So that's just the hardware from the inside of a dock?

Was there anything on there that looked special or did it look like you could use off the shelf parts to get the same functionality? I'm asking because I'm just curious if something like this would work without the markup for "Nintendo Switch compatible" marketing.

I bought this one from Amazon Have used it twice, briefly, so I know it works however I don't remember if there is a framerate mentioned in the specs.

Miracast dongles work without needing an Internet connection (It's annoying that Chromecast requires an Internet connection). But I think you have to root the device and modify the build.prop to enable Miracast support on the 6p.

Well, sort of. It's not a direct cable, I assume the big box is required to convert the signal (which is probably what the MS display dock does).

   Number 2 loses signal when the screen rotates on the phone (it needs to be unplugged, replugged), so I recommend Number 1. I am not really sure what the difference between the two technically thought. Type-C is a mystery.

I expect you'll be fine to power the dock from a DC source although you may have longer charge times. I would think you could even connect the dock to a battery bank over a standard usb-a to usb-c cable.

The dock will definitely draw some power given that it has 3 usb ports for LAN adapters and controller charging, but bear in mind the switch does not have to power it's screen while docked, which is a lot of power saved. Any reduction in power supply will slow the charge rate. I'm not certain the dock has hardware for video out. It's possible it's just a splitter and the Switch itself handles the video output. If that's the case, we'll hopefully be able to output to a tv while on the go with a small third party usb-c to hdmi adaptor.

It's too bad we don't have the specifics on the AC charger yet. We'll just have to wait for it to release. I was glad to find the details on that dc charger though. That gives a rough idea of the device's needs.

It is supposed to be Thunderbolt3 & 4k capable, I am only trying to use it on a 1080p projector at the office. I do have a microsoft wireless display adapter as a backup though.

For the fuzziness:

I turn off the laptop screen when docked, so only the two monitors are up with one as the primary. I did a lot of futzing with settings and it seems better now, but it has to do with scaling. I turn it off and it goes away, but the almost-4k on that 13.5" screen is impossible to read. I have that screen at 150%, but disabled adn the other two screens at 100% scaling and that reduce blurriness thing turned on, gone through cleartype several times. Even turning it off doesn't seem to have much affect.

It's odd though, the general windows all look great, but say I go to Network Connections in the Control Panel, it looks perfect, right click on Wifi and select properties, that is blurry.

Yep. That's the bugger. The HDMI, and supposedly VGA as well, doesn't work with the Linux kernel (even 4.9+). The ethernet and usb ports work, and video supposedly works with windows. Also, reports on the Arch wiki and across the web say that some third-party HDMI/displayport adapters work. I just ordered one made by "Cable Matters" based on a report that another adapter by the same manufacture works so I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

I had the same issue with the 9360 in that I didn't know which one to buy. I ended up getting a really cheap one (€20) and it worked well. However, I'm having issues with the sound not working through the dongle.

Was there any solution found to this? I'd really to get a b350 strix but that lack of a video output is REDICULOUS - I was thinking a usb type c to hdmi adapter but figured there might be some sort of bandwidth issues @ 5/10gbps so unless AMD can get Thunderbolt certification on board the itx pcie slot would need to be wasted on a Thunderbolt 3 add in card - can anyone comment?

I mean does this even matter for 1080p??? What kind of issues could be expected - I imagine we lose freesync for one thing... But I'm already having issues with my freesync monitor running over the Gigabyte b350 gaming wifi - its freesync over hdmi at 1080p 75hz and the screen doesnt recognize the signal when booting into bios - I have to plug it into to the tv to setup the bios. Ryzen master actually works really well now fortunately but whatever that bug is drives me NUTS.

I have a 9350 and the same 4K monitor. I picked up one of these USB-C to HDMI adapters and it worked without any issues. I'm running Fedora 24 with 4.7 kernel.

Docks are for ease of use. USB C to HDMI adapters exist.

One of these and a HDMI to DVI cable, or if you can find one, a USB-C to DVI-D dongle.

I'm only making an educated guess, but the problem is most likely caused by the DisplayPort -> DVI conversion. If you can skip that then things should work smoothly.

How about $19 bucks? Too much? How about just under $10 bucks? Again, you can throw on the USB hub as well, you want prices for them? Also found this one with an RJ45 port.
