Back to the Roots Water Garden,Regular
Bring the garden inside with the Back to the Roots Water Garden. This mini aquaponic tank is a closed-loop ecosystem — the betta fish waste fertilizes the plants on top, and the plants filter and clean the water for your fish — not your average betta fish bowl!Aquaponics is the combination of aquaculture, or fish farming, and hydroponics, or growing plants in nutrient-rich water. The fish excrete ammonia that would become toxic to the fish in a regular fish bowl. In the Water Garden, the ammonia-rich waste is pumped up to the grow bed and absorbed by the plants, helping them grow twice as fast as in traditional farming! The clean water is then filtered back to the tank, creating a low-maintenance, self-cleaning cycle to foster a healthy fish and herb garden. The Water Garden aquaponic kit comes with everything you need to get started including: 3-gallon fish tank, organic wheatgrass and radish sprout seeds, a coupon for your betta fish, fish food, natural fertilizer, a silent, submersible water pump, gravel, and growstones.Learn more about the science inside your fish tank — download the Water Garden curriculum at backtotheroots.com for lessons on the history of aquaponics, how it works, and the benefits of home and commerical aquaponics.Grow One, Give One! I have one of these, this is a hydroponic fish tank and its meant to go in the cups in the tray at the top.

For those wondering which one it is exactly, its this:

I flipped through the 23 pages of "Pet supplies" and selected every fish-related item I saw. Times are in EDT.

This is a complete, but more expensive kit. http://www.amazon.com/Back-Roots-31000-Water-Garden/dp/B00CN52TRM Utterly DIYable.

Just lighting from the window, the only thing that uses power atm is the tiny pump (soon to be a heater), I have no air pump with this bad boy. Back to the Roots AquaFarm v2 (Packaging May Vary) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00CN52TRM/ref=cm_sw_r_awd_T8iTub182N3T7

Just got him from the local pet store a couple days ago, his name's Doc. I think he might have ich, but I'm new to betta keeping and wanted a second opinion. He does kind of dart around and might be trying to scratch himself on the silk leaves but it's hard to tell.

If so, do you guys have any recommendations for treatment? I understand that most medicines are anti-bacterial, but I'm keeping Doc in a small aquaponics system so I'd rather not kill off the bacteria the system relies on. I've got a second tank I could use as a hospital tank, but would I still need to change out all the water in the display tank?

Thanks in advance, I'm new at this and a bit overwhelmed.

3 gallons. It's a really neat starter aquaponics kit, I highly recommend it if you want to get into aquaculture but are on a budget/have no idea what you're doing, lol.

You change it? My idea of changing mine is going to be putting campers instead of tents midyear. And changing the animals every month. That's change. Right?

I so want to get something like this for the classroom. Gotta see if any of my kids will murder fish first.
