I use a Soxhlet extractor with Everclear (95% ethanol) as the solvent. Then I add water, and distill off the ethanol to reuse. From 25g of ground dry jalapenos, I end up with 250ml of flavored water. For a less potent batch, you can make due with juice from a jar of sliced jalapenos, which is how I used to make them.

  • Mix 4oz of the jalapeno water with 4oz of lime juice in a small bowl.
  • Add 4tbsp of powdered gelatin and allow it to hydrate/bloom. (It should become like apple sauce.)
  • Meanwhile, warm 4oz of honey in a sauce pan on a low/med flame.
  • Carefully add the gelatin to the honey, and stir until any chunks melt.
  • Pour the result into silicone gummy molds and leave out to cool for about an hour.
  • Stack and refrigerate molds for at least an hour. Overnight is fine, and will make them firmer and easier to remove.

I use two sets of these for a recipe, and almost fill them. I've been playing with different ways to get them into the molds. A polyethylene squeeze bottle for candy making works well but gets hot, so I suggest using gloves. I've recently started using a Polypropylene syringe which seems a bit easier.

The honey takes the edge off for a while and then, as the sugar fades, the spice kicks in. They are a great way to clear the sinuses. The gelatin doesn't hold up really well if they get warm, so I keep them in the fridge. Between the cold and the honey, they keep for a good long time.

I haven't tried gummies before. I'm actually waiting on a delivery from UPS today for gummy bear molds from Amazon. I got these from Amazon.

Planning something a little different than just using canna oil though...

My plan is to make shroom tea (I make a lot of mushroom edibles too), and use that for the 'water' part of the gummy recipe, and medicated coconut oil for the THC. The goal is to work out a nice balance of THC and psilocybin for nice euphoric "recreational" gummy bears.

I'll be trying them next week when I get a chance to sit down and make everything. If it works out, maybe I'll post the recipe here on /r/treedibles if it'd be welcome. The rules don't necessarily mention anything about cooking with other psychoactive drugs.
