That classic “gateway grey” is kind of hard to find these days, but boring LED-free black office cases that secretly rule aren’t that hard to find. These boring sumbitches can contain reasonable to good computer parts, feature few to no decorative LEDS, and also look like a thing an adult might own.

A quieter case is probably the more sensible reaction. Something along the lines of an Antec Sonata or Fractal Design R5. Chassis design makes a huge impact on how much hard drive noise makes it out into the room.
antec sonata pronto isn't "huge" or on wheels but it's got a ton of drive bays for a midtower atx case, along with locks on side panel and front drive bay door. it also fits the 'old school' criteria, being a case design that's been around for over a decade (azn's has usb2, egg's is updated rev with usb3). https://pcpartpicker.com/product/hTh9TW/antec-case-sonataproto
the keywords you're looking for when searching for "conservative" styled, bigger, "huger" cases of a tower form factor would be: pedestal server. supermicro has several that might work for you, but you might need to swap out some fans for quieter or lower-rpm ones.
