Go for your dream laptop then:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B07532Y2LL/ref=dp_olp_all_mbc?ie=UTF8&condition=all
1356$ refurbished.
There's a slight chance it will have some problems, but then you can send it back and have your money back. Or drop 2 hundred buck more and get it new.

Take a look here if you don't mind refurbished laptops.

This ASUS ZenBook Pro UX550VE-DB71T would be an excellent pick based on what you are looking for.. The battery life, build quality as well as the performance power are all there and of course, with it's 1050 graphics card, it will run Overwatch excellently. It is also pretty thin and light weighted and you will love it's all metal chassis. You could also look at the Aero 15 but that might be too much power for what you want.

Please check out the following laptops:

Best from HP
https://www.amazon.com/HP-i7-7700HQ-Processor-solid-state-15-cb079nr/dp/B075VT9LFC/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1522026601&sr=8-2&keywords=hp+pavilion+power

Powerful laptop from dell, but bit heavier than HP
http://www.microcenter.com/product/487758/Inspiron_15_7577_156_Gaming_Laptop_Computer_-_Black

Another poweful laptop from Lenovo, about the same weight as Dell, and Costco provides great warranty. I totally recommend getting costco membership
https://www.costco.com/Lenovo-LEGION-Y520-Gaming-Laptop---Intel-Core-i7---4GB-NVIDIA-Graphics---1080p.product.100347159.html

This one in particular is my favorite, thin and light profile yet packs a punch. This laptop is from asus.
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07532Y2LL/ref=psdc_13896615011_t2_B076CTR3MW

these are my recommendations. Asus has a great line up of laptops from Zenbook pro to Zenbook deluxe, both offers discrete graphics for a great price.

Hey u/EvilMezzen!

I recommend checking out the Asus ZenBook line. They're super sleak but still packed with performance. While no gaming beast, the cheaper ($900-1300) version with Nvidia MX150, Core i7 (8th gen), 16gb of RAM and SSD will manage most things just fine.

There's also a version with the GTX 1050 Ti, but that runs at closer to $2000 if you want the latest gen i7. Last year's model is around $1500.

I would go with this asus zenbook then it is bigger sized, but in a small chassis and lightweight.

Okay I have scoured the net and I cannot find a better deal that this https://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B07532Y2LL/ref=dp_olp_all_mbc?ie=UTF8&condition=all . I own it, and love it. You can get it for $1200 through amazon warehouse and if the product is defect you ship it back for free and exchange it for a working model. In that case they may even give you a new model. I bought mine used from amazon warehouse and it was just a return, barely used. It weighs 4Lbs, has super thin bezels, and there's nothing on the market that can compete with that price. There are a few options if you want, there are some 13-14" ASUS models with TB3, they don't have an dedicated GPU so playing Fortnite or any games will be a challenge, but at least they have a good processor and if you upgrade to an eGPU through TB3 later on you could have a full gaming rig for the cost of the GPU/Enclosure. For optimal performance you would get another monitor and keyboard but if you had a 1080TI in 4-lane TB3, you would be able to play any game on an ultrabook with i7u 8th gen or i7HQ 6-7th gen. Your other option, and a good one actually is to make a post in r/hardwareswap titled:

>[CAN-(insert 2-digit state code here)][H] Verified Paypal [W] TB3 Ultrabook Laptop i7 7700HQ, GTX 1050TI+ Slim&Light with Class, NVMe SSD
>
>Description:
>
>Budget is $1k with a little flexibility.
>
>TB3 is Mandatory, Other Components are Tentative, So feel free to make offers!
>
>I am looking for like-new condition with minimal wear and minimal powered-on time. I'm ready to hear out any offer! CDI and Pictures would be appreciated when making an offer, but required before making a deal. Thanks!

r/hardwareswap is an awesome place with real people and good deals. You have the protection of PayPal and I guarantee you will get a ton of hits. Just make sure you read the rules and format the title correctly I'm not sure if it is CA, or 3-digit code for Canada so double check that.

If you trust Xotic PC, I spoke to them a couple of days ago and they said they should have received a stock of this laptop sometime this week. I didn't purchase mine from them though. I got mine from Mobile Advance on amazon a few days ago and it arrived this morning. Additionally, it seems asus is selling the product themselves on Amazon (https://www.amazon.com/UX550VE-DB71T-ZenBook-Laptop-Windows-Backlit/dp/B07532Y2LL/ref=sr_1_7?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1506129366&sr=1-7&keywords=ASUS+ZenBook+Pro+UX550VE-DB71T) but its more expensive than buying from other resellers.

Was just about to say this!
I was looking at the same thing! Best laptop for work but also "light" gaming if need be.
My top picks have been

  1. Asus Zenbook Pro UX550VE or UX550VD (has only GTX1050 Graphics card)
  2. XPS 15 9560
  3. Microsoft Surface Book with Performance Base (min £1,799.20 overly expensive for what it is) but hey 3 options!

    Links if interested

I thank you for all your help. I am having trouble discerning the performance differences between the GPUs in the above linked P65 versus the PS63. If the 1050Ti performs seemingly just as well, should other machines such as the Thinkpad X1 Extreme, Razer Blade 15, or Asus Zenbook Pro 15, Gigabyte Aero 15x? Could better performance and durability come from a laptop that from a workstation line such as the Precision line from Dell or the P series of Lenovo's Thinkpads? Would better battery come from such machines? I am sorry for asking so many questions but I want to make the most informed choice and you are very knowledge and helpful. Also, I can forgo the aesthetic of the device so long as it doesn't look overly like a gaming laptop.

i wanted to suggest a dell xps 15 but recently there have been some coil whine issues reported on it so i looked for some other laptops

  1. huawei matebook X pro
    https://www.amazon.com/Huawei-MateBook-Signature-i7-8550U-GeForce/dp/B07CTHN94Z/ref=sr_1_5?s=computers-intl-ship&ie=UTF8&qid=1540917807&sr=1-5&refinements=p_36%3A80000-160000&th=1

its thin, light and display is really good
if you fancy touch screen and can live with slightly less firepower(it has a mx150, which can do proper video editing, but wont be that future proof)

    2.asus zenbook pro 15
    https://www.amazon.com/ZenBook-Ultrabook-NanoEdge-i7-7700HQ-Fingerprint/dp/B07532Y2LL/ref=sr_1_3?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1540918170&sr=1-3&keywords=zenbook%2Bpro&dpID=31sQpHyroML&preST=_SY300_QL70_&dpSrc=srch&th=1

as you wanted-its slim, light, alright display with touchscreen, but the screen is only fhd resolution
it has a bit dated i7 processor but still holds a lot of power for your tasks

    3.lenovo yoga 730
    https://www.amazon.com/Lenovo-Yoga-730-Laptop-Touchscreen/dp/B07FDGR1CM/ref=sr_1_8?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1540918727&sr=1-8&keywords=yoga+730

its 2-in-1, 4k touchscreen, thin, light, a bit low on the processor side (i7 8550u) but I think its adequate for adobe premier, nvidia gtx 1050

if i was in your shoes, i would have gone for the lenovo but its all upto you

Should be doable:

https://www.amazon.com/UX550VE-DB71T-15-6-inch-NanoEdge-Processor-Fingerprint/dp/B07532Y2LL/

Says it ships to me.

Holy shit: This https://www.amazon.com/dp/B075JB3WX8/ ships to me too....Even better value.

u/ilikebrownbananas · 1 pointr/SuggestALaptop

How about this one? I don't have any personal experience with it, but it seems decent.

https://www.amazon.com/UX550VE-DB71T-15-6-inch-NanoEdge-Processor-Fingerprint/dp/B07532Y2LL/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1510103745&sr=8-4&keywords=zenbook+pro&dpID=31sQpHyroML&preST=_SY300_QL70_&dpSrc=srch

There's also the Surface Book 2 15". Not a HQ processor per say, but it's a 8th gen quad core i7, not a dual core like the older U processors

u/Z3r0es · -1 pointsr/UltraBooks

Never buy Macbook,
XPS is decent but a little overpriced for its value.

Try Asus Zenbook Pro UX550VE-DB71T.
