[These a/c units have become quite popular since many {most?} condominiums don't allow the instillation of a/c units, including through the window models.] (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01DLPUWL2/ref=s9_acsd_top_hd_bw_b50Ws_c_x_1_w?pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_s=merchandised-search-2&pf_rd_r=J8E1F9Q0370728JMYYH4&pf_rd_t=101&pf_rd_p=0da6807f-9d15-412e-8aba-757c20b627e8&pf_rd_i=1193678)

Even if you only the a/c in the bedroom while sleeping it will allow your body to recuperate.

They have the advantage of removing water vapor from the air. Cooler & dryer.

But yeah, keep with the blockouts and any other adjustments ie no indoor cooking (if you have any outdoor space, a hot plate outside for cooking usually doesn't break any rules), drink lots of water, that you would normally use. Every bit helps.

Hope you have a strategy for staying alive in the peak of Korean summer. I've been exactly in your situation in the dorms at Osan, friend. Learn from my mistakes and skip the two box fans in your sliding window, damp bedsheets, and the dozen cold showers per day. Just get this and live comfortably.

You could always get a floor AC unit with an exhaust duct - something like this. https://www.amazon.com/BLACK-DECKER-BPACT08WT-Portable-Conditioner/dp/B01DLPUWL2

The other option would be to build a platform for the window A/C to sit on with some wood, then close the window on top. You'll probably need to jam the window shut with a board or something to keep the A/C from falling forward.

I've done it and survived. It gets to a point where the ceiling fans are only good for moving hot air around. Plan on shutting windows and using black-out curtains during to day to help keep heat out, then using box fans or something to bring in cool air at night. As mentioned, shading helps tremendously, and being in a lower floor unit.

You can always try a portable A/C unit.

A window-unit in the back won't help a room in the front, they only work for the room they're in (and barely).

You can get a free-standing/floor unit cooler and, imho, they a bit nicer but still need venting to the outside. This would likely be fine. (https://www.amazon.com/BLACK-DECKER-BPACT08WT-Portable-Conditioner/dp/B01DLPUWL2/) <- notice the tube running to the window.

FWIW when I had my baby in NYC our neighbor didn't have an A/C and we had south-facing windows so it got hot as hell in our building. They just figured people have been doing it for hundreds of years so why not them?

I found a portable air conditioner on amazon that would do what you need it to but here’s the thing, 1. You will need to vent the hot air out. You can get the flexible duct and snake it out the door and put a blanket over the rest of the door as a quick fix. 2. You will need to catch the condensate. You can hook up a tube (one will probably be provided in the package) and drain it into a bucket that you empty daily.

Wait, so we're saying these deaths were all old people incapable of paying attention to their livelihood?

Coming from someone that grew up in the swampy, and also winter desolate, midwest, get your shit together France. We're using this news to push climate change action, which is good. But I have to believe there were other reasons than, "old people are incapable of taking care of themselves cuz they old, yo."

https://www.google.ca/amp/s/www.newscientist.com/article/dn4259-the-2003-european-heatwave-caused-35000-deaths/amp/

This article mentions Temps rising to over 100°F. I was literally out exercising in 100°F heat and with humidity it was a real feel of 110-115. I guess I just dont get it because I'm not old and in that situation I suppose.

Like, "Uh oh, Ben. It's that heat wave coming. Better hunker down in our insulated home and let the lord take us."

I also spent long summers of that same humid ass heat living in a brick house with no AC.
