Check slickdeals.net, that is how I got mine.

Right now, if you buy the T2i from amazon with the 55-250mm IS, you get $200 off instantly (so the lens is almost free). Plus, if you buy a Pixma Pro9000 mkII with the camera, you can get a $400 AMEX card by mail. I did this and just sold the printer on CL for $250. I did a slightly different deal through newegg, but when it was all said and done, I ended up paying $420 for a T2i.

I hear good things about society6 and Redbubble, but beyond those two, I know most of the custom printing sites give a very small percentage.

And a good printer is not that expensive unless you want to print huge posters or print in t-shirts.

Hi, artist here. I have the Canon Pixma 9000 (link using my affiliation) and I've been very happy with it. It's my first serious printer and a lot different from other cheaper photo printers I've used. I got it along with a 60d back in February it came with a rebate of 400 dollars, essentially getting the printer for free. (So you can get this printer extremely cheap for less than 200 from people getting the rebate then selling the printer) That rebate has been continued so it's still available. I wanted a nice printer because I wanted to sell prints of my drawings. Very easy to set up. The colors are natural and consistant. I often print things with large areas of solid colors and was worried about streaking, but haven't seen anything. It's an inkjet with 10 color catridges. I haven't had to replace them yet, but reviews don't seem to complain. It does print up to 11x17.

You'll have to go through several types of paper. I was surprised at the differences between brands and types. So far my favorite has been Canon Pro Platinum (glossy). Least favorite was cheap Kodak Matte. There's still a few more that I'd like to try out.

you know a cool thing I found, is that when you buy a high end printer with camera you get a big rebate. But here is the thing. A lot of folks are getting a printer just to get a rebate and selling it back on amazon (without upc code) for 1/2 price so I just got a $500 printer for $179

I bought this about a year and a half ago:

I know it's a little over budget but I've seen it at local brick & mortar stores with generous mail-in rebates. Maybe with some savvy shopping you can get it under $400.

I went with this because it had excellent reviews, it can print on some huge sizes (and custom sizes), it's printed on almost every weight of paper I can throw at it (I buy a lot of different weights/types from French Paper), and compared to other brand equivalents (especially Epson) ink refills are a little cheaper.

As far as laser vs. ink jet, I believe the only real downside to an ink jet is is the cost/hassle of new ink and it prints slower, plus lasers seem much more expensive and if you are looking at a competitive price point you will be sacrificing features. Otherwise the flexibility and value of this printer has been amazing. Also, I'd avoid any Kodak printers at the moment, as the company is going through some hard times.
