Nice, I snagged this dual monitor mount that I've been eyeing for a while. Normally $189.99 for a new one, I got a like-new with damaged packaging for $106 after the 20% discount and tax.

You might be able to fix that (and spend some more money) by buying a dual monitor arm! Both monitors will only "stand" on the desk in a single place, so you could have the floating off the table a bit.

How does he support his current monitors? Does he use the stand that came with each? You could get him something like this dual-monitor stand. I recently bought this and it frees up all kinds of space on my desk. I love it.

Also, as others have said, if you're going to buy a third monitor, try to buy him another of one he already has. However, it looks like the Dell monitor is the better of the two (running at 1440p, which is a higher resolution), and it is certainly not under $200.

Also, depending on the kind of games he likes to play, a larger mouse pad might be something he'd appreciate.

Combine the monitor and the window.

Buy a second monitor. Disassemble it and take out the LCD panel and controller board and remove the backlight. Then mount the LCD panel in front of the window. This way during the day, the window acts as the backlight for your monitor, but if you want to see out the window just turn off the monitor and it will be transparent.

Kidding aside, I'd get your second monitor but I'd also buy a dual monitor arm stand like this one so you can super easily readjust your monitors or move them out of the way of the window whenever you like.

I saw this after looking at the thread as well. Anyone actually bought this before and can comment on the quality? It's way cheaper than the one on my wishlist.

I also recently got this same desk! I wish I had gone for the 72" though, I got the slightly smaller model and now I'm regretting it. oh well.

With mine I also go this AmazonBasics dual monitor mount, which is really great and I would totally recommend. You'll get slightly more desk space by removing those monitor stands from the surface, plus you can more easily adjust the monitors if needed when you go from sitting to standing.

I also got these cable management trays which really helped tidy up my wires. Your cabling situation actually doesn't seem too bad, so you might not need this.

Oh my god, finally someone else has my desk! Given how those shelves attach no way would I feel comfortable putting my pc up on the edge of it like that though.

I plan on buying a treadmill of off Craigslist for halfway cheap and remove the handles. I'm sure I can maintain the control module and connect it to a crankable desk. I still want to have the option of pulling out the treadmill and cranking down the desk if I prefer to sit down for a study session. I currently use a dual monitor set-up, which is relatively heavy, so I need to find something that is sturdy. Let me know if you have any ideas.

(A 2 foot deep desk isn't really deep enough in my opinion to allow for proper spacing between your keyboard/mouse and the monitors.)

I've been happy with Amazon's monitor arms, but they would be a bit over budget for you. But they do allow you to drill a hole in the desk and mount it to that, no clamp required.

Basically just mount it on your desk and mount the VESA mounts to your monitors and you're good to go. You will need a decent amount of clearance in the back of your desk if you want the full range of motion the arms can do; e.g. not good for desks that are pushed up against a wall.

I'm buying the Ikea Malm desk for my apartment;I currently have two of these 24 in G-Sync monitors, and I was thinking of VESA mounting them onto the desk.

Does anyone have experience with using a VESA mount on this particular desk? I was considering using the Amazon Basics dual VESA mount arm, but then I saw some people online who have had their VESA mounts smash through Ikea desks. However, each arm supports 20lbs, and the monitors themselves only weigh 8.3lb each, so I'm inclined to think that the arms wouldn't be too stressed?

As an alternative, I also considered getting two of the single arm mounts, because those might distribute the weight more evenly across the desk.

Any thoughts or input would be greatly appreciated!

The build quality is really solid. To answer your question though, the arms are independent, which allows you to have the monitors at different heights and angles. This means it does take a little effort to get them perfectly lined up. It does a good job holding them there, though. They haven’t sagged or tilted.

If you’re asking whether the vesa mounts on the backs of the monitors line up with each other, I think they do.

I have the 320 dual arm at home supporting my 34 and 22 inch monitors. It works but is not the most sturdy... Many parts are cheap plastic... Also, it may not have the vertical range to go over/under. The monitor wiggles whenever I bump the desk. Tilt tension is friction based only and hard to get tight enough, then difficult to adjust position. And the rotation (landscape vs portrait) tension is not adjustable.

My ergoTRON at work on the otherhand is much more stable and highter quality.

Try this. Or if you don't wanna drop another $300 or so, maybe this which, to my eye (based on not very good images) looks far superior to the ergo TECH stuff.

Maybe I'm just pissed because their name fooled me. I was at Fry's and said "Ohh! Ergoxxxx, thats a good price!" Got it home and was disappointed. Though apparently still not disappointed enough to replace it going on 3 years now...

For a 34" and a 28", it might just be safer to get two separate mounts/stands. Stability and weight support would be major concerns. If you're confident that you want a single mount, here's one to look at:

AmazonBasics Dual Monitor Mount - It's manufactured by Ergotron, a trusted name. There are reviews showing people using this stand with a 34" Ultrawide and a 24", so you might be able to stretch and replace that 24" with a 28"...your call. I reached out on r/monitors to see if anyone had any personal experience with this monitor (as I don't necessarily trust Amazon reviews) and received a response stating that it's a quality product.

Once again, personally, I'd go with two separate stands. Would end up costing around the same, allow for more customization, and be a bit more secure and reliable. But there are mounts that support the weight requirements for a 34" and a 28", so it's not impossible.

What are you expecting to spend? The Ergotron / Amazon Basics dual monitor arm mount has very good reviews and is very flexible, but it's $180. Which is normal for that kind of mount.

Static mounts can be had for a fraction of that. That arm mount has been on my wish list for a while but I could never justify the expense.

Yes, you can step up to 64GB and keep everything else constant. I don't think 64GB is necessary for your use though. In scenarios where you'd consider 64GB, you're likely to be using a Broadwell-E/Threadripper/Xeon/EPYC CPU.

IIRC, that same Ergotech mount I recommended comes in black as well. Amazon's dual monitor arms come in black, and they're pretty good, but if you want the best, look no further than Ergotron's offerings.

Here's just some notes from my research as I was looking for one...

The main design differences are:

1. Wall Mounted
   
2. Desk Clamped on back of desk
   
3. Hole in Desk and Mount to Desk with screw(s) or wingnut
   
   If you notice, there's a few other different design elements:
   
   Basic Design Clamp WITH Adjustment Mid-piece (Not sure what the official terminology is) Bestand/Amazon design I mentioned above
   
   

• There is a "middle" point just above the bottom of the base that is adjustable. This can be swiveled to further give some flexibility in the way it's mounted.
  
• Some of the dual arms don't have that piece and just goes directly from the desk clamp into the arm.

• Notice that the arms go directly down into the metal piece at the bottom.

  One other thing to consider when using the Desk Clamp Design or Wall Mount Design is that the amount of space you have behind your desk is going to dictate about how far out your monitors are going to be from the wall. Because you cant swivel the bottom half of the arm all the way around, then your top half + it's angle is going to determine the closest you can get to the wall.
  
  The top arm on the Bestand is ~11 inches. I adjusted the bottom half all the way until they were hitting the wall. I was able to swivel the middle piece slightly so the right monitor could sit a little further back than the left one. It's still about 15" away from the wall which is a little closer than I had with the stand.
  
  However, something I just realized is if you move the center swivel adjustment piece higher, you can probably get the monitors closer to the wall because the top half of the arm angles downward. So you will get more of an angle when the middle piece is higher up which should make the monitors sit further back.
  
  If the bottom arm had an adjustable height that would make it easier to make it sit closer to the wall.

  Obviously, the hole-in-desk design will give you the ability to mount the arm base further away from the wall so you can swivel the arms further backwards if you need to.

I actually ordered this "used", but really it was just a small packaging dent, but the Amazon Warehouse sold it for $40 off. There were no scratches, dents, or any problems with the actual product. Definitely recommend checking the "used & new" listings for the product, because a lot of them are just Amazon Warehouse reselling them for cheaper, but functionally they're identical.

Yeah it's the AmazonBasics Premium Dual Dell Monitor Stand - I really like it and highly suggest it. Only problem is I had to return my first one because a few of the screws wouldn't turn to adjust the tilt. Following on from yesterday's post with a surface dock from /u/SurfaceDockGuy I humbly submit potato quality shots of my two setups.

A little background; I purchased my surface last year right after the refresh to replace my aging Dell tablet but couldn't commit easily to the transition because the Dell docking solution included a drop in stand that worked much better for my needs and didn't leave me hunched over the tablet screen.

Enter /u/SurfaceDockGuy and the VESA Surface Dock and I was instantly able to build a flexabile home and office solution that allowed me to work with the same hardware whether i'm at home, in the field, or sitting in my office, it truly is the first party accessory that Microsoft is missing from the Surface lineup.

My home setup is a single Dell P2416d panel sitting on an Amazon Dual VESA mount with the dock solution. For a desk i'm using a height and tilt adjustable overbed table on wheels, this allows me to move around my house easier and adjust for sitting or standing positions (ensure you tighten the monitor arms to prevent overtilt).

My office setup is three Dell P2418d panels (two running native on the dock, one running through a Plugable USB 3.0 to DP adaptor again utilizing two Amazon Dual VESA mounts

Overall it's a great solution, the Surface adapts perfectly to the changing quantity of panels, thanks to /u/SurfaceDockGuy I can finally get some return on investment from my Surface.

• The cable management sleeves should be pretty self-explanatory, but they have the added benefit of having holes cut out already for more efficient cable routing.
  
  
• The clips are useful if you have to route any cables under your desk or just need something to hold individually-wrapped cables in a convenient location under your desk.
  
  
• The velcro ties are useful for organizing your cables before routing them through the sleeves. I prefer to group mine by audio, video, and peripherals, but you may prefer otherwise.
  
  
• Use the cable management bins to hide your messy powerstrip and whatever else you may want to hide. They can also come in handy for routing cables in more complex A/V or music-production set-ups.
  
  
• Powered USB hubs can be really helpful for reducing the number of cables you have to routing from your desk to your PC or from your desk to an outlet. They're also really convenient when you have a phone that needs charged, a new wireless dongle to plug in, or just plugging in your basic peripherals vs. having to reach around the back of your PC to do it. I keep the 7-port Amazon hub on my desk for my mouse/keyboard BT dongles, charging my phone, and when I need to occasionally plug in my mouse/keyboard. Meanwhile, I keep the 4-port hub 3M-taped to the bottom of my desk for when I need to plug in external HD/USB drives.
  
  
• If you have the room in your budget and your monitors support VESA mounts, mounting your monitors would do wonders for your cable management and organization. I recommended Amazon's because I use their VESA mount for my 34" Viotek and it's sturdy as hell, so I imagine their double mount is just as good. That said, there's cheaper alternatives out there, but I just can't speak to their quality.

This one looks like the arms have a lot of independent movement, so that might work for what you want. Unfortunately it's expensive, and I didn't see any pics or videos where they have one on top of the other.

You can get a stationery monitor mount, which allows you to pull the screen closer, tilt, and rotate, but doesn't allow individual height adjustment for each monitor such as this.


Or you can get three individual mounts, which allow full mobility (up, down, closer, farther, & rotate) such as this.

There's double/triple versions of these as well. Double. Or Triple.

Good brands include: Ergotron, Ergrotech, VIVO, & Amazon's version. Mount-It and Cable Matters both make some as well, but I haven't used these ever.

I just bought this one, it's the same exact design as the very well regarded ergotron stands. Mind you I don't currently have a ultrawide on there but it should be able to handle one fine

I was looking at the AmazonBasics brand one because the reviews are great but you can't beat such a low price model. Still on the fence but leaning towards the VIVO side.

Any idea how this would stack up against the amazon basics dual arm mount? That one is like 190$ and titanium/aluminum frame and supposedly super high quality.

I get this price point is really low and so worth it in any sense, but just from quality perspective what do you guys think comparatively? Or do you think a mount like the one in this post is really going to be just as good?

The AmazonBasics dual monitor arm is the closest I can think of, but I'm not sure it will work with a 34" ultrawide monitor like you want.

i don't think there's any triple monitor mount that will support a UW and 2 aditional monitors on either side, i'd say get a stand alone arm for one 27" monitor and maybe the amazon basics double monitor arm https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00MIBN71I/ref=twister_B00VRLV1JK?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1

It's this monitor arm with this notebook tray. It works pretty well. :)

Look into something like monitor arms, they give you freedom to move monitors around more than normal stands.

There's also more basic arms like this one if you don't need quite as much freedom as the other monitor arm.

I keep them as far back as possible but the arms extend pretty far. This is what I use for my primary 2 screens. It's very sturdy and holds my 34in and 27in panels without breaking a sweat.

I wouldn’t buy anything short of this. If this is too much I’d personally give up on the idea. Don’t mount high end and expensive product on chinese garbage. Ergotron also makes tons of great options. You’d just have to physically mount your portrait mount in portrait orientation. There wouldn’t be any swivel on the portrait. Not much at least.
