Just go to the thrift store and pick up literally any screen for cheap. Ask them to plug it in and make sure that you see the "no input detected" logo to make sure that you're not picking up a screen that is broken, just like yours.

If you're looking for a new monitor of better resolution, you can try this. It's literally the cheapest thing I would reasonably buy off amazon. Speaking of amazon, holy

You probably don't want to spend more than $30 on a used monitor, because there are used versions of monitors on amazon for <$5. I just searched "Computer monitor" and sorted the price by "high to low." I'm not sure I would expect much from a $5 monitor, but if it floats your boat, go for it. Just realize that the shipping on something that cheap will often run you $30+. But hey, at least you can return it if it's broken, which most thrift stores won't let you do.

There are monitors that are smaller. It's just you are unlikely to find one at 1080p and under that resolution there are still few options because there is low demand. Here is one example and there are a few others on the market, just not at 1080p.

> I was thinking about getting a AOC E970SWN

This one? That's too small and has too bad a resolution. I'd look at http://www.amazon.de/LG-24MP47HQ-P-AEU-Monitor-D-Sub-Reaktionszeit/dp/B00Y81219K/, also with an IPS panel, but proper 1080p.

> I actually spoke to a friend about this and she recommended to use a 250gb internal SSD and a 1Tb external to save data on.

1TB internal would be better. External drives are normally slow because of how slow USB is. But if you already have a 500GB HDD you can try it with that at first. Windows and your Browser would go to the SSD, then switching the HDD later will be easy.

> The Radeon card you mentioned doesn't ship to Ireland via Amazon.

http://www.amazon.de/SAPPHIRE-NITRO-GDDR5-256bit-PCI-E/dp/B016EY8JMG/ is a possible alternative. Otherwise you should look for those cards at mindfactory, cyberport or caseking – a R9 380 with 4GB, or a R9 380X.

Your dad sounds like a confused man-child.

If you do some expert language manipulation you could convince them to get you a new monitor. Here's two relatively cheap monitors on Amazon you could have them look at. Don't forget, Christmas is right around the corner and it's never too late to guilt your parents into last minute shopping. Either that or try doing what I'm attempting and tell them instead of getting you gifts, you want one single item.

20 inch Monitor.

18.5 inch Monitor.
