These four trees where styled by Mack Boshoff, who has originated and written a book about strangler figs as bonsai style link

The top left tree shows a tree that has recently been killed by its strangler, what Mack calls the “Victor Phase”.

The other three,styled during the workshop, represent the phase afterthis, once the host trunk has rotted away leaving a root lattice trunk. Mack assembled them in three different ways - top right is an exposed root with long cuttings woven to the roots. Bottom left is a set of trees braided around a wooden mandrel and fastened with saddle clips. The bottom right is a long-rooted tree prepared as for a root over rock and braided around a wooden mandrel. The wood of these last two will be left to rot out, leaving the lattice of fused roots or stems
