Hmm, I've heard mixed reviews. There's another duology with the same concept by Jacqueline Carey called The Sundering. The first book is called Banewreaker and it's excellent.


George R.R. Martin actually recommended it on his not-a-blog under 'what I'm reading.'

Jacqueline Carey's Kushiel and The Sundering series are both very good.

Banewreaker is supposed to have a more objective view of fantasy tropes (I haven't read it, but some reviews at Amazon seem think so).

If you like webcomics at all, Goblins is very worth a read. The protagonists are mostly Goblins that know they are the mooks in a fantasy game world.
