Edit: this old gal hits better than I remembered, I take back what I said. [3]
Ok, I'll hit you guys with the how-to, why not.

First the bottle itself. This is the bigger one, they make a smaller version too which would be a nice stealth toke imo. Anyway it's Bong Spirits Vodka. The Vodka itself is just meh imo, but good enough for it's purpose.

To those asking, yes there is a spot to drill where the hole is now. When you buy the bottle it has a little plastic thing over it. Much to my dismay, this wasn't a cork and you have to drill it. Thankfully there is a rim around it so you can get a nice place for your bit to sit. The drill bit I used I got off ebay, a 20mm diamond tipped hole saw.

Fill the bottle with water, fill a deep pot with water. Drill the glass with VERY VERY VERY slow RPM's, or you WILL crack the glass. Seriously, take your time or buy another $30 bottle. Another piece of advice, don't get exact. I decided to trim it smoother with the bit and caused a fracture. (thankfully it's enough to leak or cause other issues)

Next is the top. The plastic is surprisingly annoying. I did it with a drill bit, and smoothed it with a dremel sander. Some people elect not to use the top, I think it looks better and is more functional.

For the etching, I used something called Armour Etch cream. Its really think, and really nasty. Basically you mask off (or frisk off) what you don't want etched. Once done, apply the cream with a foam brush. You have to use a lot of it, and truthfully it doesn't always cover all that well. There are a few spots I see on it now, but maybe i was sloppy.

Anyway, that's it. The absolute worst part is the drilling. I was hoping for a pineapple stencil but I couldn't find one. As far as how this thing hits, I'd say ok for what it is. It's not my favorite, but it does the job. They also have much cooler bottles than my plain one, you might not even need to etch.

Based on buying thing separate it is an OK deal. You can get just the Cricut Mint Explore Air 2 Machine on Amazon for $213 with free shipping. Are the extras worth $37? That is the big question. Metallic Pen set is $10.17 stand alone on Amazon. The adhesive sheets are about $11. The iron on sample is $16.50. Buying everything separate would cost about the same. So, it is not that great of a deal if you don't want the accessories that come in the bundle.

I personally wouldn't use the pens. I would get a roll of transfer tape (https://www.amazon.com/Cricut-2002363-Vinyl-Transfer-Tape/dp/B00LJV1KYO/) and regular sheets of adhesive vinyl. It depends on the use or what you plan on making. I love the stencil sheets (https://www.amazon.com/Cricut-2002685-Stencil-Vinyl/dp/B00XC1YDMU/) combined with etching creme (https://www.amazon.com/Armour-Etch-2-8-Oz-Cream/dp/B0001DTWYG/) to make awesome custom glassware.

I won't be around for the next few hours, so I wanted to preemptively answer a few questions I thought people might have about this.

  • The stencil is one I made. It's pretty straightforward and I learned almost everything I know from /r/stencils (the sidebar is FULL of great links). I'm working on some tutorials of my own at the moment to share exactly how I do things, too.

  • The etching process is the hardest part. I used adhesive vinyl, but I've heard that contact paper is pretty good, too. When I first starting learning how to etch glass, I got away with packing tape as a base. Essentially you want to cover your glass and cut out (weed) the pieces you want etched. With vinyl you cut your design first and use transfer paper to get it on the glass. When you're all set, apply some Armour Etch (or your etching cream of choice) liberally and let it set for 10 minutes. Rinse off with water and you're done!

  • I recently started trying to run my Etsy store full time, so I am selling these. If you're interested, the general store link is here and the link to this glass is here.

Thanks! I hope you liked the glass.

Response from my brother:
"The glasses were chemically etched with a stencil. I used this ammonium bifluoride paste from Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0001DTWYG/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pC_nS_ttl?_encoding=UTF8&colid=Y8HS2RKMC1LE&coliid=IBLT859MJPB2K

The images are from the titanfall website, but I made vector versions of them."

I asked for the vectors, so when he sends them I'll add a link.

I buy mine locally at Michael's craft store, otherwise it's available on Amazon, and other online retailers.

I wonder if you couldn't just use something like this to etch the inside of a glass and get similar results.

Are you planning on having the design etched into the glass (like the picture you provided) or do you actually want it cut in? If you just want it etched, it might be easier, or at least cheaper in large quantities, for you to etch the glass yourself. It's as simple as cutting a stencil out of clear adhesive sheets, sticking it on to the glass, painting on etching compound, letting it sit for a minute, and washing it off. Should cost you less than $10 for enough materials to etch probably four or five glasses.

As for designs, maybe check out the MLP-VectorClub. They have a large selection of ponies without backgrounds that you could work from.

Did you consider doing a chemical etch with something like this http://www.amazon.com/Armour-Etch-RECOMMENDED-CLEANING-GLASSES/dp/B0001DTWYG

I used this to frost names onto beer glasses and it works wonderfully. It actually eats away at the glass, so you don't have to worry about it rubbing off. Plus, it's readily available at Walmart and most craft stores.

To help keep them straight, you can etch labels on the glass with hydrofluoric acid. It's relatively easy to use and clean up is pretty easy too. I've been having fun with mine...cutting bottles and etching them.

My favorite cheap gift is to go to the dollar store, get a couple classy-looking wine glasses, and custom etch some designs on them with this stuff: http://www.amazon.com/Armour-Etch-Cream-3-oz/dp/B0001DTWYG

Get some blue painter's tape, put some on the glass, trace out some Celtic knots or some shit, and cut out the design with an X-acto knife. The put the etching cream on there for 5 minutes. Rinse it off, remove the tape stencil, and wash the glass. One-of-a-kind gift in about an hour+ per glass, depending on the intricacy of your stencil.

If you're a student, you can sign up for Amazon Student and get Amazon Prime benefits for free for 6 months. Then your 3oz bottle of Armour Etch is $10.83 on Amazon with free shipping.

I have Amazon Prime. I'd order it for you, but I crochet, so having something knit doesn't really do anything for me =/

I used something like this in the past to etch a bottle, I just coated the whole thing and it ends up frosted:

https://www.amazon.com/Armour-Etch-2-8-Oz-Cream/dp/B0001DTWYG

It looks like there is also spray paint finish you can use for it, which might be cheaper.

Actually, yes!

I was just reading someone talking about a similar subject, and they said they had excellent results with using Armour Etch.

Now, unless you cut out a careful mask for the bottles, there is going to be a little glass etching going on along with paint removal, but from what I understand, if you just want the logo off, it works like a charm.

I’m sure you could easily make one with some masking tape and some of this and you could even customize I️t
