> Nu metal is often controversial amongst fans of other metal genres, and the genres detractors have labeled nu metal derogatory terms such as "mallcore" ~Tommy Udo, 2002. "Brave Nu World", p16.

Also using that particular Urban Dictionary article is kind of moot, since there's no particular source that verifies that fact. I would say that that's kind of like using a Wikipedia article, but even though I used the Wikpedia article on Nu metal to discover this quote (since there is no article for "mallcore", nor does the word "mallcore" even appear in the "History" section of the article.. only when you scroll all the way down to the "Criticism" section), at least the quote was cited by someone who's more notable than "someone who likes metal" (or to be more precise: "their particular slice(s) of metal"). If I was to search my name on Urban Dictionary, do those definitions equal what I am? I'm going to have to go with "no" on that front. The moment UD becomes officially integrated with OED, let me know.

As far as I'm concerned: if it's got downtuned distorted guitars, then it's metal at its very minimum. Call it "watered down" if you must, but to translate it across to another metaphor: Not all chilli peppers are Ghost Peppers; Bell Peppers have no heat to them, but is still part of the same "family".

And this is coming from someone who doesn't particularly like Linkin Park himself; If you ask me, Meteora was their last good album; Minutes to Midnight was pretty underwhelming, and I've not even bothered with A Thousand Suns or Living Things or whatever they've been bringing out.
