From what I can tell, the MIDI controllers are plugged into the PC through the use a USB cable, more specifically, the ones with one end being square and the other is a normal USB cable, like this one. I think your best bet would be to look on the official Ableton Live website for info.

Printer USB cables are unique. They aren't just regular USB cables. So in the same way that you can't use the micro USB cord from your phone for your 3DS, you can't use it for your printer.
