Somebody please correct me if I'm wrong, but I THINK you only need one of those fancy 'active' DVI/Display port adapters if you're wanting to run a higher resolution and/or a higher refresh rate. So 1080p 60hz would be fine with just a normal one.

My second monitor is only 1080p 60hz and only has DVI, so I ordered this to use https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004C9M7UG/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 as I wasn't sure if it came with one and I wanted to be sure I had one.

There are 5 different DVI connectors.

The rx460 uses DVI-D

So to connect to rhe monitor you want youll need an adaptor

Well, I just looked at your monitors. Seems like they only have DVI (pretty good) and VGA (awful) connections. You'll be fine with one, and I'd honestly think SLI would be fine too, but I haven't seen any benchmarks to confirm that.

Do either your monitors support displayport?

Cleanest solution would be to use one displayport cable for a monitor, the DVI port for the second and HDMI can remain reserved for the TV.

Be careful with HDMI-Displayport adapters, they're more of a hassle than anything.

Edit: I believe this cable should let you connect up your monitor to displayport, freeing the HDMI to be dedicated for the TV.

Having issues hooking up my second monitor that only has DVI (single link).

Originally had 2 DVI connections to my old gpu, I've upgraded since and only have displayport/hdmi ports on my new GPU.

I've bought this Displayport to DVI cable, but nothing is showing.

I've tried every Displayport on my GPU.

GPU has latest drivers and I've enabled max performance via Nvidia settings.

Any ideas why it's not detecting?

I've read that 120hz only works with HDMI 1.4, and the description of the item doesn't say anything about that. Could I use this http://www.amazon.com/Cable-Matters-Premium-DisplayPort-Black/dp/B004C9M7UG/ref=pd_sim_e_8 instead? Connect the DVI Dual link to my GPU and the DisplayPort to the monitor. Would that do the trick?

Oh sorry about that I overlooked it.

VGA isn't capable of 144hz, HDMI I think has to be 2.0 to support 144hz, check if your monitor's HDMI port is 2.0.

Displayport to DVI cables exist too. You can probably find something cheaper I just clicked the first link that popped up on google.

Thanks. Drivers are up to date, that's the big one I wanted to check for.

I noticed that the MSI Gaming Edition Geforce 980 ti GPU monitor outputs include 3 DisplayPort, 1 HDMI, and 1 DVI. Are both your monitors connected using DisplayPort? It's a shot in the dark but I'd try using a different monitor port on your GPU for the monitor that's having an issue.

Another thing, what is the model of your monitors, and are both your monitors the same model? And what kind of cable are you using to connect your monitors to the GPU?

It sounds like a weird question, but I've run into cases in the past where using a DP to DVI adapter dongle works on some monitors but not others, only for the monitor to work fine when replacing the dongle with a one piece DP to DVI cable such as this one: https://www.amazon.ca/Cable-Matters-Gold-Plated-DisplayPort/dp/B004C9M7UG/

Edit: Something else that came to mind, check the monitor resolution and display settings. I won't know until you tell me the monitor models but most monitors support 1920x1080 resolution and 60hz refresh rate. Blank monitors and flickering might indicate that the resolution and refresh rate is set to something that the monitors can't support.

Searching it on Amazon turns up this cable.

Displayport to DVI cables are not bidirectional, meaning they will only work with a displayport out on a video card and a dvi in on a monitor, not with a video card DVI out and monitor displayport in, but the configuration you'd be using is the one that works with this cable so no issue there.

What resolution and frame rate is the monitor? 2k is offically 2048x1080 and basically the same as 1080p, and single link dvi can easily drive it. If its more than that you need a displayport to dual link dvi adapter.

Using a splitter will just duplicate across monitors, as it splits a single image stream. You can only have a single monitor per port (DisplayPort being an exception) on your graphics card. To use the rest of the ports on card, you'll have to get adapters such as this one to connect the monitors' DVI inputs to whichever ports your graphics card has.
