Likewise, they don't list it in their Amazon entries either:

Below the historic low on amazon. Damn, now this is a deal. Nice find!

Still satisfied with my $275 R5-1600 but at these prices, would probably have bought the r7 instead.

1700 -$25 Below historic low
1700x - Equal to historic low
1800 - $75 Below historic low

This sale!

Now on the performance side. AMD promised they will keep the AM4 platform for 4 years, so there should be an upgrade path in the future. The CPU is soldered so you don't have to worry about thermal paste degradation, and it performs pretty much the same as Skylake-X which just came out, costs the double, is more power hungry, and overheats easily.

u/TakVap · 5 pointsr/buildapcsalesuk

Take note that this company, despite having UK at the end of their name, is based in the Netherlands.

Edit: Additionally, they're selling the 1800X for the same price (£212.49), maybe this is a pricing error? https://www.amazon.co.uk/AMD-YD180XBCAEWOF-8-Core-Desktop-Processor/dp/B06W9JXK4G

> Sorry man that's all bullshit again, take a look at the overall gaming performance, 9700K only manages 6.3% better than a 1800x

What's your cute little chart tracking? Average FPS? If so, that's a shit stat that doesn't matter as much as the low-1% and low-5%...which is worlds-worse in modern games with AMD CPUs.

> but is double the price, that $250 would take you from a 1070 to 1080

  • New 1800x = $245
  • My 9700k = $380 $420 (not sure why I thought it was $380)

That $175 difference would cripple me for 1440P gaming with frequent dips below 60fps (see image linked above).

    > That doesn't' even factor in amd doesn't lock their cpu's, my 1700 scores higher than a 1800x by a little bit and it's 33% the price.

So they failed to properly bin yours. Congrats on your luck. I'll pass on a 4.0 GHz clock speed, though.

Troll as much as you'd like but I'm done responding to you. Learn WTF you're talking about and read the "room" of the discussion you're butting into.

If the leaks are anything to go by (and the numbers were either surprisingly close or totally accurate for the top 3 CPUs in the stack), aren't the 4c/8t CPUs going to have even lower clocks and power draw? I don't remember seeing any rumour for them pushing even 4GHz, but it could all be complete garbage for all I know, since it makes sense to be able to have higher clocks with less cores like Intel does.

Edit: Oh yeah, check this description out: https://www.amazon.com/AMD-YD180XBCAEWOF-Ryzen-1800X-Processor/dp/B06W9JXK4G/ref=zg_bs_229189_1?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=02EPSEQGTTNHK09PX19Z "Push the envelope with 8 processor cores, 16 threads, and the highest clock rates you can get on the advanced Socket AM4 platform."

The first two are sandy bridge based, and get destroyed by even a 1800x.

http://www.cpubenchmark.net/cpu.php?cpu=Intel+Xeon+E5-2680+%40+2.70GHz

http://www.cpubenchmark.net/cpu.php?cpu=AMD+Ryzen+7+1800X&id=2966

and lets toss the v4 in there...

http://www.cpubenchmark.net/cpu.php?cpu=Intel+Xeon+E5-2680+v4+%40+2.40GHz

If you notice, it has a higher TDW, 120 vs 95, oh. It's also $1800, vs $500.

If AMD's Threadripper is under $1300, it will be golden, since we can assume pretty good scaling, with more cores.

Thread ripper could easily hit 28000 there. which beats the record.

And with 44 PCI-e lanes, it could easily take out a duel socket system, and run a shit ton of PCI-e devices nativly alone.

Is there a specific reason for not buying a 1700 and overclocking it instead? Im actually not sure why 1800x prices are rising when sales for the chip or fairly low due to 1700 hitting basically the same clock speed.

Anyways, looks like Amazon and shopRBC have the 1800x at $594 and $599

Ah, I've been looking at power consumption based off of price/perf since Ryzen doesn't compete core for core, but rather price.

>Considering the 7820X is more power efficient than the 1800X, is considerably faster, and has a much higher overclocking headroom, the ~20% price premium isn't bad at all.

However this is still not true. According to the site you've been referencing, the 7820X used 20.4% more power to deliver 5.6% more performance than the 1800X in C15. So the 7820X used .134W per point and the 1800X used only .117W per point. So the 1800X is 14.5% more power efficient than the 7820X in that test.

The 1800X's official MSRP is $469, which makes the 7820K about 28% more expensive, not 20%. However, if you wanted to buy right now, the 1800X can be had for $420. You also cannot disregard the rather hefty premium X299 demands over the AM4 platform.

I only welected the one sold directly by amazon or managed by them, if you're willing to go with Amazon marketplace there's a 1800X for 432€ and a 1600X for 236€.

They seem to be pretty close to most of the european prices.

My question regarding the X version is what to pick when I already have a Corsair 280mm AIO.

Not sure where you are getting your information from, but that is the whole point of the X series SKUs. They are binned higher and feature XFR for auto-overclocking. The non-X SKUs are still unlocked multipliers but do NOT have the Extended Frequency Range auto-overclocking feature that the X SKUs DO.

Here's a few sources, including a couple that were in attendance at today's event.

https://www.kitguru.net/components/cpu/luke-hill/kitguru-amd-event-ryzen-7-cpus-set-to-hit-intel-pricing-hard/

"That ‘X’ prefix denotes support for eXtended Frequency Range (XFR) which allows a number of the CPU’s cores to operate at up to 1 multiplier bin higher if thermal and power threshold budgets are not saturated"

"Ryzen 7 1700 – 8 cores, 16 threads, 3.0GHz base speed, 3.7GHz boost speed, no XFR support, 65W TDP, $329 USD, £319.99 OCUK price."

Techreport, who was also in attendance at the event today and went home with review samples lists these specs as part of what was announced at the event.

https://techreport.com/news/31471/amd-eight-core-16-thread-chips-lead-the-ryzen-charge

Model | Cores | Threads | Base Clock | Boost Clock | XFR | TDP | Price
------|---|----|----|----|----|----|----
Ryzen 1800X | 8 | 16 | 3.6GHz | 4.0GHz | Yes | 95W | $499
Ryzen 1700X | 8 | 16 | 3.4GHz | 3.8GHz | Yes | 95W | $399
Ryzen 1700 | 8 | 16 | 3.0GHz | 3.7GHz | No | 65W | $329

"The X in the product name (in this and other models) denotes the presence of the XFR technology (eXtended Frequency Range), allowing you to reach even higher frequencies in the presence of adequate cooling. XFR is just one of the technologies SenseMI" -> translated from: https://www.tomshw.it/ryzen-7-1800x-1700x-e-1700-specifiche-e-prestazioni-83576 in regards to information released by AMD at today's event.

All of this is from those who attended and official AMD specs released today. There is no question about it, that is literally what the "X" in the SKU denotes. XFR. This is all just a matter of hours old information, not "last week". You mention you take what people who attended have to say as priority, which of course makes sense. Only problem is that it is the exact opposite of what you're saying.

Also, the pre-order listings on sites like Amazon make this clear. For instance,

1800X: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B06W9JXK4G, clearly lists XFR on the product page

1700X: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B06X3W9NGG, clearly lists XFR on the product page

1700: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B06WP5YCX6, does not list XFR on the product page

On OCUK's product pages as well, XFR is listed as a spec on only the 1800X and 1700X product pages:

1800X: https://www.overclockers.co.uk/amd-ryzen-7-eight-core-1800x-4.00ghz-socket-am4-processor-retail-cp-39v-am.html

1700X: https://www.overclockers.co.uk/amd-ryzen-7-eight-core-1700x-3.80ghz-socket-am4-processor-retail-cp-39w-am.html

1700: https://www.overclockers.co.uk/amd-ryzen-7-eight-core-1700-3.70ghz-socket-am4-processor-retail-cp-39x-am.html

--> OCUK "'X' Version with automatic XFR overclocking"

Wha??

R7 1700 for $323.99

R7 1800X for $419.99

Are you canadian? In that case, yes that would be right, but in that case you could also go for Namibian Dollars and we would be talking about thousands of dollars we are saving ;)

u/MeCJay12 · 1 pointr/buildapc

Well I don't really know how you can sensibly use that whole budget. He's my recommendation for a bit less

Ryzan 7 1800X

Corsair H100i v2

Asus B350-F

Corsair 16GB 3200MHz RAM

So that is the high end Ryzen CPU. With that Mobo you can over clock and the liquid CPU cooler will keep it all cool. The ram is high clock so you get the best out of Ryzen.

u/MrK_HS · 1 pointr/Amd

I have mixed feelings about the turbo boost. By reading on wikipedia about turbo on the previous amd iterations, it's simply a frequency boost that happens for short periods of time on 1 core. It's really useful for single thread applications. However, it becomes confusing when on Amazon, for example, the 1800x is sold as having a frequency of 4ghz while in reality has 3.6ghz. At this point it just becomes a marketing thing.

Edit:

Here is the link to amazon

u/kramer425 · 1 pointr/buildapcforme

I built a PC a year ago, but I wish I waited a year for a 1800X for gaming/programming. It's 8core/16thread. Looks like you can get it for $457 including a liquid cooler. https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B06W9JXK4G/ref=cm_cr_arp_mb_bdcrb_top?ie=UTF8

The 1800X is available from Amazon (which will arrive sooner) just FYI

EDIT: Appears unavailable now / showing a two product combination. :|

u/M0O53 · 1 pointr/bapcsalescanada

Lol oops. I'm not exactly sure how my brain was running this morning or how it got to thinking this. But for some reason I thought you meant the 1800x when you were responding to the above comment about the 2700 X. Thus my lil rant about canada computers bs pricing.

Heres the link to the 1800x anyways lol. Everything I've seen researching the ryzen platform seems to claim the newer generation ryzen's only have a 10% increase in performance over the last so for the price difference between the two I wouldn't really see that as worth it unless like the guy you were responding to you can get the 2700x on sale.

Check the link for the string on the retail chips.

>As for the "2" in the model number, the first Zen/Naples leak I and many others reported on this year had the following string: 2S1451A4VIHE4_29/14_N.

That is a Server ES...which is completely different from a Desktop ES. DT chip strings start with 1, Z, or Y. Period.

>I'm not sure what you're trying to say here. The turbo clock for 2D2901AUM4KE4_33/29_N is 3.3GHz. Are you reading this wrong, somehow?

I may have the clocks backward...but you are still not explaining all the holes in this.

u/clupean · 1 pointr/buildapc

The prices in Europe usually include all taxes.

For example, the AMD Ryzen 1800X costs $499 in the US and 559.90€ in France. If you apply $499 + 20% VAT = $598.80 then convert to euros, you end up with 565.25€ (conversion rate at the time of this comment). So this processor is actually slightly cheaper in France.
