

I'd get a Ryzen 5 2400G (honestly you could also get by with a 2200G but you have the budget for this), get a B450 Tomahawk and the CPU from Microcenter (CPU $120, motherboard $115, less a $30 discount when purchased together), 16GB of fast RAM, a 1TB SSD (see this for pricing), a blue-ish case, and a 450W PSU should be more than enough. As for video output, the Tomahawk has one HDMI and one DVI port and your monitors have an HDMI and a VGA port, so one of your monitors will need a DVI to HDMI cable like this.

The first suspects to me would be the adapter, cable, or PS4's settings.

The PS4s settings are the easiest to check (if you have a TV it can connect to). Make sure the resolution is the lowest (or auto), that HDR is turned off, and all other settings are turned off or low. Then troubleshoot from there.

I'm not sure what an Accura Hdmi adapter is, but I've only used dvi/hdmi cables like this in the past (without issue): https://www.amazon.com/AmazonBasics-DVI-to-HDMI-Cable/dp/B014I8UQJY/

Oh, and another easy possibility: You might have to change inputs on the monitor (if it has more than one input).

good luck!

Just get a HDMI to DVI cable.

DVI has a better signal quality than VGA, meaning you will get a sharper image on your monitor.

u/HiddenGun · 1 pointr/buildapc

Yeah VGA to HDMI adapters exist Only about 10 bucks more so you should be fine for your budget.

u/PinguM3mes · 1 pointr/buildapcforme

Ok, this is the first card I've seen with no adapter for DVI and the monitor not coming with a DVI cable, so that's weird.

Here's a DVI to HDMI cable you can use: https://www.amazon.ca/AmazonBasics-Input-Output-Adapter-Cable/dp/B014I8UQJY/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1538007338&sr=8-3&keywords=dvi+to+hdmi+cable&dpID=41xlr1IK3JL&preST=_SX300_QL70_&dpSrc=srch

u/nailindapail · 1 pointr/buildapc

Do your monitors only have DVI? If it does you can buy a hdmi to dvi or displayport to dvi cable. If your monitors have hdmi or displayport you can just get either one of those cables as any cables and cable combination(both cables are displayport, one is displayport other is dvi, one is hdmi to dvi and the other is dvi etc.) will work with multiple monitors.

u/DJDellaRobbia · 1 pointr/techsupport

Okay so since the signal will stay digital this cable should do the trick for ya because you will not need the signal to be converted to analog, I use the same type of cable to hook my PS4 up to a computer monitor that I use in my bedroom. All you have to do is plug the HDMI into the slot on the GPU and the dvi to the monitor and windows should figure the rest out when it detects the display.

Hope this helps ya out!

A KVM is possible, but the big advantage of a KVM is that it not only allows you to share a screen across two sources, but also an attached keyboard and mouse. Unless you intend to use a keyboard and a mouse with your Switch, I'd go for a far less expensive, 2-port HDMI switch. That's all you need if you're only concerned about video. Plus, I'd argue it has more future utility. It'll be smaller, because it has less ports and the ports it has are smaller. You could bring it with you when you travel and hook multiple things up to HDTV's at hotels or friends' places. Plus, most newer displays have HDMI ports. Buying a DVI KVM (or even a DVI-only video switcher) is going to be more expensive and clunkier.

Here's an example of stuff that would work. I am not endorsing these products at all, I'm just picking the first well-reviewed looking hit from my search results (on Amazon):

search terms: "2-port HDMI switch"

looks good: DotStone HDMI Switch Bi-Direction only $8.. You won't get anywhere near that with a KVM.

and then, with search terms "HDMI to dvi", you could probably use 1 or 2 of either these:

HDMI to DVI (cable)

or these HDMI to DVI (adapter)

If you have a ton of extra hdmi and/or dvi cables, you might prefer the adapter, otherwise you could use it on its own in cable-form. Keep in mind that in a typical setup, the Switch's audio is going through the HDMI cable as well, and whether you used a HDMI switch or a DVI KVM/switch, the connection to your monitor is going to have to terminate in DVI, and that DVI won't carry the audio. Does your monitor even have speakers? Even if it did, you most likely won't get any audio over DVI. I haven't tested this myself, but I just did a little research and found you can use the headphone jack on the Switch, while docked, to get it's audio, so depending on what's going to be playing your sound, you might need one or more things from this list:

stereo miniplug cable (male to male) - for going from Switch to portable speakers or anything with a line-in

miniplug couplers - handy if you need to plug the above into another male cable

miniplug to RCA adapter cable - for going from the Switch to a stereo system or similar

Thanks! I've only built PC's with dedicated GPU's so this is new for me. So plugging in one monitor to the HDMI port, and using something like this will allow the second monitor to go from HDMI to the DVI port on the motherboard?

u/sciblue · 1 pointr/techsupport

you can get an dvi to hdmi cable like this: DVI output to an HDMI input

I have my main screen connected with the straight HDMI, but it doesn't matter. I'm using the DVI-HDMI cable that came with the ASUS monitor I bought a few weeks ago.

I've had good luck with Amazon Basics cables in the past, and they have one for a reasonable price: https://www.amazon.com/AmazonBasics-Input-Output-Adapter-Cable/dp/B014I8UQJY/

u/lightfork · 1 pointr/buildapc

Yeah, so the last thing you need with a mangled port is it to act mangled too. Are any pins shorting in the socket is something to wonder or try to inspect for.

Just an idea with the display port thing, it might not be the cause. You could also go for DVI to HDMI cable.

Lets hope not, right now is not a good time to buy unfortunately.

u/clupean · 1 pointr/buildapc

Are you saying that the video card doesn't have a DVI port? It should at least have 1 HDMI port which uses the same video signal as DVI. You just need an adapter.

When plugged into the integrated graphics, the discrete graphics are disabled by the motherboard's BIOS. The nvidia control panel can't see something that isn't there.

u/Son_of_Korhal · 1 pointr/buildapc

DVI and HDMI use the same digital signal, so passive adapters/cables are plentiful and cheap. Not sure why you've had such a hard time finding one. It's certainly a lot simpler than using an additional GPU.

OK. So you can ether by a DVI converter for the display port or for the HDMI port. HDMI and DVI cables are actually very close.

HDMI to DVI

DisplayPort to DVI

EDIT: Also just as a note, this isn't a question of maybe this will fix the issue. The GPU 100% needs the monitor to be plugged into a port on it, not on the motherboard. This is your issue and the GPU cannot do anything until you plug something into it.

u/Call3h · 1 pointr/buildapc

DVI to HDMI cable. The HDMI port on the monitor most likely supports only 60hz, but your GPU's HDMI port is most likely HDMI 2.0.

u/neocatzeo · 1 pointr/gaming

You need this thing. Rather cheap.

I cannot remember since its been like 8 years. When you get the computer up and running you will need to play around with the settings in to nVidia panel and the inputs on your monitor.

Assuming yours is the same issue. Seems like it is.

The DVI to HDMI?

The DVI to HDMI I currently have in is this: https://www.amazon.com/AmazonBasics-Input-Output-Adapter-Cable/dp/B014I8UQJY

u/ZeroPaladn · 1 pointr/buildapc

A single DVI on a GPU is getting rarer nowadays, two is unheard of on a modern card. Get a HDMI to DVI cable for the 2nd DVI monitor.

If your computer and screen has HDMI 2.0 ports, it can do 144Hz at 1440p. You will obviously need a HDMI 2.0 cable. Something like this:

https://www.amazon.ca/AmazonBasics-High-Speed-HDMI-Cable-1-Pack/dp/B014I8SSD0?ref_=fsclp_pl_dp_1

DVI can do 1080p at 144Hz, but definitely not 1440p @ 144hz. This should work:

https://www.amazon.ca/AmazonBasics-Input-Output-Adapter-Cable/dp/B014I8UQJY/ref=sr_1_3?crid=2OVNYSH7D6QVG&keywords=dvi+to+hdmi&qid=1568517449&s=electronics&sprefix=dvi+to+%2Celectronics%2C181&sr=1-3

u/mushsuite · 1 pointr/pcgamingtechsupport

I suspect your VGA converter. Generally, you don't want to do analog to/from digital conversions on the cable, as things get weird. HDMI to DVI would be the right way to go.

https://www.amazon.com/AmazonBasics-DVI-to-HDMI-Cable/dp/B014I8UQJY/

u/mattinm · 1 pointr/Monitors

It looks like your monitor has three inputs: (i) DVI-D; (ii) VGA; (iii) DisplayPort. And it looks like your laptop has two outputs: (i) HDMI; (ii) Mini DisplayPort.

If that's correct, you've got two good options:

u/iamofnohelp · 1 pointr/techsupport
u/DragonTHC · 1 pointr/pcmasterrace

I think you're confused. The signal is the same. If the display supports it, the video card should be able to push it just fine as a custom resolution. You can get a cable which has hdmi on one end and dvi or display port on the other end. Because the signal is the same, and the display supports it, there's no reason you can't use a custom refresh rate.

u/SpecialityToS · 1 pointr/pcmasterrace

Well, Amazon has this. I don't know how much shipping is, but I doubt it's 10$.

u/Geshman · 1 pointr/pcgamingtechsupport

So there is a wire that comes off of the monitor and into this box, then the wires coming off the box go into your PC? It seems you have one, possibly two options.

If the cable that goes into that box (I believe it is a mini display port cable) is NOT removable from the back of the monitor, my suggestion would be to get a cable or adapter that you will plug that boxes cable into, allowing you to plug into the Wii U.

If you can get the mini display port cable to disconnect from the monitor then this cable or this adapter should work. This option seems more likely to work if the mini display port cable can disconnect.

Note: Mac connections can be finicky, and it could possibly be proprietary (only work with other Mac products) so neither of these options are guaranteed to work, but I'd be willing to bet the $5 on it.

Also: you make the links into words by formatting it like so words

(Have 2 lg 25um56-p's and using the HDMI for one and DVI for the second)

Here is a few adapters, I dont know what your price range for actual screens are or I would link a few, i bet you have a few picked out that you were looking at or wanted but it did not have the right display port.

These should open up a TON of options for you, and amazon also has TONS of adaptors and switch and extenders etc for low prices. Since the source is HDMI just search HDMI to what the monitors would be, as for the actual setup it should still register the correct resolution easily and work just fine.

This video can be extremely helpful for you.

Also I'm not confident here, are you using all the correct adapters?

DVI to HDMI

Your signal should work fine if you have the adapter hooked up and an HDMI attached to that. My old gaming setup was a card with a DVI output, and I had a VGA monitor at the time. I used a DVI to VGA adapter and gamed on that thing for years.

u/Docteh · 1 pointr/pcmasterrace

What HDMI to DVI converter did you buy? The DVI to HDMI adapter angle is best pursuing. I'd buy a cable though like this one: https://www.amazon.com/AmazonBasics-Input-Output-Adapter-Cable/dp/B014I8UQJY

That VGA adapter should not be sold without a compatibility list on the amazon listing. :(
Whatever that adapter is compatible with, should have used DVI-I on the connector instead of DVI-D. ([DVI-D vs DVI-I](http://nvidia.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/221/~/difference-between-dvi-i-and-dvi-d

So your monitor uses DVI-D while your GPU offers HDMI? If so, you can use a HDMI to DVI adapter.

u/Pspboy17 · 1 pointr/crtgaming

You can get one of these for pretty cheap, dvi and hdmi are the same signal so you don't need an active converter. For your computer you can probably just get a simple 3.5mm audio jack to rca cable to use that. For most other things you can use an optical to rca dac, it's much easier to just use an audio cable then try to get it from hdmi. You just need to get an optical cable.
