monoprice.com for ALL your cable needs.

Car charger.

A good 12v usb charger (2.4 amp or 4.2 amp).

USB AA charger.

Spare AAs and flashlight in your glovebox.

I would learn how to use your smart phone with voice controls. And see if you have a way to hook your phone into your car radio.

Audiobooks.

I use the this in the car - it'll run in green mode (whatever voltage that is), but won't shift out of it without unplugging. this is its higher amperage cousin.

Really nice retention in the 12v socket.

u/karn_evil · 3 pointsr/flashlight

Yes, it can be removed and used in hand if you want to. I have the flashlight version of that light and It has held up well over the past year.

I don't think I've seen a 12v charger, but there probably is something out there. You could always get the eneloop charger with a usb cable pack and pick up one of those 12v to USB adapters.

Here's the one I have. I power my in-dash tablet and plug my phone into the other port. I've taken long road trips with navigation running the whole time without any issues.

Cable: CHOETECH 1.6ft (0.5m) USB-A to USB-C - I have the 1 meter cable as well, but realized I didn't need that much slack.

Charger: PowerGen 4.2Amps / 20W Dual USB Car charger I've had this for a while now - close to 3 years. (I seem to have an older version as my order history says 3.6Amps / 18W.) I bought it when I had my Google Play Edition Galaxy S4 and a company iPhone 4s. It shows as Charging when plugged in - not rapidly but not slowly either. I use DashClock still and it shows as "Charging (AC)" instead of USB, and it keeps up with running Google Music and Play music at the same time on long trips. I don't have the brightness jacked up, about half way, and it will charge will driving long distances.

Case:Spigen Thin Fit Nexus 5x Case I've liked Spigen and I wanted a thin case. I don't have the biggest hands in the world (reason I didn't get a 6p) so I didn't want a case that added a lot of bulk.

Screen Protector: ANSOTT LG Nexus 5X Tempered Glass Screen Protector I rolled the dice as there are a bunch out there and so far it has been fine. I see 2 chips in the protector from what I assume are drops I caused.

Car Mount: Ipow Long Arm Universal Windshield Dashboard Cell Phone Holder This is to replace this mount which I had for about 2 years. The design of this older one used some springs and plastic grooves that the 2 arms slid on and it eventually wore and cracked. The only problem with the new one is that due to the power and volume buttons on side, it has to be mounted in one spot to not hit any of the buttons. The grip is strong and the arm is nice as it's closer to me than the old one - I don't have to reach as far. This plus the new Android Auto update should make trips nicer.

I use PowerGen's 4.2A/20W Dual USB charger. One of the ports is intended exclusively for Apple devices, but it's $10, and the Android-compatible port charges very efficiently. Even with Maps Navigation and Play Music going simultaneously, my battery still inches ahead; it charges even better with Navigation off, and if my phone is completely inactive, it's just amazing how quickly it replenishes.

Does your car already have Bluetooth, though? If not, you might want to consider getting a Bluetooth car kit. That usually comes with a charger, and of course lets you do hands-free calls and easier music control.

I've got one of these and it has been reliable for me for a year.

Store you can by one for a fraction of the price at monoprice, but I've done that and your get what your pay for sometimes with them. I'd rather have a more reliable charger than throw multiple away.

u/TehGogglesDoNothing · 1 pointr/electronic_cigarette

You can get 2 amp chargers for your car. If I use my phone for navigation, a 1 amp charger is a sad joke. I use this charger now.

u/roadmiler · 1 pointr/uberdrivers

This charger works great for charging 2 phones. Both stay at 100% when plugged in. http://www.amazon.com/PowerGen-4-2Amps-charger-Designed-Android/dp/B0088U4YAG

A phone power cable is not a charger. The phone itself has the charger/voltage regulation built into the battery or phone. The phone power supply just provides the charger with whatever wattage it needs.

You can go to amazon and but a 2 or 3 amp charger and it will work with any phone, ipod, ipad and so on. You can also use your laptop or other portable power source to charge similar devices. The output wattage of the power supply should not matter IF the charger is functioning correctly and has overcharge protection, which any decent charger will have. Often the overcharge protection can be built directly into the battery.

So either the overcharge failed or the battery failed in some other way and blew up or he had a generic charger with not overcharge protection instead of a brand name charger. It has nothing to do with the power supply he used. You can use a bluecig power supply with an ecig charger or any power supply with a USB port that outputs the required wattage to charge it. People in this thread are confusing the power supply with the charger. The thing that plugs into the wall is not the charger.
