We will be staying in our 1 bedroom apartment for the first 7 months of baby's life and then moving abroad. We don't have a lot of room so we are considering a mini crib or playard.

we used minicribs. We bought two Babyletto Origamis used. I think $100 each. We loved them. We lived in a pretty tight apartment and opted for the minis because of their size, but also because they folded when they weren't in use. We had an in-law of some sort with us for a while. So being able to let them sleep in the babies' room was great, but having the ability to stick the cribs somewhere else was also great. Actually we kept one of the cribs in the living room and used that as place to let them both hang out during the day. When they're really tiny, one mini crib will seem HUGE. The one weird thing about minicribs is you have to buy special sheets.

We kept the minis until the boys were 2 and they still had plenty of room. Right before they turned two we moved into a new apartment with a little more space and grandma bought them new/convertible cribs. We probably would have kept them in the mini until we got a traditional toddler bed. Our minis didn't convert into a toddler
bed. what's the length of the toddler bed on your mini convertible?

maybe this would help:

we had a glider/rocker that we kept in the living room, but never used it. that's not to say you won't. you never know what you'll need, or what your babies will like. better to have, than have not.
