This is long. Skip to the bottom for TL:DR if you are bad at reading or don't want to read something written by a shitty writer.

I ordered this shelf off of amazon and it arrived last week. I was getting pretty desperate for a shelf as what I was using was full and was supplementing one of those vertical wire shelves and they are terrible if you alphabetize because it is a pain to move every. single. disk. one. at. a. time. I was a bit torn on the shelf I did end up going with as reviews were not glowing but I figured at worst I could make some modifications to correct some of the stability concerns the reviews highlighted.

To start this shelf only set me back $53 and claims to hold 860-ish CDs. I have right around 400 right now, if you take into account some double disks and I'm right at about half capacity this seems pretty accurate. So cost to storage ratio is excellent.

This thing is cheap fiber board as you would expect it to be and reviews some reviewers had a tough time assembling and many said that once it was together it was really flimsy and they broke it trying to move it. I assembled the shelf myself with no help and it took (I'm trying to remember here) about and hour and 15 minutes. That isn't too bad I don't think for a one man job, directions are good enough and I was never confused about what I was supposed to do or what part went where. If you take your time, look at the directions, and aren't exceptionally stupid I think you'll be alright. I would recommend a cordless drill, I used one, I can imagine it would take a hell of a lot longer to put this thing together if you used a screwdriver, especially on the back as it uses small screws instead of finishing nails like most of this cheap furniture uses. Just (again) don't be exceedingly stupid with the drill and use caution and go slow enough.

The biggest complaint was the flimsiness of the shelf, you basically assemble a top half and bottom half then they stack with a couple of small wooden pegs and two screws holding them together. This does lead to the shelf being pretty flimsy. One of the top reviews talked about how they bought some brackets to add on to help, I think this would be a great idea, however I did not and do think it is necessary. I was simply careful when I moved it and I'm a big strong man (!) so I didn't have any issues. Some people complained that the shelf tilted when it was loaded. These people are some of the exceedingly stupid. The thing comes with mounting brackets for a reason. Use them, this shelf is probably over 6 foot tall and pretty thin. It's going to fall if it has a load on it. Secure it to the wall like you are supposed to. As you can see in the pictures the wall mounts go on the sides and they are ugly, oh well.

So how does it work? So far, so great. it feels pretty damn sturdy (I use the wall mounts after all) I have doubled my capacity for storage. The only thing I don't like is that the shelves are not adjustable. I thought that I could maybe add a couple more shelves if I mounted them closer together but the shelves are slotted and slid into each other so that isn't really an option. There is quite a bit of wasted vertical room on each shelf if you are only putting CDs on it because this shelf is made for DVDs/Blue Ray/Video Games as well and CDs obviously come in shorter cases. The middle shelf however is CD sized as you can see in the pictures, that is maybe a little odd but I don't mind and if I had my way I would have a shelf where all of the shelves were this dimension. The CDs do hang off the front a bit as can be seen in the angled picture, this doesn't bother me, it may you, however. The shelves are divided into three horizontally with the dividers providing support keeping the shelves from bowing, I really like this. My previous shelf bowed and the CDs tended to tip over if the shelf wasn't full.

Overall I'm very happy with this shelf and would recommend it. I included a couple of pictures of the new shelf and one of my previous solution which has been dropped off at Goodwill.

TL;DR : This is a good value for $53. Don't be stupid when you put it together. Use the wall mounts.

Of course I have a link for you! They are really expensive for some reason right now, I got mine for about $60 each. Get the warehouse deals too if you can!

u/patrickw234 · 3 pointsr/dvdcollection

Of course my man, right here. I got it on sale for $50 one day, but it's normally at $72.99. Still worth it, in my opinion.

u/hoverboarder · 3 pointsr/dvdcollection

Just bought this shelf and really happy with it. Tedious to build, but holds SO MUCH. Great price too.

u/FrictionPin · 3 pointsr/NSCollectors

I recently bought two types to try out. Check out the pictures below for a sample of sizing that I took while trying to organize part of my collection below last month.

Unit on right, fixed shelves, little flimsy so secure it to the wall with the included hardware: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0058O8ES8

Unit on the left has adjustable shelves and is a little better quality, I still secured it to the wall though: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0058O8GRW

I put my larger/CE types on the left one with the adjustable shelves and standard games on the fixed shelves to the right.

They fit dvd's nicely, and take up minimal space. It can be a pain though if you need to file something that starts with a number or early alphabet and you have to take out section after section to rearrange everything else. Still, for the convenience of not building something myself and space I like em.

Also, dat price. Went down another 20 dollars. I paid 65 for it. When I first saw it, it was almost 100.

u/IncognitoKoala · 2 pointsr/cassetteculture

I've been thinking about ordering one of these. If you look at the pictures closely you can see the shelves are narrow and the DVDs/CDs hang off the edge, but it should be just about right for cassettes.

u/HacksawHames · 2 pointsr/dvdcollection

I honestly don’t recommend this shelf, it’s a lot more trouble putting it together than it is. Ex. Some essential parts didn’t even come with it and some parts broke.

As to your second question why I have done new movies on dvd instead of Blu-ray is because when I got it I didn’t have a Blu-ray player then and I’m not in a hurry to upgrade it.

that is the link. they go for about $80 a piece on amazon. I picked up 2 off craigslist for $20. They are great and hold over 600 games a piece. Unfortunately they get top heavy and you have to anchor them to the walls.

u/dreamsindarkness · 2 pointsr/gamecollecting

Something like this? It holds a lot but the shelves are fixed (slotted in) and it does need to be secured to a wall if full.

u/thetanktheory · 2 pointsr/gamecollecting

Amazon. They look great, but I've found that they need some extra bracing screwed into the sides to keep it together. The cam locks that they include break easily.

Got 2 of these shelves Atlantic 35435725 Media Tower Elite Large amazon link

Put one together, moved the Xbox and 360 collection to it. Also put some of my PS1, GC, and PS3 games on there until I build the second unit for all Playstation. Then I can reorganize it all so that Xbox gets it's own unit, PS gets it's own unit, then Nintendo can have the old shelves and Sega can move to where all the Nintendo stuff has been.

After that I can start working on the Magnavox and Atari setups.

They're kind of a bear to set up (1000s of screws...) but they're a ton of storage for the price.

I would not recommend it though. It is incredibly flimsy and you definitely have to secure it to the wall because it is so tall and thin.

u/Goodwill_Gamer · 1 pointr/gamecollecting

Well, how many games are we talking here?
For a smaller collection something like the Atlantic Drawbridge would be good, or if you have a ton the Atlantic Elite can hold an absurd amount of games.

A lot of people also use Michael's Baseball bat display case. It you want the complete ultimate line. you'll need about 4-6 (it all depends on how you display them) it also requires a lot of wall space. it's also not the cheapest sometimes, most people wait until its on sale so you can score two for 60 or wait till its 60% off and its 25ish a piece, another issue is those prices and sales work better if you're shopping directly in store. The benefit is that it holds about 14-16 amiibo (amiibo size varies) and that it has a glass door, so no dust ruins your collection.
if you want something more simple, a book case with raisers work, same with the ikea display case. if you want a book shelf or something, try a Media Tower like this
