Absolutely - there was a reddit thread a while back on how useless printers are, and someone told of how they really did their research and their Brother Duplex B&W Laser Printer went through 14,000 pages before needing its drum replaced. The wireless version appears to be exactly the same thing, and costs an extra $40 or so.

Bought the printer, some 3rd party ink refil bottles and a piece of plastic that makes the printer think they're official Brother ink cartridges for a total of $115 and now I'm set for another 5,200 pages until the ink runs out, and then all I need to do is buy more ink for $20.

Hope this helps someone!

It's an earlier version of this:

I couldn't find any on NewEgg that had good deals/rebates right now, but even at $68.00, it will financially be more viable than a $50 inkjet in about a month to six weeks.

Get a Brother 2240 (or the variants of that model). Highest rated, best selling laser printer under $100-120 in almost all websites. You can get it for $70 right now at Amazon. Toners are rated at about 3,000 pages. Non OEM toners cost $15 in Ebay or 2x$25.

I bought mine in 2008 (basically the same model) for $80, best investment of my college career.

Keep in mind all printer companies are a little evil and Brother is no exception, check this video for a little trick if you actually buy the printer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hPCGZZIdXyM

If I were to do it again, I'd buy a cheap brother laser printer like this one for $85.

The reason is it's a small hassle to print stuff at school. Every minute counts in the morning and most students print at school, so it can be a struggle finding an open computer before morning classes. So you sit there and wait....5 people are looking at facebook...3 minutes left until class starts. Eventually one will open up but I would rather pay $100 to buy a printer than deal with that for 4 years.

If you never print the day of, it's probably not worth it. Campus prints are very cheap.

I have a brother hl-2240
If all you want need to do is print text and you don't care about color printing, cheap printers like this are what you want. The toner cartridges last forever, and they're cheap.
