Make sure you have a very solid understanding of algebra, that is the preparation you need. Every other concept you need will be taught and mostly straight forward to apply if you aren't struggling with the algebra. I've recommended that book to a few students struggling with calculus. After that, go to your professor or TA's office hours ANY time you struggle with homework. Most students will do very well this way. Your TA will often also be your grader, getting to know them helps.
