Hi! I also have chronic pain/am disabled. I play Steam games with an Xbox One controller with the Windows 10 wireless adapter. (I tried the Steam Controller but it was bulky, not intuitive, and I basically hated it. lol. YMMV.)

I have my tower sitting in this cabinet, which I covered with this film to keep everything hidden. My husband cut out the back of the cabinet to install a fan / make room for the cables to come out of the back.

We used these cord covers to keep everything neat.

I use this wall-mounted swing arm from Amazon for my monitor. I push it toward the wall when I am done. (I put my chair/station in the corner for this to work.)

I sit in an IKEA Poang chair with ottoman, using this lower lumbar cushion and this coccyx cushion.

I use this mouse arm on the Poang chair, these cushions for my elbows, and a beanbag rest for my wrist (for when I have to use the mouse).

My keyboard sits on a shelf beside me and I pull it onto a lap desk (stored under my chair) for when I need to use it.

I also have a wall mount for my Xbox One controller.

I hope that helps! It took me a long time to get something together that keeps my living room still looking like a living room. :)

3 monitors running on 2 computers + ipad air 2

iMac late 2013 27" with numerous upgrades connected to a 27" Apple Thunderbolt display

2012 MacbookPro -- replaced the RAM to 16gb and pulled out the old HDD for a SSD. This machine is mostly running windows at the moment although the far right monitor in the pic has since been replaced with a 25" LG 25UM56-P monitor (super wide screen!)

Workflow: Most of my notes during talks, presentations, and classes are taken using the iPad air 2. While I am seeing patients, I use my iPhone 6+ to look up any essential clinical data that I can't recall off the top of my head. The apps I use for this are Epocrates and UpToDate. I watch most of my class lectures at home using VLC, and scrub through the lectures using peripherals described below. I make study sheets either in adobe photoshop using a wacom tablet or on paper which I scan into my computer and tag using Evernote.

Occupation: Second year MD-PhD student. I completed a BA (Psychology) and an MS (Medical Science) before starting med school. After 2 years of med school, I switch to graduate school to complete the PhD. This usually takes 3-4 years (people in my program have the PhD timeline compressed and streamlined). Then I go back into medical school for 2 more years before starting residency.

Noteworthy peripherals:

  1. X-keys 24 (For macros, skipping around through lectures, repetitive tasks, etc)

  2. Griffin PowerMate JogWheel (for scrubbing through video at high speed with fine control)

  3. Sony UDA-1 DAC with Sony SS-HA1 speakers

  4. WASD Mechanical MX Cherry Brown Keyboard

  5. Mouse in image has been replaced w/ Logitech MX Master. I use Synergy to share keyboards and mice between different computers on the network, even running a different OS.

  6. Oppo PM3 planar magnetic headphones

  7. iPad case is the ClamCase Pro for iPad Air 2. I've tried numerous cases and this blows all the competition away, in my opinion.

  8. QNAP TS-451 NAS. This is my baby, my everything. All of my old material, lecture video, and torrents are here. The device is basically a server, hosting a website, VPN services, SSH, performing backups automatically, running plex, the list goes on.

  9. OWC ThunderBay. This is set up in RAID 4 and is where I keep my flac library.

  10. Gunnar glasses. Yes they are for gaming, which I occasionally use them fore, but I mostly use them for latenight studying when I develop eye strain. I hate f.lux.

  11. I have two Thunderbolt docks. One on the iMac to connect the ThunderBay and an SSD, and another on the MBP. This gives the 2012 MBP USB 3.0, which is very nice.

  12. Others: Netgear R8000 Nighthawk router, 2x CyberPower Uninterruptible power supply systems, a Macbook air (for taking to school and taking exams), Wacom tablet for drawing study guides in photoshop, staedtler triplus fineliner pens for hand making study guides (these pens are worth their weight in gold, buy them and see for your self), Antec bias lighting, Brother color laser printer, Brother document scanner

    Other stuff

In the other room is a 63" plasma 1080P samsung connected to a Pioneer 7.2 channel receiver, Ps4, Xbox one, and logitech harmony remote. I occasionally like to relax, and I also watch lectures on the big TV sometimes. I wired HDMI, ethernet, and USB directly through the wall into this room. There is another Harmony hub on my desk which works with Flirc to control the mac.

    Monitor mounts:

  13. iMac stand mounted using this desk mount and this adapter.

  14. The thunderbolt monitor is mounted using this wall mount here and this VESA adapter [here.] (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00EO7XH2I?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_search_detailpage)

  15. Third monitor mounted using this mount

    Apps

iPad: iAnnotate, Netter (Anatomy app), Essential anatomy 5, Adobe PS Touch, Memorang (studying for board exams), Figure1 (medical 'can you figure out the diagnosis?' app), Epocrates, UpToDate, QxCalculate (medical), Plex, several apps for interfacing with the NAS. Those are the big ones.

Mac: VLC for sure. Microsoft Office, Evernote, Adobe CC, Adobe DC, Transmission, Daemon Tools, Flirc, Prism 6 (stats and graphing), SPSS (stats), BioLucida (virtual microscope), Nanozoomer (virtual microscope), Fantastical 2 (calendar), Clear (to do list, also on iPad), Googledrive, Dropbox, Onedrive, Growl, LittleSnitch, Audirvana plus, istat menus, Default folder X (finder addon), Bartender 2, Alfred, Caffeine, enounce MySpeed (for speeding up lectures), BetterTouchTool, BetterSnapTool, TextWrangler, Radium (for listening to Sirius XM), Karabiner (custom key bindings), Parallels (for virtual machine, rarely needed), Synergy (this is essential for my set up, lets me control both computers with one set of input devices), BitTorrent Sync, Audio Hijack, Rowmote.

Windoze: Honestly this machine is mostly used to convert files that I cant get going right away on the mac, like old OneNote files. Especially, I use this machine for the rare moment I have time to PC game. When I do, it's mostly LoL, sometimes starcraft.

AmazonBasics Wall Mount LCD Arm https://www.amazon.com/dp/B010QZCT5W/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_tcVAyb2JHNG54

There is also a desk mount one at same URL, which is what I use for my X34.

u/d1xt1r · 5 pointsr/ultrawidemasterrace

If you have option to attach the arm on the wall choose the wall version, it makes things even clearer and immersive. Here are photos of my setup: 1 | 2 (from behind the monitor). I have it from more than one year and this thing is super strong and has amazing quality.

u/ThisKillsTheCrabb · 3 pointsr/ultrawidemasterrace

AmazonBasics has been a great mount so far. It's slightly more expensive than some of the less functional mounts, but I opted to spend a little more money up front in order to have the versatility of a full motion/articulating arm. Has been great so far - I purchased three for two 27" and a 34" ultrawide.

If you don't mind going without the full motion aspect there are plenty of cheaper options, but I have no experience with them.

u/MoogleMan3 · 3 pointsr/ultrawidemasterrace

It depends on the arm, but most will fold up very close to the wall.
This one is the same design I have my ultrawide mounted to and it can go very close to flush; basically the thickness of the mount itself will be the deciding factor on how far it protrudes.
Here's one of a different style; it gives more freedom of motion and can also go very close to flush.

u/Praenuntius · 3 pointsr/ultrawidemasterrace

Thanks!

Na it's a PG348Q. Stands are all wall mounted AmazonBasics LCD Arms.

u/AutomaticReboot · 3 pointsr/simracing

Hmmm. If you use the set up solely for Sim Racing, I would say maybe get rid of the desk, move the rig closer to the wall and mount the monitor on an extendable arm? Something like this:

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B010QZCT5W/ref=twister_B00VRLV1JK?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1

But if you do work on that desk as well then I guess that's out of the question lol.

This is the one I use for my 34" ultrawide. Works great for me!!!

Very heavy duty and you can adjust them however you want. I recommend them.

u/vespera-Blaze · 2 pointsr/ultrawidemasterrace

I'm gonna have a similar setup to yours. I currently use a 27inch 240hz tn panel for fps games and I also ordered an x34p that should arrive Friday or so. I also bought this mount https://www.amazon.de/gp/product/B010QZCT5W/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 . I will keep the 27 inch on the left side of the ultrawide and use the mount to move it in front of me whenever I play FPS. Both monitors will be wall mounted, but only the 27 inch one will be adjustable.

So a gooseneck is a piece of bendable metal that retains the shape that it's bent to, however, given the weight of a DSLR, you need it to be pretty hefty, and you'll need to make sure it won't fall by giving it a good wiggle. You'd hang the tripod on the edge of the top of the tv edge.

A more expensive solution would be a combination of this https://www.amazon.com/Rock-Solid-Monitor-Mount-Tripods/dp/B00BX8GCZ0 With another VESA mount like https://www.amazon.com/AmazonBasics-Premium-Mount-Monitor-Stand/dp/B010QZCT5W/ref=sr_1_9?crid=3NKBHFAMH6X7H&keywords=vesa+wall+mount&qid=1555706758&s=electronics&sprefix=vesa+wall%2Celectronics%2C140&sr=1-9 + https://www.amazon.com/Standard-Threaded-Mounting-Converter-Precision/dp/B018SMYL9M/ref=sr_1_3?keywords=camera+mounting+screw&qid=1555707325&s=electronics&sr=1-3

This gives you a nice degree of motion to have multiple camera angles to choose from without drilling multiple holes, and given that it is designed for TV's it will be more than secure enough.

But it's not exactly cheap for this route. I'm sure there are cheaper VESA mounts that will do the job, but I haven't seen any other camera mounting brackets that use the VESA standard. I'm sure you could DIY something for much less.

u/Sarpanda · 2 pointsr/Vive

I don't really understand your space, but honestly...I think it needs some help even from a non-VR stand point. For example, my computer is in the little cabinet with the router on it here (I took an cheap office space cabinet and cut out parts to make actually two computer cases fit inside it):

http://imgur.com/uwrMkfu

...and you'd think, wow, look at those 4 monitors, that's the "battle station I'd like to use...but...actually, I almost never user it. Reason is my room house this couch...

http://imgur.com/5hyqgI2

...so on the opposite wall, I mounted this TV...

http://imgur.com/MGAYfCI

...what is my point? Couch + TV + PC = ultimate gaming experience in 2016. 99% of my gaming, are all done from either a game pad or a lapboard that holds my keyboard and mouse, from my couch to my TV. This was achieved simply by spending about $15 and buying a 25' long HDMI cable, and just routing it from the computer to the TV (in addition to the monitors). You'll find your computer able to run at least 4, possibly 5 monitors if you have a a iGPU as well.

Soooo..if i was in your room, I'd make PC game playing on a wall mounted TV from a couch a priority. In order to do non-game tasks, such as work, e-mail, Reddit, etc, mount your monitor on the wall near the couch such that is could swing out arm on and arm and you could sit on the couch and look at it using a lapboard, I use something like this ( made my own)...

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00IV3AEZY?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o08_s00

..and a wall mount like this (I use a cheaper one)...

http://www.amazon.com/AmazonBasics-Wall-Mount-LCD-Arm/dp/B010QZCT5W/ref=sr_1_sc_1?s=office-products&ie=UTF8&qid=1458226352&sr=1-1-spell&keywords=monitopr+mount+wall

More pricey maybe than what maybe you want, but it's not for VR. It's for ranking up to the next level of nerd. I'd do all this irrespective if I was going to get a RIft or a Vive.

The reason is, with this setup you can shit post on Reddit and watch Crunchy Roll/Netflix at the same time. You can easily play Tomb Raider on your PC + TV with a game pad, or play Total War with your Keyboard and mouse.

Now, given that you no longer need your desk area/space you could just get rid of ALL that stuff there, and not only have much cleaner, less cluttered aesthetic, but amble space for either a Vive or a Rift.

u/tnelson31 · 2 pointsr/Monitors

You could try the wall mount version of the ergotron (amazon basics) but I think you would need to beef up the side it would mount to.

u/StoneColdSteeliness · 1 pointr/ultrawidemasterrace

I mounted mine on the wall about two weeks ago using the Amazon Basics Wall Mount. It is super sturdy and easily adjustable (raising, lower, left, right, tilt, and rotation).

Just be careful when attaching the x34 to any mount, the bottom screws are too long. I didn't have any washers so I used a DIY fix with cardboard cut from the box to fill the extra space.

u/last-line · 1 pointr/battlestations

Not sure how to add more photos of it... I'm new here, haha.

I'll give some quick tips though.

This is my best standup desk investment - the Topo, makes standing for hours much easier - http://amzn.to/2eCjgC9.
My desk 'top' is a table from IKEA, it's pretty small but works great for a keyboard/mouse/other misc items - http://amzn.to/2eCjY2s.
This is my shelf that holds my laptop - might only work well in a setup where you're in a corner like I am - http://amzn.to/2frgGQU.
Amazon Basics wall arm is great, but you can use whatever - http://amzn.to/2frfa0V.
I use this to keep power bricks, etc out of sight - http://amzn.to/2ed49k6.
I put this little led strip behind my monitor - it's powered by USB and I have it plugged into my monitor so it is on when my monitor is on - http://amzn.to/2fIhguL.
Mousepad, i like the Razer Sphex for this, just because it's so thin - http://amzn.to/2eCmPbs - but it isn't the best pad for gaming, etc.

You'll want to put your desk top height so that when standing on the mat in whatever you're gonna use (I just wear socks) when your arms are at your side, your elbows form a 90 degree angle to go onto your keyboard/mouse. Your monitor should be at a height where your eyes are inline with about 2/3 up your screen (1/3 of your screen is above your eyes.)

I also put the shelf so that the laptop is below my monitor in case I want to pull my monitor out from the wall - however 99.9% of the time I find that I just have my monitor pushed back as close to the wall as it goes.

When mounting the desk to the wall, you'll want to try to put the center part into a stud, and use some decently burly drywall anchors for the rest. You'll find you may inadvertently lean on the desk and things like that, so you want it to be pretty solid.

Good luck!

Thanks for taking the time to respond. I'm probably going to go with this, https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B010QZCT5W/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1

It's most likely not as high quality as the Ergotron, but at $100 it's hard to beat.

I use a monitor arm ( https://www.amazon.com/AmazonBasics-Wall-Mount-LCD-Arm/dp/B010QZCT5W ) with a wireless keyboard and mouse, all set up around a recliner.

I've tried the lap desks, I hated them, they always end up being too heavy, or a pain to move out of the way when you have to get up. Now the only thing I have to move is a keyboard.

u/soriorda · 1 pointr/hardware

If you want an arm style wall mount AmazonBasics makes really good quality ones. Not the cheapest out there but very sturdy. I use the desk clamp style ones myself which are just as sturdy depending on your desk.

Not sure what the weight of this monitor is but this amazon basic monitor arm is for 25 lbs. I use it for my 34" uw and its fantastic. It is a wall mount tho. I will say I like it mounted to the wall better than my desk, much sturdier.

Just make sure the monitor has a VESA mounting pattern. Most do, and that will allow you to use all manner of mounts. I have two of these. Mounted to the wall. Love it. A bit of planing is needed when mounting them, but nothing to crazy. And it gives you the flexibility to make changes later. I moved from 2x 27" to 34+27" without having to change them (i planned ahead)

Couple of suggestions:

  1. If your desk is against a wall, you could get a wall mount. For example.

  2. Does the desk have a cable hole (or grommet hole), or could you drill one? If so, perhaps something like this

    Hope this helps.

I've not mounted my z35p to a wall but I have mounted other monitors and tv's to walls.

The most important thing that I cannot stress enough is MOUNT INTO A STUD OR SOLID SURFACE.

I've seen people mount a monitor using drywall anchors and all that's going to do is eventually rip a big hole out of your drywall and take your monitor with it.

If it's a standard interior wall, at least in the US, it probably as 16" centers on studs. Keep in mind that some walls may use metal studs while others will be wood. If you can't mount to a stud directly you can run a brace between two studs and mount to that. If you're mounting to a brick or concrete wall it can get a bit trickier but there are ways to do it.

The wall mount version of this arm can mount to a single stud and should have enough reach to place your monitor where you want it if your stud is off center to your desk.

u/anujfr · 1 pointr/AskBattlestations

Hopefully. I don't want to spend 200$ right now with this. LOL

u/WiserNowM8 · 1 pointr/ultrawidemasterrace

I think this own says it supports ~22lbs and has held the monitor quite well. So my educated guess is that it's less than 22lbs. The stand obviously adds weight but without it, it should be fine.
