Sure. I had a juice 4 times a day and drank water non-stop. Each Juice was 18 ounces. I used these bad boys to take the juice to work.

My morning juice was 2 tomatoes, a whole thing of spinach, celery, carrots, and a 1/4 lemon. Had this around 9AM every morning.

For lunch and an afternoon snack I would split a 36 ounce batch into 2 18 ounce bottles and have one around 12 and the other around 3 or 4PM. This batch contained: 1 whole thing of kale, one whole cucumber, 2 green apples, half a lemon, then i'd fill the remainder with carrots.

For dinner I sometimes cheated and ate (not juiced) a few oranges in addition to my juice. The juice was kind of a free for all at night. I would just put random veggies and fruits in and hope it turned out well. Don't think I had a single one that came out tasting very good. Ingredients I would experiment with were beets, cauliflower, brocolli, sweet potato, arugula, romaine lettuce, kiwi, pineapple, ginger, chard and i think that is pretty much it.

I'm off of the fast now. I'm still doing the same juice recipes/experiments but now for lunch I throw in a meat of some sort.

I have a probably unpopular view, but I have a centrifugal juicer and find that if I make juice then refrigerate it for 24 - 36 hours, it's fine. If it is unrefrigerated for any period of time, it starts to taste weird/gross. I know everyone says the nutrients dissipate or whatever after juicing, and oxidation is a problem, but I can only judge on taste (since I can't see the nutrients) and it's been fine for me.

I use these glass bottles ($29.99 on Amazon for 6 bottles) and then I usually put a bottle coozy (kind of like these) around the outside. It doesn't fit the cylidrical bottles perfectly, but it keeps them cooler than a plain glass bottle. I also recently bought this bag which I started using to transport my bottles at work, since I don't always have easy access to the fridge. I find that keeping them cool, in full containers and as air tight as possible means that they will EASILY last a day just fine.

I bought glass water bottles on Amazon because since getting pregnant I've been trying to avoid plastic, though these still have plastic lids. I'm also not normally a water drinker, so I wanted to make it as easy as possible. I too did not want to pour water into a glass and then add ice. Way too much trouble. I just wanted to grab-and-go from the fridge. You still have to go through the trouble of refilling them but just make your husband do it and then it's easier. haha

Looks like the price has gone up...

Also bought a set of these afterwards because they're so much bigger: http://waterfilters.mercola.com/water-bottles.aspx

OK, I will pimp my homemade green smoothie recipe. I have been using my new Blendtec to make these.

I bought these bottles from Amazon for the smoothies. I try to make them on Sunday; one batch is 6 bottles so it lasts you pretty much the whole week. I have varied the recipe a bit every time but have stuck with the same few base ingredients. I read a lot about them online and things to consider:

  • Calorie content
  • Fat content
  • Meal replacement or meal supplement?

If you use it as a supplement you don't need any calories or fat. If you drink it in place of a meal (I drink one and have a small lunch a few hours apart) you need some calories from fruit and some fat (avocado, coconut) so that your body doesn't go into a caloric shock from not having enough energy. I make 3 full 1000mL blender batches of produce and split them evenly between the 6 bottles. This entire recipe makes one batch of smoothies. You can modify the recipe to make one fresh daily but I found this too time consuming. One big blend session a week works perfect for me. The recipe is:

1 750mL bottle of carrot juice (to be used as liquid in all three blender mixes)

    Blender 1:

Fruit base (I have used 1/2 pineapple, 1 small papaya with seeds, or 6 kiwi.)

    1 jalapeno

    3-4 cloves of garlic

    3-4 medium sticks of ginger

    Blender 2:

    1 orange

    1 baby kale salad

    1 bunch parsley

    1 banana, optional

    Blender 3:

    2 bunches green onions

    1 avocado

    6 limes, juiced

3-4 ounces of frozen wheat grass juice

The jalapeno, garlic, ginger, and parsley give the drink some nice spice while the fruit and lime juice give a nice sweet & tart mix. The baby kale is a bit less bitter than adult kale. Lately I’ve been using papaya because it has edible seeds that are nutrient dense. They taste like black pepper which is fine for this smoothie because it’s half savory. I have added a second avocado to make it more creamy. Really you can do anything, the above is just what I have done the most and is a recipe that I know works well.

I have a similar story, in that I got hooked on disposable water bottles and tried to replicate the experience without the waste.

In the end, I went with Aquasana 18oz glass water bottles. They seal great with a rubber gasket in the lid, and they're very sturdy. If you care, you can get silicone sleeves for them too, or the borosilicate glass bottles they make, but I haven't tried either of those products myself so I can't comment on them; I've only used the basic bottles.

For me, I found that the key wasn't just portable, screw-top bottles, but LOTS of bottles that are COLD. So, I needed a solution that involved multiple bottles, with a few always in the fridge getting cold. At this point, I have 12+ bottles: 2 in the fridge, and more filled bottles near the fridge. I replace the cold ones whenever I take one out. Every night I wash the used bottles from the day in the dishwasher, and the next morning I fill the empty clean bottles back up. This system ensures that I always have cold bottles of water, and I don't have to bother refilling them when I want some water in a hurry. And, my wife and I drink water fast enough that I don't worry about the time the water sits out of the fridge.

As of this posting, they're on sale for about half-off on Amazon; I took advantage of that and bought 12 more, just in case someday they break and I need replacements. I've only had one break over the last 3 years, though (I was not being careful over a concrete floor).
