I'm also in the market for a good/cheap cardboard replacement. As I understand there are two versions of cardboard. V2 is apparently much better because it has a 35mm lens instead of a 25mm present on the V1. I'm inclined to think this Viewmaster is V1.

I've been eyeing this one which is cheap + V2 + supposedly can fit our N6.

If you are going with google cardboard, I recommend the Blisstime v2:

It comes with foam pads for comfort, elastic straps for above and around the head, a quality wide rubber band to provide friction to keep the phone in place, and quality lenses.

Ideally you'd of course like to get one of the free v2 viewers when people are handing them out.

I picked this one up for $18. I specifically wanted one with a headband, and it doesn't disappoint.

So, this

And this?

Also, damn. Veiwmaster has changed since I remember it as a kid.

Well any of them with the magnet on the side is V1. I'd look for something that has V2 in the title, they have a button on the top. And bigger lenses. The smaller lenses give a bit of a tunnel vision effect in my opinion. The bigger lenses are much more manageable. http://www.amazon.com/Blisstime-Cardboard-Glasses-Headband-3--6inch/dp/B010DFBSWK/ref=sr_1_2?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1454196178&sr=1-2&keywords=cardboard+vr+v2

Also, that strap that keeps coming up is pretty good if you want one

I used it with my Powis and it holds everything up fine. With bigger lenses the main difference between the Cardboard (IMO) and the GearVR seems to just be the super fast latency.

So overall, the VR options for iPhone are pretty limited, mostly because there aren't a lot of VR apps for iOS. There definitely are SOME, just not nearly as many as for Android.

The headset itself doesn't matter as much (pretty much any VR headset will work with both iOS and Android phones, only the GearVR and Daydream are platform-specific, so avoid those). People seem to like the BoboVR Z4 the most, but it's one of the more expensive options (I think like $40?).

Whatever you get, make sure that it has some sort of capacitive touch button. This would be any Cardboard that is "v2". If it has the magnet switch, don't get it... the magnet switches are terrible and have been phased out of most apps. Something like this would work fine.
