My mistake.

You'd have to go lower than 3440x1440 to get over 100hz.

I had a 29" 2560x1080 display and any bigger has very poor pixel density. A 34" 2560x1080 would be, at least to my eyes, very unpleasant to look at.

That's entirely up to you and what you value.

What sucks is that there are no 1440p ultrawide+ 144hz monitors.

Before you decide to get rid of your current monitor I'd recommend trying out a 144Hz monitor at Frys, Microcenter, or somewhere, make sure it's set up properly and see how important that improved responsiveness and smoothness is for you.

If you really enjoy the ultrawide aspect ratio, have an AMD GPU or don't care about adaptive-sync, and can afford a pricey purchase then I'd absolutely recommend the Samsung C34F791 VA 1440p 100Hz ultrawide at just under $1k USD.

A similar IPS monitor with G-sync instead is this ASUS ROG PG348Q at $1,100.

There are plenty of TN and IPS 16:9 1440p 144Hz+ monitors for you to choose from if you don't care about the aspect ratio as much.

You could also just run two monitors if you want.

Absolutely. IMO this is way better than a 4k display since having an ultrawide aspect ratio and getting a way wider field of view in games (and also more screen space to work with) is hugely more noticeable than just having everything be a bit sharper. Also it goes to 100hz which is way better than 60 that 4k monitors run at. Keep in mind though, these high end ultrawides are using bleeding edge tech so there can be some quality control issues. Most common with the X34 is backlight bleed in the corners (really only noticeable on a black background) and inability to hold 100hz without flickering. It's been out long enough that as long as your monitor was manufactured recently it shouldn't be an issue. Just keep it in mind in case you have to exchange it. All of the monitors with similar specs have their own QC issues that shouldn't be a good deal as long as you don't get a shit sample.

Other similar monitors are the:

asus pg348q - identical panel, just different casing, stand, and OSD. Basically just choose the cheaper one since they're so similar.

hp omen x35 - it's a bit bigger than the asus and acer, has a steeper curve, and doesn't have the backlight bleed issues, but the panel is VA so the colors aren't as vibrant, and there's issues reported with flickering at 100hz, and image ghosting. I've seen a few people say they preferred the x34 to the omen, but this may depend on which pros and cons you weight more heavily.

AOC Agon AG352UCG - Identical panel to the omen, with all the same pros and cons. This monitor is to the omen what the x34 is to the pg348q. This one seems to be cheaper than all the other 3 (unavailable on amazon for the moment but I saw them on sale a few days ago), so for a budget option it's excellent. It basically makes the omen irrelevant since it doesn't justify the extra cost.

There's also the Acer x34p which is the next generation x34. It has a few nice improvements like a steeper curve, better OSD controls, no more glossy plastic surface, and a native 100hz (rather than an OC 100hz). Hopefully better QC as well. They've delayed it like 4 times and there's still no solid release date, but maybe by the time you've saved up it will be released?

Here is a nice review of the x34 to watch in the mean time. It literally delivers every spec I've been looking for in a monitor. I've seen some pretty nice sales on it, especially on refurb models so just keep your eyes open. Join us at /r/ultrawidemasterrace :) this monitor is a favorite over there so you'll see a lot of people talking about it, and just how great playing games in 21:9 is in general. To add a little more weight to my recommendation, gabe newell and terry crews are both using x34's (terry has 2 of them lol).

Well, you have a few options. Depending on your price range, you can go with 2560x1080 which come in 25" (don't bother), 29" (sweet spot for ppi, same as 24"/25" 16:9 monitors), 34", or 35" (specifically the z35 for g-sync or xz35 for freesync). Benefit of 2560x1080 is being able to generally saturate the max refresh rate of your monitor, given the gpu you have and are going to buy. Only downside I can think of is with making such a long-term purchase as a monitor, you're "only" getting 1080p, but I don't really see that as an issue as others might. Also, most of these monitors only go up to 75hz, only the very high end cards reach any higher, and those are usually either g-sync for the acer x34 which goes to 100hz @ 1440p or the acer (x)z35 which goes to I think 144hz @ 1080p.

There are also 3440x1440 monitors and those usually only come in 34". I can't think of any other sizes, someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Also, do you want curved or not? I don't have an ultrawide but I've been researching them for a couple years now and I think it comes down to the size of the monitor. I think 25" and 29" ultrawides are fine for being flat, since they're only so wide but once you get into 34" territory, it would be such a large screen that it is beneficial to have the curve, which is pretty much what the market really offers: no curved 25" or 29" and most, if not all, 34" are curved. The curve helps keep the same distance from each edge of the screen to your eyes the same. These do come at a higher price, though.

Prices for each respective size

25" uncurved for $167.26 from LG with Amazon prime (though I don't recommend this size).
29" uncurved for $286.99, has freesync up to 75hz (my personal suggestion for a 1080p ultrawide, same vertical height as a 24" monitor).

34" Now there are many options in the 34" class ranging anywhere from ~$700 all the way up to $1300.
We have the Acer XZ35 35" curved 1080p @ 144hz, freesync, $749.99, amazon prime.
The G-sync brother of the above, the Acer Z35, 35" curved 1080p @ 144hz, $975.99
34" LG 34UC88, curved 1440p @ 75hz, freesync for $840.99.
34" Acer XR341CK, curved 1440p @ 75hz, freesync, $848.75.
34" G-sync brother of the above, Acer X34 Predator, curved 1440p @ 100hz, $1,199.00, Amazon prime.
The most expensive ultrawide monitor currently, barring massive business monitors, the 34" Asus PG348Q, curved 1440P @ 100hz, g-sync only (no freesync alternative that I know of), $1,299.00, Amazon prime.

I could go on about the ppi of the monitors and all the little details, but I feel like this post has pretty much most of the important details listed out. Absolutely. An IPS display at that resolution will look noticeably better than your current monitor and you'll still be able to get 60+ fps with G-Sync in games if you tweak settings. That's a huge upgrade.

That being said, I've been looking to get a new monitor recently and haven't pulled the trigger on anything. Currently sitting with a 27" 1440p 60hz main (no g-sync or anything). Tried out the ASUS PG348Q and let me tell you...

Rocket League in ultrawide at 100fps is BUTTER. Also have used a 4k 60hz G-SYNC display and that is unreal.

"What's next" is really tempting to hold out for...but then you have to look at its cost along with the associated GPU upgrade cost that would be necessary to really utilize that real estate and it becomes a little far fetched, especially with a budget under a grand.

I love how we're at the point where you can ask if a 2560x1440p 144hz G-SYNC/FreeSync monitor would be a "worthy upgrade" and there actually be other options to give you pause.

The Acer Predator X34 would be a better purchase since it has GSync and is 100 Hz if you overclock it. This ASUS monitor runs 100 Hz out of the box, but is a little more expensive.

Yes, you can have a 40" 4K and need to move your head to look all over the screen, or a 30" and have a bunch of things out of your vision that you need to shift your focus over to look at.

Monitors are all personal preference. I have a 29" Ultrawide and I sometimes miss things on the sides of the screens.. specifically the minimap and health panel in HotS. I sit 2' away for reference.

Very surprised Blizzard even supported 21:9 in HotS, considering their past, and current history, regarding 21:9 monitors. (aka "they're cheating".. even in a PvE game like D3)

If you want extremely fast response times, you get a 16:9 TN panel. If you want great FoV and solid colors, you get a 21:9 IPS panel. Gaming 21:9 monitors are quite expensive though.. even ASUS' new 240Hz 16:9 monitor is under half the price of the X34 or ASUS' equivelent.

For me personally, I'll never go back to 16:9. It's a completely inferior aspect ratio.. as it was back before it very sadly took over 16:10.

I would pass on that LG, the resolution isn't going to push your 2080ti much at all. If you're set on ultra-wide, I'd go with this instead This might be (totally is) the best ultra-wide monitor on the planet. Pricey but its simply stunning.

Personally, I don't think ultra-wide is worth it. If you think you can go without it, and would love to save yourself a few hundred dollars, check out this monitor... 1440p 165hz, it is incredible

4K monitors don't go above 60Hz currently. 100+ fps looks so much better than 60 fps. You could do 4K with a single gtx 1080 or 1070, but you'd be turning down settings to get to 60 fps. 1440p 144 Hz monitors are getting cheaper. The resolution is much better than 1080p and you can get higher refresh rates. As of now, 1440p is the way to go imo. I have a QNIX QX2710 and it overclocks to 100Hz. They can be bought for $220 right now on ebay.

I've never had to research an ultra-wide, so don't know myself, but it looks like these options that are near the top:

Dell Aleinware 34" 3440x1440p 120 Hz IPS monitor

Acer X34 Predator 34" 3440x1440p 120Hz IPS monitor

AOC Agon AG352UCG 35" 3440x1440p 100Hz VA monitor

Asus ROG PG348Q 34" 3440x1440p 100Hz IPS monitor

All 3 have G-sync, and nearly comparable specs. Some websites have rated the Alienware as the best ultrawide, while others have rated the X34. Problem is, they're pricey as hell on Amazon (pretty much twice the price of 27" 1440p monitors!), and I don't know many other websites that sell them for cheaper. You'll need to do a bit of research if you want to buy them at a good price. Probably check local stores, or contact the company websites directly if you don't have any local stores.

I have actually been doing a lot of research on this lately, though my research was more of whether to go ultra wide, or triple monitor. From my research:

4K is not a good option for anyone, what you gain in resolution is nowhere near worth what you lose in performance. It is both tougher to handle for your GPU, and also can only support up to a 60hz refresh rate, which is /not/ where you want to be for a game like this.

1440p, 27" is probably the way to go if you want the best gaming performance for a single monitor. You're going to get awesome resolution, and that will come with a lighting fast 144 hz (165 hz OC) refresh rate. It is going to be smooth and beautiful. If you can afford it, get a monitor with G-sync (assuming you have an Nvidia card) for extra smoothness.

If you want to really get awesome immersion out of a single monitor, go for an ultrawide. You'll probably want 1440p, since the increased aspect ratio can actually look a bit worse if you only get the 1080p, than a 1080p in the 16:9 aspect ratio. The best refresh rate you can get right now is 100 hz (120 hz OC), but most people I think would tell you that 100 hz is plenty (whereas most people would tell you that 60 hz noticeably harms FPS).

If you don't mind a little bezel, and money and desk space are not limiting factors, get a triple 27" 1440p 144hz monitor setup. You will have the best immersion and most utility for other sorts of productivity. Note the money aspect also includes the fact that you need a top GPU (probably 2 in SLI to really get the best FPS out of this setup).

If you absolutely only care about the beauty of your picture, and you don't intend to get in much combat so the FPS hit isn't a big deal, then 4K may actually be right for you.

Though I have a nice GPU (980 ti), I only have one, and don't want to get a second in SLI when I plan to just upgrade to the 2-years-ish from now generation when I start to feel the age of this one. I also have a limited deskspace to work with. Because of those factors, I don't think triple monitor is right for me. Because I want to increase the immersive feeling, I feel that then ultra wide is going to be the best option for me. Through research, the top two monitors are the one I linked and the Acer Predator x34. You can't go wrong with either.

Curved monitors are usually the ultrawide ones. I don't think there are 4K UW monitors yet but 2K yes (although they are expensive) I currently have the Asus PG348 3440x1440 at 100hz refresh rate. (price around 800$-1200$).

It would probably be better to go with a 24-27" 144Hz with G-Sync imo as you are already used to a 24 it will still be a big upgrade.

I just got the stand installed and I'm loving how organized and clean it looks, I still have to do some cable management in a little bit but so far this is just what I was expecting it to look/feel. G-sync is variable refresh rate which will match your FPS. That way you get no tearing ever. If you are looking for top dog status, (which lets be honest you are) then the Asus ROG PG348Q is what you are looking for, 34" ultrawide, 1440, with G-sync.

Anyone recommend a good Ultrawide monitor?

I'm looking to upgrade my monitor. Currently I'm on 2560x1080 at 60Hz. I'm pretty married to the Ultrawide, but it seems to be a bit of a niche market that's hard to find the right model in.

My suggestion, buy a monitor that will challenge graphic cards for the next 4-6 years. In this case, I think the minimum to aim for would be 1440p/144hz. This way your current card and your next card won't be limited by your panel.

Bit of a tangent:

I stretch monitor upgrades to 4-6 years. I was rocking a BenQ 1080/60 panel since 2009 and before that a 720p TV that had a VGA cable for a few years. My current panel was gifted to me by my wife(Bless her). It's an LG 34UM67 (Ultrawide 1080p 75hz Freesync) but I was planning to upgrade to an ASUS 34" ultrawide which would of "future proofed" me for 4ish years like I usually aim for... She through a kink into my plans with the surprise upgrade but it's been great. I'll hold onto it until 21:9, 1440p, 144hz Freesync is available.

You said $3000 was only for the computer but you could easily spend around $2000 and still have enough horsepower to drive a high res monitor.

Looking for some recommendations on what I should upgrade to support UWHD gaming. I'm not playing anything super demanding right now, just some FFXIV, but I did just pick up Monster Hunter World and I know I'll want to play Cyberpunk when that releases.

Definitely consider picking up a ultrawide monitor if it's within your budget. The game supports ultriwide gameplay, though cutscenes will be standard width. It makes a lot of trials way easier, to see what is going on.
