Sure, this is a left leaning guy Mandel, The Legalization of Politics. Essential reading on the Charter.

I disagree with your assessment, but I don’t care about that. I raised this example because back then people who share your view were screaming about the sky is falling and tyranny and everything else. Turns out, Canadians didn’t agree. I feel this will happen again. This won’t be an election issue for Ford next time around. The sky isn’t falling, in other words.
