Compare this attitude to European Christians in the medieval up to the enlightenment period. Johann Sebastian Bach truly believed that music should be for worshipping God. I recently read a biography of Bach: Bach: Music in the Castle of Heaven. Unfortunately I don't have any knowledge of musical theory, I can only play some open position chords on guitar hehehe :) For someone like you I would recommend you to read this book

Like annadpk said sometime ago, quite a few Indonesian muslim musicians are actually a graduate of Christian/Catholic schools. That's because Christianity in Indonesia follows European-style christianity where music plays a big role.

I wasn't saying that it was a boring book, I meant to say that most books are boring to me (and to me only) and this time I want to find a really good one about topics that I like to show me that I'm wrong. I read a little bit of that book on Amazon and it wasn't what I was looking for but the topic I want is there. Maybe I'll try it again someday.
