This would be the camera. I can't speak for security so be weary about letting connections to it though your firewall.

Definitely not dumb questions. I did some research on Blink and I'd suggest a different route. From what I've seen, the capture is very slow and you don't get much of a clip.

I currently use BI with a number of Amcrest cams like these and these.

My opinion is you absolutely don't need 4k. Unless you have 4k monitors, you won't see a difference

If it's visual that you're looking for we went with a home security camera instead of one of the baby video monitors as it was way cheaper and I could just have an app on my phone to view it. We mounted it on the wall and I was able to see into both of their cribs when we had them both in the same room.

I have two Amcrest IP2M-841 cameras which are my only reference for comparison. I bought one last year and another this year for $70/$60 respectively compared to $40 for the Wyze Cam Pan. I think video quality wise, they're better than the Wyze camera.

I'd say there are more software features/functionality but the software is horribly unpolished compared to the Wyze camera. Because the app is so bad, I end up using tinyCam Pro and tasker on a Fire tablet to assist in my issues with it, which is mainly late notifications, even though it's detecting motion on time/accurately. The Amcrest notifications give you the option to take you to the live view, the recorded video, or the screenshots when you receive a notification.

The recording length doesn't really bother me, it's the cool down period before motion can be detected again that does. I'm not entirely sure how it works on the Amcrest camera, but I believe it streams the recorded video from the camera which has a microSD card in it. It's not uploaded to any cloud server and there's no time limit placed on the amount of motion detection alerts you can receive. I was hoping the Wyze camera would be similar, I don't care about the cloud storage, I just want it to send me notifications the moment motion is detected without a limit.

I'm also in Canada - the $100 price point is a little hard if you want hard wired, most of the budget cameras are Wifi only. If you can squeeze it up to $130 I would do an Armcrest or Foscam PTZ - they will give you the ability to pan and tilt and will do the other things you asked such as FTP upload offsite, email notifications on motion events, etc. The software is a little buggy but that's what you'll get for budget cameras in general. https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B0145OQXCK?psc=1

This will notify you if it senses sound and or audio. It can also start recording when that occurs. Their iOS app is called babycam I think, but lots of apps are out there that will work.

Sure. Outdoors I have used their 3MP dome camera (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01E7QMFIM/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_IfwEzbD27N7W7), indoors I have used their slightly cheaper rotating camera (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0145OQXCK/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_7gwEzbVZHZ8CN). Note that the indoor model I chose doesn't run on POE, but you can run POE to it and then pick up a splitter that separates out the Ethernet and the power at the camera. It can go over WiFi...but I wouldn't recommend that.

I appreciate Amcrest's US tech support, and I've been running them for two years now without issue. They even go so far as to claim Blue Iris support. There's definitely other options, but they're a sound option.

I haven't tried their outdoor bullet cameras, but I'd assume they are solid as well.

I use a nanny cam. I'm not remotely sorry about it. And I'm not thrilled with my current walker who was a fast replacement for the awful company experience I had prior. Good help is hard to find! If it helps, I bought this camera and it works like a dream. I downloaded the program on my work computer and leave it open all day. It'll send me email blasts when it detects movement.

I don't know how I feel about spying on grandma, but internet enabled security cameras seem like the way to go. They're just the easiest to remotely manage and setup:
