We get these guys at work, nylon probe tool/spudger/black stick. I just take em home and use them for all kinds of things. You can get them online too.

  • Fondling the pins before installation (oils on hand, potential to bend a pin, generally just a bad idea, etc.)

  • No ESD protection

  • Using a metal screwdriver to pry up electrical connections (use a nylon spudger or other plastic tool)

    Among other things.

Do not put your faith in some wristband that could fail.

If that wristband fails for any reason, you may not know it. Then, assuming it's fine, you could shock the crap out of some old grandmother's HDD and lose all her photos.

Touch the casing prior to doing anything inside the machine and you'll be fine.

Also, get an Apple Nylon Probe/Spudger or 50.

They're worth their weight in gold when dealing with laptop casing or components you really don't want to poke with a finger or something.

It's as easy or as hard as you want to make it. Following the directions and building out of the box is very easy, and only takes a couple of hours at most. All you need for that is some clippers (well, I suppose technically you could use your fingers to pry the pieces off the frames, but that doesn't sound fun in any way).

I also found this weird thing useful for applying decals.

If you want to get into sanding, painting, highlighting, and all that stuff, then obviously that's more difficult, requires more tools, and takes more time. I'd recommend looking at /r/Gunpla if you're interested in any of that. But you don't have to do all that if you don't want to.
