In contrary to popular belief, the PC performance issues in both Assassin’s Creed Odyssey and Origins aren’t caused by DRM techniques, but by a way too conservative resource ceiling for textures.

“It has a much too conservative resource ceiling for textures”, says SpecialK “The engine loads, then unloads and later reloads the same assets hundreds of thousands of times over the course of an hour. All the while, VRAM is only ever 25% filled on my GTX 1080 Ti and none of that nonsense is necessary.”

Even without the rabates, it's going for the same price as this one, and unless you have a really small mITX case the STRIX is a better choice.

u/Odayon · 6 pointsr/buildapcsales

The warehouse has two options for the Asus Strix GTX1080 right now. This one has the original packaging and comes out to $508.03 before tax. The one without the packaging would be cheaper, naturally. You have to add to cart and begin the checkout process to see the final price.

It's the ASUS ROG Strix GTX 1080 8GB mounted on a mini ITX board

Hi r/hardwareswap Before I begin all prices are negotiable as long as you are buying a decent amount of parts and shipping is not included in price but we can figure that out later.

Also before I begin with the sale I am willing to trade all or most parts to whoever can offer a Asus Strixx GTX 1080. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01K5F8MJK/ref=twister_B01JBD39EA?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1 As my parts are not that expensive and I am withholding a few more valuable parts for sale. This only applies to those with a 1080.

I am willing to sell/trade my RX-480, HD 7870, and i5-2400 along with cash and the parts listed for a Asus Strixx GTX 1080. That is only if you have it.

Now for the sale!

Last time I saw a price this low was back during Cyber Monday. I got this for $560, with $20 rebate ($540)

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01K5F8MJK/

My advice? IF you really want a 1080 then you should wait 2.5 more months for the this year's Black Friday/Cyber Monday sales. I dont think they'll be priced at $540 again like last year.

u/Jason6677 · 2 pointsr/bapcsalescanada

The 1080 strix is one of the cheaper 1080s on newegg and amazon, is this normal? I thought it was one of the more expensive ones. Amazon lists it as a sale (I think?) but it's been like that for a while. Mike's also says 799.99 is the non sale price.. I only recently got into GPU shopping about a week ago, so I'm not sure what prices are supposed to be.

u/burn-blue · 2 pointsr/pcmasterrace

Reference cards are sexy but 3rd part versions improve temps and performance, get an ASUS or Gigabyte model.

I might as well give you another opinion, as long as you know that is all it is.

Well I'm sure that is part of my problem I'll update it in a moment.

One of the grouping I'm starting to look at is
Processor I7

Mother Board

Ram

GPU If I can't do the Ti depending on price.

u/Dark_24 · 1 pointr/buildapc

both of those are GTX 1080's no ti's in that list..

Of these 2 the ASUS GeForce GTX 1080 8GB ROG STRIX is by far the better card..

Founders cards run hotter and not as well as the Board Partner cards.. Go with the ASUS GeForce GTX 1080 8GB ROG STRIX

Be aware tha the ASUS GeForce GTX 1080 8GB ROG STRIX lost price listed from amazon on that card was $512 on black friday and has been cheaper over the past months..

Is there really a difference between GTX 1080s? I saw This One for $559 after sale and rebate vs. This One for $620 after rebate. That seems like a pretty large difference. I can see that their core clock speeds are different but can the first one be manually overclocked seeing as it's an "overclocked" version already? Or is that the max clock it's going to get? Why the large price difference?

Sorry, yeah compared to something like this (https://www.amazon.com/ASUS-GeForce-STRIX-Graphic-STRIX-GTX1080-O8G-GAMING/dp/B01K5F8MJK?th=1) - I'm guessing this is the 3 fan board? I'm only asking because of the sale on the hybrid, bringing it down to the price of these other GPUs.

I watched the video and it seems to be a pretty cool GPU but not sure if the case I'm going to get will have the room. Just a pretty standard mid ATX case. Will it just be a case-to-case basis?

Thanks for making the build /u/pcOnBudget, and sorry for making you betray your username!

Few questions, any difference beteween that GPU and the ROG version? [Amazon has the ROG version for about $70 cheaper.]
(https://www.amazon.com/ASUS-GeForce-STRIX-Graphics-STRIX-GTX1080-A8G-GAMING/dp/B01K5F8MJK/ref=sr_1_1?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1480376251&sr=1-1&keywords=gtx+1080) Also, is SuperBiz reputable? Never heard about them or their customer service, while Amazon on the other hand is supposed to be among the best. Or versus this MSI card from Newegg ($60 cheaper)? You just going by the OC? Are factory OCs inherently more stable?

Also, I don't know a lot about M.2 SSDs, but I've read some (opinion) articles that say for the end user, they won't really be able to tell a difference, and even when it should be performing better, that the difference is negligable because both an M.2 and SATA SSD would be limited by the bottleneck of the drive their writing too or reading from. What's your opinion on that?

I'm not doubting you, you obviously know more than me. I'm just trying to understand and give myself piece of mind before making this very large order. I still plan to post the build once in the next draft to /r/buildapc to see their opinion before taking the plunge.

Asus sells like 3 different strix cards, physically theyre all identical and the cooler/binning process is the same so they all have the same oc potential. They just give some a factory overclock which I find rather misleading because youc can just overclock any of them yourself and the higher clock ones sell for more....

If your computer could use a Gtx 1070 it could use a Gtx 1080 -- provided you have adequate available power cables from your PSU (power supply).

Have you looked into your power supply to make sure it'll run a GPU? If your computer was a prebuilt it might need some parts to make that work.

Here is the card I use.

u/PieOnTheGround · 1 pointr/buildapc

I don't think that many miners have a Prime account on Amazon (correct me if I'm wrong). Additionally, if they start focusing on the 1080's, basically the whole mid- to high-end GPU market, at least on a gamer's perspective, is fucked. This (https://www.amazon.com/ASUS-GeForce-STRIX-Graphics-STRIX-GTX1080-A8G-GAMING/dp/B01K5F8MJK/ref=sr_1_2?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1498065043&sr=1-2&keywords=strix%2Bgtx%2B1080&th=1) is a good card that you can nab right now, and since it's a Prime-exclusive target, it might not be a "prime" target (kms) for miners.

Hi, I'm completely clueless on computers.

I have a Spectre x360 with 16GB of RAM and Vega M GL graphics: https://store.hp.com/us/en/pdp/hp-spectre-x360-15-ch012nr

I'm currently getting 90 FPS at 1080p on low settings on Overwatch, which I'm happy with. However, I was hoping to get an eGPU setup so that I can:

a) Hit 144 FPS at low settings on 1080p for Overwatch

b) Record/Stream Overwatch gameplay for self review (ideally 1080p at 60 FPS, but can accept 720p at 30 FPS)

My main priority is getting guaranteed/consistent performance, and my second priority is a little bit of future proofing (e.g. play single player games like Cyberpunk 2077, Red Dead Redemption, at 1080p 60 FPS on a Low/Medium). I'm looking to get advice on what eGPU and GPU to buy, and if it makes sense to wait for Black Friday/Cyber Monday to buy.

I'm currently looking at the Razer Core X for the eGPU and either the GTX 1070 or GTX 1080.

Razer Core X ($299) https://www.amazon.com/Razer-Core-Thunderbolt-External-Enclosure/dp/B07CQG2K5K/ref=sr_1_2?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1538542397&sr=1-2&keywords=razer+core+x

Other people may have slightly differing opinions on the specific card, but as long as its a 1080 it'll be pretty top tier.

Grab the Asus ROG 1080 if you have a VR setup. One of the few cards that give you 2x HDMI 2x DP ports as opposed to the standard 1x HDMI 3x DP. Also includes an RGB LED that allows you to colorize it by temperature.

It's quite the beast of a card, though. Barely fits a mid-ATX case.
