The Dig (Jacobin podcast) had historian Alejandro Velasco on just last week. He's a historian at NYU (also did an AMA on askhistorians) who has studied the urban popular politics of the country (also recommend the book) from the bottom up. He's as 'neutral' as they get because he's an academic, not a partisan, but he comes at it from the angle that most mainstream news usually completely dismisses - the lived experiences and politics of the poor, based on ethnographic research.
