I recently picked up the Canon PowerShot SX420...has 42x optical zoom which allows for the neat close-up. I'm in no way a real photographer, just take pics for fun and of my family.

Functional and higher quality than a cell phone is basically the only requirements we have so far.
These are the two cameras I've got written in as options so far Canon Power Shot ELPH and Canon PowerShot SX420 but it doesn't look like the second one has interchangeable lenses. It would be a luxury anyway I would think. But if you have any in mind that at the very least have the option of getting newer lenses I am all ears.
