Fair enough. However, Amazon and NewEgg reviews tell a more complete story. Those are for the same motherboard I had, and they're barely holding on to 3-star reviews, with a ton of problems experienced between a total of 76 people in the short time it's been out.

If you want to go with Asus, go with Asus. It doesn't affect me either way. I just want you to be fully aware of the situation going in so you can make an informed decision. It's nothing more than that. :-)

Alright, so I have reworked my machine and am way over my budget now (including my prepaid GFX card, it's at $3500), I don't care about the price if the performance of this machine will be amazing.

Highlights are that I got a full aluminum loop for my water cooling from ek's aluminum line. I have heard the horror stories of aluminum, but at a cheaper price and a little over 100 units less heat conductivity for $200 less than the copper loop (and I couldn't even find a backplate for the gfx block, but the kit provides an Al CPU and GPU cooler with an awesome backplate for $365), the Al line will let me keep this machine below $4000. From forums I read and the videos I watched, they said the issues usually arise when mixing aluminum with other metals, and the loop is 100% aluminum. I purchased addidional tubing, another 240+40 mm rad for recooling the water before it goes to my CPU, and a fluid tank mount.

If I am going big, the machine needs to make unicorn barf if I want it to, so I am keeping the RGB fans, they are about 100 bucks more than Vardar fans.

Got rid of the i7-8700k and got the Intel Core i9-7900X Processor
, a 10 core CPU clocked at 4.2 GHz, 4.5 max. I remember an LTT video discussing how Intel launched these on a fluke just to combat something from AMD, and this is why I was skeptical about using this line of CPUs at first. Since you told me that a 10+ core processor would be better for my work and it would still be good for gaming, I went with the i9.

Needed an x299 mobo, I was watching overclocking guides for the i9 series CPUs, the videos said to get motherboards with robust heat syncs and 2 EPS12v connectors, so I went with the ASUS PRIME X299-DELUXE LGA2066 DDR4 M.2 U.2 THUNDERBOLT 3 USB 3.1 X 299 ATX Motherboard with Dual Gigabit LAN and 802.11AD WIFI for Intel Core X-Series Processors. It is a really beautiful mobo and I think it has the specs needed for overclocking an i9. I don't want to fry anything.

I got 4 sticks of Corsair CMR64GX4M4C3200C16 VENGEANCE RGB 64GB (4x16GB) DDR4 3200 (PC4-25600) C16 Desktop Memory
since the new mobo has 8 slots. I don't want to go with just 32 gigs because I want the ability to upgrade to 128 without repurchasing an entire ram kit.

Finally, the PSU. I saw that an overclocked 10+ core processor can pull as much as 500 watts, so I upgraded to an 850 watt PSU. EVGA SuperNOVA 850G2 850W Power Supply

I want all black cables, now I just need to sort out what cables I need and the cheapest/best place to get them. I also want those little thingies that make them perfectly aligned.

Edit: when re-reading this I said I "got" these parts, I didn't buy them yet, I just added them to my parts list.
