Wait, I'm famous??? Lol
And I was recommended the Apeman Dash Cam. I'm just not sure if I want to spend the extra $50 to get the rear camera as well. But I'm a bit tight on budget and have been recommended this one as a good cheap dash cam. It has great reviews, as well.
Thanks, it’s an apeman dual dashcam. It has a rear view as well. I’ve been pleased with it so far.

Amazon APEMAN Dual Dash Cam
About 11,000yen-ish after import shipping and fees.
Dash cam is one of the best decisions you can make, trust me. Want to see someone calm the fuck down, point at your dash cam that’s recording in the front and back.
I have 3 of these. 2 in my personal cars and one in my work truck.

I installed this one after a drunk driver hit and ran my truck going the wrong way on an I-25 on ramp. https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B07GRV85NP/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I've been meaning to buy one for a while. This video spurred me into action. https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B07GRV85NP/ref=ox_sc_act_image_1?smid=A3EIWO8B4N47Q5&psc=1
I bought this one with the 128Gb card and mount. If someone rear ends because they're texting, eating, or reading a damn book, I want video proof so they incur any additional charges for distracted/reckless driving.
anyone have experience with apeman camera systems?

> The Apeman camera has a higher resolution, but I've never heard of the brand before,
Video resolution is just one factor, many other things go into determining video quality.
Also you should be weary of fly by night brands.

AUKEY Dual Dash Cam
Build quality/Parking mode/Video quality are the 3 main factors of what makes a good dash cam. Everything else is bells and whistles. I would be very wary if you did not get an accurate assessment on all 3 of these.

> Does anyone have experience with either of these cameras? Which one would you recommend I get?
Is what I would get.

Hmm, tech is very dependent on what he already has. If he's big into smart home things, I recently added a Nest Hub to my house and have been really loving it:
https://store.google.com/us/product/google_nest_hub?hl=en-US
It wouldn't be good if he has an Amazon Alexa ecosystem, though.
Another option is a nice dashcam for his car like this one:

Finally, as a non-tech option, I personally have wanted to learn lockpicking for years but just never think about it. If that's something you think they may be into, maybe something like this:

If you think that may be a good idea, it's probably a good idea to check out the lockpicking subreddit for more specific suggestions.
