I'd say what makes it uglier is all the writing and edges on the front of the case.
I got this case which was fairly cheap and has no distracting writing on the front so it blends in and makes it look less bulky.

It was actually pretty good. Never had any issues. It added a little bulk, but I was ok with it. Although now that it's off, I like the AW bare.
