The 2070 max-q is worse than a regular 2070 (laptop), however, This is a thin and light which is where the premium comes from in price.

I bought the 1070 max-q version when it first came out for about the same amount and while I loved it, there are better comparable options for this newer line.

Get an Asus zephyrus 2070 instead. It has the full laptop 2070 and better thermals.

I recommend this one better:

https://www.amazon.com/Zephyrus-Portable-GeForce-i7-9750H-GX502GW-XB76/dp/B07SN353GT

It’s called GX502GW, it has a full rtx 2070 unlike that 2080MQ. Moreover this is much newer than the one you link.
Wait for a sale for this one!

At that price, you need to get a full blown rtx card instead of MQ.

Also ASUS are known to be amazing but really really loud. Then again most gaming laptops are inherently loud.

Can't help you there as I have the same issue on my Windows machine.

My 2013 Mac Pro (base model) runs smooth as butter while my ROG Zephyrus stutters like crazy regardless of graphics settings.

Not many gaming laptops come with 240Hz, but out of the ones that does I would go with this one.

im in the same boat. I have narrowed my choice down to 2 i think.

either a 15" razer blade with a 2070maxQ

or this

The asus is cheaper for me and has better specs but the battery life is terrible and i have heard mixed opinions on the decibel level of the fans under load, some say it gets very loud

Hi, if you want a hybrid between battery life and performance as well as G-SYNC, the ASUS ROG Zephyrus S GX502GW might be the laptop you're looking for. 76Wh battery, 240Hz G-SYNC, and RTX 2070.

To follow up on this, I ended up buying this: https://www.amazon.com/Zephyrus-Portable-GeForce-i7-9750H-GU502GW-AH76/dp/B07VF88TMR/ref=sr_1_4?keywords=rog+zephyrus&qid=1575133214&smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER&sr=8-4

For $1750 during the black friday sales. Signed up for the Amazon prime feel trial and credit card in order to save another ~$180 ($100 gift card for the credit card intro offer, and 5% cash back). Haven't received it yet.

While researching laptops my wants changed a little bit. I noticed the clevo vendors don't have international warranties, while ASUS, MSI, and Gigabyte do, and that's kinda important to me due to traveling.

Also I decided I cared more about thickness and weight than I thought I did.

So this one kinda checked all the boxes except the graphics is maybe a little weaker than I wanted (but still massive improvement over my current 960m...) and I wish it had a DP port and Thunderbolt.

I was hoping this one would come down more in price since it has the full 2070, G-Sync, and Windows pro: https://www.amazon.com/ASUS-Zephyrus-Portable-i7-9750H-GX502GW-XB76/dp/B07SN353GT/ref=sr_1_4?keywords=rog+zephyrus+s&qid=1575133619&s=electronics&sr=1-4

But it remained above my budget. I almost convinced myself to buy it anyway, but not quite.
