I believe the X32 will show up as an audio interface when plugged into a computer. The S8 has USB C and will support some external DACs. It might not work, but you could try plugging the s8 right into the x32 using a USB C to USB B cable. Route Main LR to the first two outputs on the card and maybe try flipping the clock down to 44.1k to match the phone if it doesn't work. Kind of a hack, but it would be really cool if it worked!

USB Type C is just a connector. To be very specific: your MacBook does have USB 3.1 ports, with a Type C connector. These ports (like all USB 3.1) are also backwards compatible with USB 2.0 devices. Type C is simply the new standard connector.

You can even get a cable to connect your interface (I'm guessing it uses a USB Type B connector).

AT2020 is a fine mic to get, has the HF extension as with all condensers, just know that it requires +48v.

Technically you can buy any interface and buy a USB C to USB B cable since many interfaces use USB B as the connection type. The two common types recommended are the Steinberg UR22 and the Focusrite Scarlett 2i2. I personally have the UR22 as it was the first one to do 192kHz sampling and then Focusrite upgraded theirs to do 192kHz also so both are equal playing.

I have a galaxy s8 and its always worked fantastic. The Samsung has the ability to send USB audio to your dac without any additional apps, whether it be YouTube, tidal, spotify, saved mp3's etc.

Hi all – 

I just got a Tascam US-1800 (current model is 16x08, US-1800 is discontinued) - hoping to use it to record my drums into my 2016 MacBook Pro. The Tascam is meant to connect via USB B (like a printer) to USB A 2.0, but my Mac only has USB C. Also, the drivers for the US-1800 are only tested with older versions of Mac OS.

All that to say: I'm having trouble getting it to connect to my Mac, and I'm wondering if anyone has ideas as to what might be the issue. I've tried with adding an adapter to the cable that came with the interface, plus trying a whole new cable, and neither of those have worked. I've installed the latest version of Tascam's driver, but still no luck.

Any thoughts on what could be happen, and/or if this connection is even possible?

It should work just fine. I can't see any reason why it wouldn't.

I haven't tried with a midi specifically, but the same cable works with printers and other usb b devices.

So, you mostly got the answer you were looking for but I will take it a step further. I have one of these cords and it works perfectly. Plugs right into the back of my Midi controller (Push 2, and some keyboards) and into my Macbook 2018 without any adapter.

I bring this cord with me everywhere since it helps eliminate the need for an adapter. This is assuming you are using a USB controller.

I’ve used a USB switch. Not all of them are made equal. At work I have one that has dedicated mouse/keyboard USB ports so you can switch from the keyboard itself. Doesn’t work well with my keyboard or mouse. So I can’t use the keyboard switching, or the keyboard/mouse ports. It’s also a little slower than I’d like.

I’m needing something similar at home, so I’m taking a different approach. Instead, I want a powered hub to be what gets switched, and use a simpler 1-port USB switch. Something like this: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B074TZKGVR

You can find these in USB 3.0 (5Gbps) versions, which are more future proof. My suggestion is that I’d want a simple 1-port USB switch like this, and pay the extra for a 3.0 version. For now, you only need the one port, but you can add a hub down the road and if it’s a decent one, get usable performance out of it. It won’t be great for SSDs (my hubs tend to throttle write speeds), but SD Card readers and optical drives would be fine.
